Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris) It was cold but sunny and this greenfinch was making the most of it!

Another shot of the Juvenile Black-capped Chickadee! He is absolutely adorable :)

A gang of 6 is rocking my town, and this is one of them 😍

Windy day and fluffed feathers make for an interesting scene.

Great Blue Heron - Circle B Bar Reserve

Two Great Horned Owl Owlets still in the fluff ball stage.

A young Kestrel fresh out of the nest, it couldn't fly, but just sat outside nest. There were four Kestrel chicks this year, this was the boldest. It's been a good year for birds around here, but bad in ways we all know about !!

all fluffed out

happy sliderssunday flickrinos!

The light during our birthday stroll yesterday was absolutely amazing and everything looked pretty like these little "fluff things" whose name I have forgotten again. :) P.D.: It is some kind of clematis. Thanks to Steven Hromnak for clarifying)

Resting and trying to stay warm, a female House Sparrow fluffs up its feathers and poses sweetly for me.

I like its feather colors as well as the color of the beak.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone...

Pink and pretty small fluffers from Berkeley, California, with love.

This little guy looked sleek and slim one minute and a round ball of fluff the next. Tauhou (aka white or silver eyes) eating banana, mandarin and kiwifruit. I do enjoy hanging out watching the birds eat breakfast.

Link to 55 second movie of the birds eating breakfast on the same morning.

This is a totally different look for an American Bittern. After just going in the swamp after a fish and consuming it, for a split second it fluffed up and shook the water off it’s feathers. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing through my camera.

Even after their best, they look a pretty sight

Marbled Godwit all puffed up.

This Horned Lark fluffs its feathers presumably for warmth.

It was a cold morning when I spotted the Northern Pygmy Owl. She was all fluffed up trying to stay warm. These birds are really tiny - 5-9 inches, but they are strong for their size and can carry prey weighing more than twice their weight.

Last April, I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful male snowy owl. It this shot, it fluffed itself up and shook as the finale of its preening routine.

A yellow billed cuckoo coming to investigate a few Ovenbirds singing loudly in an opening of a forest. There are many types of birds that live and breed in the forest, and cuckoos are among the most unique. Unlike their European cousins the North American Yellow Billed Cuckoo do lay their own eggs in their own nest, even though they can be nest intruders as well. They are one of the animals that eat gypsy moths, so they are going to have a heck of year this year as we’ve got a horrible outbreak this year!

Aufgeplustert wie ein kleiner Feder- / Flauschball saß das Rotkehlchen im Schnee und beobachtet die Umgebung und die fallenden Schneeflocken :)

This very young barred owlet was branching out for the first time away from the nest.

Florida, Usa.
