You're a refraction of the one light. You're a waveform of light. You're a fractal, a pattern that continuously changes.

--Frederick Lenz

This image is from my most recent trip to Cuba.

I was employee number six of Altamira group, the creators of Genuine Fractals scaling technology and the second employee of Niksoftware. That goes back to the time when dirt was discovered. Why I bring this up is my complete and utter fascination with the concept that everything in the universe is a fractal, no two fractals are the same but in the same exact place after a series of random numbers is The Thumbprint of God. A perfect mathematical fractal, such as the famous Mandelbrot set— this self-similarity goes infinitely deep: each pattern made up of smaller copies of itself and those smaller copies made up of smaller copies again, forever.

What does the above have to do with this image you ask? There is the whole totality of the car, then there are the smaller parts of the self similarity of the car that are part of the whole and yet completely different. That thought just fascinates me. So if you wonder why you see a lot a parts of the micro and macro world of reality. Now you know.

I shot this with the135mm f 1.8 S “Plena” Nikkor lens. 1/250 of a second ISO 125. Image raw processed in NX Studio and Photoshop CC with the NiK collection.

Taken with a Canon T2i/550D and Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens at f/5.6. 63 1/30-second exposures at ISO100 in a focus stack (DoF stack) were combined with Zerene Stacker using DMap mode. Shooting was done tethered to a PC using the Canon EOS utility. Focus stepping was done by pressing the live view ">" focus button once between each exposure in the stack.

It's not unusual to find in Rome this stands with a lot of used books this one for example was near Piazza del Popolo.

Started testing this new masterpiece from Zeiss. Not quite a good example to start with, but I really love how it captures the details. (Though I'd guess 5D Mark III is not matching up with the best potential performance of the lens.)

After reading dozens of reviews of various 35mm prime lenses, I ended up choosing the Samyang 35mm f/1.4. The Canon 24 & 35 1.4 L are well out of my budget at the moment, so this is the only lens around that focal lenght I could afford. The reviews for the Samyang have been rather positive so far and I thought I would take the risk and get it myself.

I'm only at testing stage since I got the lens yesterday, and I only had the chance to take a few shots, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the colour rendition and contrast it offers. I just wanted to share my first impressions with all those who might be interested in this lens.

The built is quite good and it feels like a good solid lens. It's bigger than I thought it'll be, and it's considerably longer than my Sigma 50mm 1.4. The focusing ring works quite well and it's easy to operate, the same for the apperture ring. Being a manual lens I need to focus through live view most of the time and that slows down the process a bit, but I noticed it's not too difficult to nail the focus provided there's enough light.

I obviously need to try it in different conditions to see how it performs and will try and share my impressions but so far I don't feel I made a mistake buying this lens. For just about 1/4 of the price of the Canon 35 1.4 L I think it's worth the money, even if it isn't ideal under some conditions.

(This shot is straight from the camera, RAW format, neutral pic style, only converted through Adobe ACR. Sorry, EXIF data is wrong. That's one of the drawbacks of the Samyang. It really is 35mm @ f1.4)

Something was really wrong with this film. Maybe because it was expired, maybe because it stayed too long in the camera... I don't know.

But the colors on most of the frames are totally off.
