This is the stem once removed, and you can sort of see its geometry here: the main brass piece of the stem has the star-shaped end to fit against the handle, and has threads on the other side which are what rotate to open the valve. Above (well, to the left, here) the wide threaded part of the stem is a brass washer to keep the packing separate from the threads, and above that are the remnants of the packing that was originally in here.
When it wouldn't come out, I had tried picking some of the packing out with needle nosed pliers and a knife point. I don't recommend that--it didn't really help, and it just made a mess.
3/1 Sculpt update on the droid AL1-L3 "Allie" - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - 1:18 scale.
Sculpt using Aves FIXIT Sculpt. A two-part epoxy.
Sorry for the delay in updates! This particular figure needed a bit more work before a proper update could be made.
Please note the shots may show bits of dust and unrefined sculpt as this is a work in progress.
I wanted to show more of a whole instead of a piecemeal of several, similar updates featuring the same procedure which consists of texturizing and detail…something this figure requires much of from head to toe.
I still have so much detail to add to the “internals” of the droid before getting to its body plating for the chest, back, lower abdomen, arms, legs and feet.
The outer plating will be sculpted DIRECTLY to the figure and will not be removable. I tested the idea for removable plates but it hindered the slim look of the droid and gave the figure a “chunky” appearance. So unfortunately, some of the detail you see here will be lost.
The head is pretty much complete other than a few adjustments. Once those are made, I will mold and cast a sample so I can sculpt the droid’s helmet.
Other updates to come! Sculpting this weekend and excited for what’s to come! Stand by and thanks again for your continued interest in my work!

5/25 Sculpt update on the droid AL1-L3 "Allie" - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - 1:18 scale.

I have been working on scribing the helmet as well as building the front, removable breast plate.
The scribe detail on the helmet is still a work in progress and it’s isn’t 100% accurate due to the lack of reference images but I feel it’s enough for a figure at this scale.
The breast plate is a very delicate step, creating a rough shape of the plate and how it conforms to the body. While the epoxy cures, it’s removed several times from the body to trim down the excess for a better fit. The final step it to keep the final epoxy plate from curing to the figure itself. Once the tackiness of the epoxy has diminished, the sculpt can have some final adjustments made before allowing to fully cure. Several hours later, the sculpted plate can be removed and refined with a Dremel tool. At this point the piece is very delicate. Only after adding additional sculpt material to bring out detail can you take a breath while working with it.
Then I use very small magnets to attached the plate to the body. I should have some shot s of that in the next update.
Quick update but additional details to come! Happy to have an added feature of the plates being removable. Magnets are your friend!
More to come! Thanks for your continued interest!

More detail of the AF sub-mechanism. Took this shot so I'd be able to put the little gears back in place.
