Shoreside Logistics is pleased to announce its designation as a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ). An FTZ is a secured site considered outside U.S. Customs territory where foreign cargo can be stored while delaying, reducing or eliminating import duties. By using Shoreside as their FTZ, businesses only pay duties once the cargo leaves the foreign trade zone, in the case of imported raw materials, once the final product enters U.S. commerce. The goal of the FTZ program is to stimulate economic growth through foreign commerce within the U.S., and Shoreside believes the timing of its new designation will be an asset to customers.
“We’re pleased to provide our customers with the many cost-saving benefits that operating under an FTZ offers,” said Shoreside Logistics President Tim Nelson. “From import duty reduction, deferral, and even elimination—an FTZ designation helps us improve cash flow for our customers, which is especially helpful during this time of economic uncertainty.”
Shoreside Logistics operates 100,000sqft of warehouse space about five miles from JAXPORT. The company’s administration building, truck maintenance shop, driver facilities and truck parking are located on 14 acres just a couple of miles away from the warehouse. Shoreside has been part of the Jacksonville supply chain since 2002 and its services include drayage, warehousing, consolidation, intermodal transportation, Customs brokerage as well as managing the Customs Examination Station contract for the local U.S. Customs Border Patrol. Becoming an FTZ site is a natural fit and a benefit to the Jacksonville community as a whole.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shoreside to JAXPORT’s FTZ,” said JAXPORT Foreign Trade Zone Manager Deborah Lofberg. “The continued growth and success of our FTZ program, including the addition of businesses like Shoreside, helps bring more cargo, jobs and economic opportunity to our community.”
Using Shoreside as an FTZ also allows importers to file weekly Customs entries instead of each time a shipment enters the country, another significant cost-savings for businesses importing numerous shipments each week.

JAXPORT partner North Florida Warehouse FTZ, a division of JZ Expedited Companies, today celebrated the grand opening of Foreign Trade Zone No. 64’s first outdoor storage facility.
The 3.7-acre facility is located minutes from JAXPORT’s North Jacksonville terminals and offers flexible short- and long-term outdoor storage options for a variety of cargo including vehicles, high and heavy, tracked units, project and over-dimensional cargo, containers, breakbulk and more.
The federal FTZ program helps importers efficiently manage cash flow and save a significant amount of money through streamlined U.S. Customs clearance and other efficiencies.
“There is a great need for outdoor FTZ storage and we want to be the market leader in this region,” said Robert Fox, CEO of JZ Expedited Companies.
“There are no limitations with this facility,” said Lisa Diaz, JAXPORT Manager, FTZ and Logistics Services. “It is equipped to handle all types of cargo providing importers a tremendous advantage when shipping through JAXPORT.”
North Florida Warehouse FTZ says the facility offers customers 24/7 access to their cargo utilizing the latest security technology. The facility is adjacent to the company’s 32,000 square-foot North Jacksonville warehouse, which also operates within FTZ No. 64.

“Options are the name of the game,” said Lisa Diaz, JAXPORT Manager, FTZ No. 64 and Northeast Florida Sales. “The ability to offer FTZ outdoor storage to our importers for the first time is a great selling point.”
“We pride ourselves on providing what our customers need most and this outdoor FTZ facility fits the bill,” said Robert Fox, CEO of JZ Expedited Companies.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 10, 2017) – Hans-Mill Corporation, one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of metal and plastic household products, will soon open a state-of-the-art manufacturing center near JAXPORT’s North Jacksonville marine terminals. The 121,000-square-foot facility will be used for manufacturing, assembling and distributing stainless steel trash cans and plastic household products sold at major retailers around the world.
Hans-Mill will use JAXPORT to import materials used in its manufacturing process from Asia, as well as for the import of finished goods for U.S. distribution. In addition, the company has been granted permission to operate within JAXPORT’s Foreign Trade Zone No. 64. The facility, which already serves as the company’s headquarters, represents an $11 million investment in Northeast Florida and creates 23 new, direct jobs.
“The efficiencies Northeast Florida provides have allowed us to bring some of the manufacturing that is traditionally done overseas back to the United States,” said Kenneth Ubillus, Hans-Mill Director of Operations. “We felt welcome in Jacksonville from the very beginning and look forward to being a visible part of this community.”
“Hans-Mill’s decision to invest here highlights the many advantages we offer the industry,” said Eric Green, JAXPORT interim CEO. “Excellent ocean service options from Asia, cost-effective transportation, 60 million plus consumers nearby and a business-friendly environment, all continue to attract manufacturing here.”
Hans-Mill joins other household names, including Michaels Stores, Inc., Coach, Inc. and Bacardi Limited, in taking advantage of FTZ No. 64’s cost savings and streamlined Customs processes.

Nikon Z7 with Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E with FTZ adapter. Taken hand held at 1/500sec, f/5.6 at 500mm Focal length.
Using the AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E lens on the Z7 with the FTZ adapter is a real joy. The image pops in the EVF, and the 47MP resolution of the Z7 sensor shows amazing details with this sharp low priced lens. I have the impression that this lens focuses on the Z7 with FTZ adapter just as well as my D500 in the AF-S mode. I did not test the AF-C nor tracking mode yet and cannot say whether the D500 still retains an edge in this area.
If there is a substantial edge in tracking birds in flight with a D500 vs a Z7, I will keep my D500 otherwise it will go for sale as the x1.5 crop factor on this 20MP camera is overmatched by the Z7 46MP sensor where I can always crop in post and retain more resolution. Also for bird in flight the EM1 MkII with the Olympus 300mm f/4 IS gives a run for its money to the D500. For now the D500 remains slightly ahead of the EM1 MKII in AF performance but the weight advantage of the lens clearly goes to Olympus.
Note: one negative with the FTZ adapter: you cannot add or remove the FTZ adapter if you have an arca swiss plate mounted on the Z7: that sucks! You need to remove the arca plate first to be able to mount or remove the adapter which will not turn completely otherwise. An arca plate with smaller depth dimension would be needed to be compatible with the FTZ adapter.
