This very mature Sweet Autumn Clematis vine had to be cut down to the ground a few months back in order for the house exterior to be painted. I enjoyed the minimalist look of the new paint and the stark vine for a few days. A few months later this vine is reaching for the gutter.

This is probably the foundation for a building or structure, located in Desert, California.
ABOUT DESERT:
Desert, California is a Union Pacific Railroad site about five miles northwest of Nipton. It is situated on the railroad line that runs from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City. When I visited in 2010, it consisted of three boarded-up buildings (two of which were houses surrounded by low fences to keep children away from the railroad track), some sheds, a few trees, a cluster of large concrete foundation blocks (for a large water tower?), a mini-van with no rear window or license plate, a dilapidated Hostess Cake delivery truck, an empty concrete foundation that once supported a shed, and small piles of tie plates. The dirt yards around the houses had minor decorative structures. Buildings were in disrepair. A prominent water tower on a spindly steel structure stood at the southeast end of the site. It appeared to have been abandoned for a while, so some things seemed out of place: an all-terrain vehicle, a gasoline-powered weed whacker, and a boat on a trailer.
Since my visit, the site has been cleared of almost everything. All that remains is one building and the bare foundation for the water tower. It's as if a giant scraper had been dragged across the ground, scooping up everything in its path, trees included. Current aerial imagery shows the cleared area. To see what it used to look like, look at Google Earth's historical imagery of 2002-3.
This was made using a New York Beauty foundation fabric.
It took me over 3 years (from fabric shopping through quilting) to complete.

The mission of the DeGrazia Foundation is the preservation and perpetuation of the artistic and cultural legacy of Ted and Marion DeGrazia. In order to do so the DeGrazia Foundation has taken steps to insure The Gallery in the Sun will be open long into the future. As of March 1st, there will be an admission charge of $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth 12-18 and children under 12 will be free of charge. A yearly membership can also be purchased for $25.00.
DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is open daily from 10:00-4:00.
The Foundation Hotel is the former headquarters for the Detroit Fire Department, while a neighboring building - also now part of the hotel - served as the Pontchartrain Wine Cellars.
Renovated and opened in May 2017, the hotel offers 100 rooms, the Apparatus Room restaurant, meeting space, and numerous amenities.
