This was taken a couple of years ago in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. I went up on the Grand Mesa yesterday and the colors are starting to turn. The year this was taken the colors were late this year it seems like they might be slightly early.
I captured this image up north at Itasca State Park. Woke up early to catch the sunrise and the beautiful fall colors!
For me, seeing mallard ducks flying in front of fall foliage is the epitome of the presentation of fall.
Do not go where the path may lead.
Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
The rain and wind these days have not helped the trees with their colorful leaves. Most are falling dry and brown or still are green.
"It’s so easy to fall for fall."

Happy Sunday!
Elakala falls are some of the most photographed falls of West Virginia. However, this one is less commonly photographed because it requires some efforts to be reached. This is known as the second fall. More sometimes there is no much water. However, our group was lucky to be there few days after some heavy rains so the falls was at its best. This image was taken after crossing the creek to get a better view of the fall. I used a long exposure to the get the swirling water. This was achieved by using a polarizer filter and a 10 stop ND filter.

"Fall colors are funny. They’re so bright and intense and beautiful. It’s like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary."

I've been obsessed with butterflies recently so haven't posted for a while. the good news is there are good numbers of High Brown Fritillaries, but worryingly there are hardly any Dark Greens. This was one from recent years, it's sad to see populations fall, but hopefully it's just all part of regular fluctuations. On many of the areas this year I've been seeing all High Browns.
