After the heavy rains of the last two days on the spur of the moment I decided to bomb up to Bowlees, park the car and get some shots of the high and Low force waterfalls in spate.
White Force is often little more than a trickle but after rain quite impressive.
It is on Black Ark which flows off Cronkley Fell and enters Skyler Beck which joins the Tees at Pasture Foot about a mile above High Force
I was looking for some information and Googled this waterfall near Askrigg. This is what I found...
'Whitfield Gill Force just over half a mile from Mill Gill is a rugged boulder strewn gill with a drop of 25 feet. The view of the fall at the end of the path is obstructed by trees and to get a better view you will need to scramble down a steep slope not very safe after rain.' They're aren't kidding! It is indeed a difficult waterall to get to and I had to pick my way very carefully over boulders and fallen trees; it would be easy to get a turned ankle here. The fall itself isn't very easy to photograph as it's very high with the spray immediately misting my lens - plus some balancing acts going on to stay upright whilst photographing it! I soon retreated back into the gill itself which was strewn with lots of lovely gems of photo opportunities, especially in autumn. In this picture you can just see the waterfall itself in the background. It was a magical place to be though.
Also, on the way back I did take a bit of a tumble and came precariously close to the edge of the ravine that I'd just walked back out of. I had wobbly legs of fear walking back to Askrigg! ;-)
Probably not for the faint hearted this place but if you're a little bit adventurous worth a visit with the camera (and maybe a friend!) :-)
Was scrolling back through the photo roll on my tablet the other night. Love doing this periodically as it helps connect me with my recent past. The photos represent almost anything and everything that occurs in my daily life. Some of it artistic, some just banal snippets and snapshots. But collectively it forms the tapestry that is my life. These photos help me remember things much more clearly than they otherwise would be if left to my aging memory. I've taken to using inexpensive photo processing apps on the tablet. Not to supplant my usual Photoshop work. But more to augment it. Each app brings a different look, and helps me see my work in a different light. Moreover, processing g on a tablet breaks me free of being bound to a desktop computer. It's a more causal and relaxed approach that often better suits my mindset. Particularly in the evening when I tend to shun computers. Anyway I was delighted to come across a series of photos on the tablet that I had thought were lost to a recent hard drive failure. These were from a session with model Katie back in autumn. I had done some creative processing some time back, and had simply forgotten about the exported images. This one really jumped out at me. The app created a rather shocking vision, even by my standards. It brought back an eerie vibe I picked up during the original shoot. A gifted artist in her own right, Katie appears in her everyday life as perfectly normal grad student. But the vintage clothing and the dreary setting of dead field corn transformed her into a wraith-like apparition. At times the photo session almost felt secondary to the dark vision that had sprung completely from imagination. The processing needed to be as compelling as the actual scene. Once you go this far, it's pointless to pull punches. This image totally summed up the mood. For me it's a delightfully dark blend of vintage photo, ghost picture, and scene from a horror film.
Haven’t done a sw post in a while so here ye go. The designs for the figs were inspired by Roman and fjj customs on ig.

I thought I'd have an outing before my area goes in to Covid Tier 3 tomorrow. Revisited Scale Haw Force hoping, this time, for some autumnal colours but suspect I'd missed the best of it.
This image is two photos focus stacked.
Caught the big bird on departure from Detroit Metro Airport today. Lucky guess on the runway route for departure. Because of the scenery, this is where I wanted it to happen.
Cuando vi las olas con estos colores no pude evitar inmortalizar este momento.
I hope you like. Espero que les guste.

We have been experiencing some very strong winds the past few days that have seen gusts well over 50 mph. The waves on Lake Superior have been impressive, recorded at 20 feet high in some places and providing some nice photo opportunities along the shore. The white caps are clearly visible in this image at Two Harbors as B&LE 906 runs light back to town after working the Wales Branch.
Wandering up Low Force toward High Force Gill. I sometimes feel that landscape photography doesn't need to be a wide open vista to be a landscape image.
