Huron and Erie Basins, Salford Quays
I went down to the Quays this morning with the intention of shooting some long exposures of architectural details, but woke up to a dull grey featureless sky. Besides, my head wasn't in the best place so I didn't even bother to take the tripod. After our compulsory Costa coffee and toast, Mrs R went around the shops and I wandered in the direction of the Detroit Bridge... this is what I came back with.

Of the many things that I love about pinhole photography is that it slows me down. This is not a pinhole photograph, but the only reason that I took it was because I had 20 minutes to wait while my pinhole camera exposed. I had nothing to do but stand in the space that I was trying to capture. It was only in that pause that I started to examine the reflections in the water. I felt like a little kid, with nothing to do except explore the world.

Fluid couplings, fluid flywheels and torque converters, all employ fluid, usually oil, to provide initially, on engine tick over, a degree of slip in the mechanism, ( like a disengaged clutch/ that is pedal depressed ) when we engage drive, as in a car for instance, we release the handbrake, increase the engine revolutions, by means of the accelerator pedal, and by increasing the input speed the fluid friction increases, until we have in effect a "solid" drive, and hence vehicle movement.
The resemblance visually /externally is reasonably accurate, internally there are only vague similarities.......
This image comprises a water fountain head in a domed spray setting or mode, and hence is a fluid form.
I have taken the man out of the engineering ( via retirement ) but i cannot remove the engineering from the man.. it has become too far ingrained, even without conscious thought, the mind flows into it.

The last in this miniseries of ICM (blurred shots) from the Quays you'll be glad to hear. Quite enjoyed playing around with the texture slider in raw for these - you can quite easily mimic a painted look without much effort.
Next time though, I might take the zoom and try for some action shots

My beautiful Key Largo. Reflections of the sky and the mangroves, in the water of a mangrove-lined canal. (Retitled thanks to Midnight and Me's suggestion-- was titled Sky Reflections-- like this better??
When you look at water, what do you look for? What do you see? Sometimes I look to see what fish and sealife I can see, and then I'm surprised when my photographs show me a reflection of the sky I hadn't even seen. Sometimes now, when I look at the water, I see fear for the future health of this ecosystem. The Florida reef system and the Florida Everglades combined are the only ecosystem like this in the world- a national treasure.
Things still look this beautiful in Key Largo. Good news in that the "tar balls" found around the Keys are not from the oil spill. (We get random tar balls that appear on the ocean side -- not the bayside-- from ships going by.) So come visit Florida, it is beautiful and still pristine. There simply are many fears for the future, should the loop current bring all the toxins here. The scientists say that some of the toxins from the oil and from the chemical dispersants will get into our water. We hope, hope, hope that there is little damage. Mangrove lined shore lines cannot be cleaned up like beaches. The nurseries in the mangrove roots are very fragile, like all babies and new life. Mangroves are sometimes called "trees in the sea" because they grow right out of the water. More of that in my photostream, and in first comment below.

A tricky challenge was laid down today by fellow Hereio, Jack Lawrence. The task is to copy and twist one of his photographs and then post it in the RE-MAKE THIS! group. Jack is a somewhat unconventional photographer – and that’s the challenge. I selected the image he called ”Gender | Fluid” and I do believe my version is a bit “twisted”.
