So I've slowly been working on a mini-amusement park; And this is kinda a quick test for part of it, what do you think?
Back to Costa Rica, San Gerardo de Dota this time.
It is really incredible how fast those little hummingbirds fly. And I've got a trash bin full of proof that it really is extremely difficult to catch them in flight. So when this Green Violetear hovered just long enough for the focus to catch on I couldn't have been more happy.

Dassault Mirage 2000D of the Couteau Delta tactical display team does a fast and low pass about 600knts and you can jus see the top of the fence to show how low they are.
A brilliant display, as always.

If you ever find yourself in the Knysna area and in search of a bit of an adrenaline rush... you might perhaps consider signing up for a 3km downhill ride through the forest on an unpowered scooter?
"Scootours offers a unique and true forest experience. Enjoy an exhilarating downhill run on a Monster Mountain Scooter. Descend through indigenous forests, sweeping bends and a single track. A scenic minibus ride takes you into the heart of the forest to the best hills to start your descent into the Garden Route National Park. All of this while on the lookout for the our local wild life, the majestic Knysna Loerie, the shy bushbuck and wild boar."
It sure looks like a lot of fun... here's a link to their website... scootours.co.za/knysna-forest/
This is the Boise River and at this point it's running through,
well, Boise, Idaho. I think this 'water feature' is man made but I can't see a reason as to why, except perhaps to provide a pool of water for fish, etc during low water levels in late summer. Further downriver but still within Boise, the city installed gates on the river that they use to create 'waves' that people can surf and kayak. (DSC_5635.jpg)

I had a lot of fun in the forest this past time around. Well, fun is not the right word for the experience. It is not like I was jumping around hollering and grinning from ear-to-ear. Yet I was happy. Very happy with where I was and what I was doing. There is a calm to an old forest that you don't find anywhere, not even at the edge of an ocean (which isn't so calm as it is patient, and there is a difference there). Old forests like this have a calm that leeches out the helter skelter of our fast-paced lives, and trust me, compared to a tree, our lives are very fast-paced indeed.
No time for a long exposure here. The waves were hitting this rock on the shore of Lake Manapouri perfectly so it was time to ramp up the shutter speed!
Reading and Northern's North Reading Fast Freight, or NRFF, is coming through the companies headquarters in Port Clinton, Pennsylvania. Two SD50s sandwiching a SD40-2 power the train of 30 or so cars.
Though this was the result of my handheld panning, I can guarantee you that paces are fast for almost everything in Japan.
