Al jaren groeit de interesse in ons land voor Japan en haar cultuur. Echter wordt er in de meeste gevallen alleen aandacht geschonken aan animatie, games en cosplay, terwijl een van de grootste aspecten ondergeschoven wordt: Fashion.
OshareCon is de conventie die voornamelijk aandacht geeft aan de mode van Japan. Van Gyaru tot Shironuri, Decora tot Visual-kei. Wij willen de mensen die hier interesse in hebben ook een eigen podium geven! OshareCon speelt in op de vraag naar een festival meer gericht op kleding, make up en lifestyle. Uiteraard zijn otaku’s en cosplayers meer dan welkom. Wij zijn er voor iedereen die van de Japanse cultuur houdt en er meer over te weten wil komen. Tijdens het event zullen lectures, workshops en uiteraard modeshows plaats vinden, en is er natuurlijk ruimte om gewoon me elkaar te socializen en nieuwe mensen te leren kennen. Oshare, een woord dat vaak in Japan gebruikt wordt om aan te duiden dat je er super tof of über kawaii uit ziet! Dus OshareCon is de conventie voor iedereen die van Japanese fashion houdt! RSA-US Student Design Awards aka #SDAUS, is an award program to inspire collaborative and multi-disciplinary design-led social by connecting design students and faculty with industry needs.
Why do we need SDA-US? Why now?
“It is a pivotal moment in the field of socially responsible design. More than ever, design professionals are involved in projects that have a social impact. Student enrolment in educational programs or social innovation is growing exponentially.” Bill Moggridge, RSA Royal Designer for Industry, co-founder of IDEO and Director, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum 2010-12.
How can I participate?
The awards are open to design students at US accredited schools. Faculty should oversee the students’ work, ideally by building the brief into the curriculum, by setting up workshops, and/or by individual mentoring. We'll announce the 2014 briefs and key dates in May 2013- so stay tuned:

One of the highlights of the Creative Festival 2010 was the fashion shows held at the Whitgift Shopping Centre on Thursday 24 June. Catwalk creations from the BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing, the Foundation Degree in Fashion Design, Pattern and Cutting and Construction and the BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Business students were shown. The Gala Evening performance saw the show opened by the Lady Mayor, Avril Slipper.
