Vintage tencel floor length v-neck empire sleeveless dress

BOX DATE: 1991

MANUFACTURER: Mattel

PERSONAL FUN FACT: This outfit is one of those tacky ones from the 90s that I absolutely adore! Okay, so as a kid, I probably wouldn't have played with this fashion all that often. It seems like the gaudy sort of ensemble that Colleen would have used on one of our Becky dolls (Becky did not have the best fashion sense if you ask me). What makes this outfit so special to me is the circumstance in which I got it. One of my close friends, who I've known my entire life, sadly lost her grandmother. I knew her grandmother for most of my life too, as she was always at my friend's birthday parties and other family gatherings. Her grandmother knew that Colleen and I collected dolls, so before she passed away, she wanted my friend to make sure that we looked at some of her doll stuff when she was gone. I found a small baggie in her spare bedroom, while helping my friend go through some of her grandmother's things, which contained two Barbie dolls and two sealed fashion packs. Since my Sparkle Beach Barbie, who came from the same bag, was in the nude, and being that I didn't have an original outfit for her to wear, I thought it was most fitting if she donned this ensemble in storage. Both of my dolls and the two fashion packs are fond memories of my friend's wonderful grandmother, and I hope to treasure them always.

Drawing on themes of innocence and experience, 'Canvas' looks atandroids as blank canvases and follows their exploration of human culture frombirth to a bitter end. Their experimentation with clothes and make up takesthem through different stages of our story culminating in the death of one at thethieving, jealous hand of the other.

This story is a celebration of colour and portrays fashion asArt; it shows the notion that our experiences are like coloured brushstrokes on a once blank Canvas.

Car Headlights - Behind

I asked one of my upcoming brides to be photographed for some fashion work, and she agreed. We had her in my car right in front of my home. My driveway slopes down, so I parked my car sideways on my driveway, hoping my other car's headlight from above would pour into the window. However, the light was hard cutting off her waist. So, I added a softbox and tipped it down into the car. After that, I added a small adjustable flashlight to the left side of her softly.
