A freezing cold night leaving the nearby pub was worthwhile to catch the firework display.
The Brazilica Festival is the largest celebration of Brazilian culture in the United Kingdom that has been held annually in Liverpool, England since July 2008. It is produced by the Liverpool Carnival Company, an organisation that has operated as a registered charity since 2007. The festival began during Liverpool's reign as European Capital of Culture in 2008 when a Rio-style Carnival Parade swept through the streets of the city. In its current format, the festival consists of a week-long celebration of Brazilian culture including music, art, food, film and dance events that take place at indoor venues across the city which build up to an outdoor city centre carnival street party that takes place in Williamson Square and samba carnival parade.
The Liverpool Samba School was set up by husband and wife creative team Roger and Maeve Morris in 1995. The school performed at the Rio Carnival in 2000 and wanted to bring a touch of the Carnival's magic to streets in their own city. In 2007, the creative team established the Liverpool Carnival Company with an aim of delivering a Carnival event the following year.

gürzenich, festival hall, cologne, germany, 1440 / 1955, architect: rudolf schwarz / karl band (reconstruction);

Winter is officially chased out of Zurich with the traditional spring festival - Sechseläuten.
26 Zurich guilds parade through the city center along Bahnhofstrasse and Limmatquai towards Bellevue, where the festival climaxes at exactly 18:00 when a snowman-like figure called Böögg is burned. When the Böögg’s head finally explodes the season of fog and cold feet is officially over. A fast explosion of his head promises a warm and sunny summer. (Indeed it was a fast explosion this time).
Had an opportunity to roam around on my first day in Zurich as it happened to be a bank holiday. After witnessing my first tram ride, got to paradeplatz and witnessed the parade marching along various strasse and finally the snowman bonfire at Bellevue. Thousands of people flourished along the bellevue end of the Zurich lake.

Taiwan's Tsou tribe celebrated the Mayasvi war festival to honor its gods and warriors on 2/15/2015.
Mayasvi: This is the highlight of the Tsous’ festive calendar. Held every year after the Homeyaya, the site of this festival is the square right outside the men’s gathering place, or Kuba. Today, the Tapangu and Tfuya communities are the center of all Mayasvi celebrations. Mayasvi roughly translates as “Victory Ceremony”.

A last from the kite festival and a slight change of plan. I've decided to replace my previous post ad make this my #36 entry for 112 Pictures 2012 - "Represent the title of a song in your image": 'Let's Go Fly a Kite'. I have other plans for the original post.
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!

Teej is one of the most widely celebrated festivals of Rajasthan. Swings, traditional songs and dancing are the unique features of Teej celebrations in Rajasthan. Women perform traditional folk dance dressed in green colored clothes and sing beautiful Teej songs while enjoying their sway on swings bedecked with flowers.
I made this photograph at a festival in Thimphu two weeks ago. The packed crowd of local people that had gathered to watch the dancing monks was as charming as the performance itself.
Unfortunately I came upon the festival after it had completed but I was able to capture several impressive submissions.
Its sad in its way the skill to which some of these were shot and in just a few days of weather and idiots they will be gone forever.
