Face Rock on your left amongst the multitude of other formations along the beaches of Bandon, Oregon.
We're lucky enough to have at least two males and two ringtails on the levels at the moment, they are covering a huge area, from Bridgwater bay to Glastonbury, so being in the right place at the right time is as much about luck as anything.
A bird usually passes through this site once or twice a day, albeit for twenty seconds or so, sometimes stopping a little longer. And if you don't have your wits about you, you've missed it. This male dropped down in the sedge and stayed put, out of sight, for a good forty minutes before moving off again. He never really came close enough and stayed low in the sedge tops, which despite their rather pleasing colour, are very shiny and contrasty, making focusing a nightmare. A ringtail also moved through later.

It's hard to believe it's been this long already. I put this together quite a while back as my own tribute and thought this would be a good time to share it.

I created a tumblr to collect all the beautiful artistic self-portraits that are out there: not-a-selfie.tumblr.com/

The name, meaning "Forty Columns" in Persian, was inspired by the twenty slender wooden columns supporting the entrance pavilion, which, when reflected in the waters of the fountain, are said to appear to be forty.

D&RGW filed a discontinuance of service request with the ICC for operation of the Rio Grande Zephyr between Denver, Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah early in 1983. The request was approved, and the final run between SLC and Denver was slated for April 24th. Queue in Mother Nature who had other plans for the D&RGW. A giant landslide came down the mountain at Thistle, Utah, stopping the flow of the Spanish Fork River, auto traffic along US Highway 6, and the Rio Grande main line on April 15th. The last runs of the RGZ in Utah became bus subsitutions between Salt Lake City and Grand Junction. My dad and I were on hand to see the final "Rio Grande Zephyr", a Trailways bus stop in Provo. It was appropriately a dark, foreboding morning in Happy Valley. We documented the event on film and waved goodbye to what remained of a friend we once knew.
So. Today was my last day in my forties! Tomorrow a new decade begins. As you can see the years have not been kind, and I have shrunk considerably over the last few months. Apologies for including my ugly mug, but I couldn't think of another way of introducing a sense of scale to this structure.
The 8th of August, it will be the birthday of August Brill.
