Sea lions are pinnipeds characterized by external ear flaps, long foreflippers, the ability to walk on all fours, short, thick hair, and a big chest and belly. Together with the fur seals, they comprise the family Otariidae, eared seals, which contains six extant and one extinct species (the Japanese sea lion) in five genera. Their range extends from the subarctic to tropical waters of the global ocean in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, with the notable exception of the northern Atlantic Ocean. They have an average lifespan of 20–30 years. A male California sea lion weighs on average about 300 kg (660 lb) and is about 2.4 m (8 ft) long, while the female sea lion weighs 100 kg (220 lb) and is 1.8 m (6 ft) long. The largest sea lion is Steller's sea lion, which can weigh 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) and grow to a length of 3.0 m (10 ft). Sea lions consume large quantities of food at a time and are known to eat about 5–8% of their body weight (about 6.8–15.9 kg (15–35 lb)) at a single feeding. Sea lions can move around 16 knots (30 km/h; 18 mph) in water and at their fastest they can reach a speed of about 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph). Three species, the Australian sea lion, the Galápagos sea lion and the New Zealand sea lion, are listed as endangered. 61523
The church incorporates in its chancel arch masonry dating from c.1200. To this early building a south aisle and south chapel were added in the earlier 13th century; the chancel may also have been lengthened at this time. By the early 19th century a south porch and west tower, constructed of timber, had been added. Restoration of the church took place in 1854-5 under the direction of T.H. Wyatt, when the external walls were rebuilt. In 1933 the south chapel was extended eastwards and an aisle was added to the northern side of the church.
St. Andrew's Church was a chapelry within Downton ecclesiastical parish until 1915 when it was annexed to Odstock parish. Arguments by the inhabitants of Nunton and Bodenham that the church should be detached from Downton parish had arisen since the latter half of the 16th century; at numerous points in the 17th to 19th centuries the scarcity of services was noted.
In 1553 there were three bells, which remain in the church today. Parish registers date from 1672; baptism registers from this date to 1906 are held at the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre in Chippenham, as are marriage registers from 2000, with a brief gap between 1764 and 1759. Burial registers held at the Centre date from 1672 to 1965. Later registers than those cited here remain with the church.

When colors travel around
In the little details
The painter is gone

Pinnnacle @ Duxton, Singapore
I spent an afternoon noodling around the remarkable "Pinnacle @ Duxton" building complex, in Singapore. The public skybridge is an intriguing community space located on the 50th floor. Its 500 metre span connects the 7, 50 story buildings, comprising the complex.
This architectural marvel is an inspired community housing project, completed in 2009 - the deserving winner of several awards.
The Praetor's Palace on the central square of the Old Town in Koper :)
The Praetor's Palace is a 15th-century Venetian Gothic palace in Koper. It was once the seat of the city's rulers and today houses the city hall. It is located on the city's central square, Tito Square (named after Marshal Tito, the former president of the Republic of Yugoslavia), and is considered one of the city's architectural landmarks. The building's appearance is dominated by the late Gothic-Renaissance and Venetian styles. The palace is decorated with an external staircase, an external balcony, a distinctive façade, a figure of Justice with her sword and many decorative coats of arms with sculptures from Koper's history.
Koper is the fifth largest city in Slovenia. Located in the Istrian region in the southwestern part of the country, Koper is the main urban center of the Slovene coast. Settlements in this place date back to antiquity. The settlement gradually turned into a port, which in the Middle Ages, mainly thanks to the Republic of Venice, grew into one of the most important on the Adriatic. Today, port of Koper is the country's only container port and a major contributor to the local economy. Its architecture is dominated by Venetian influences. There is also a quite impressive old town with defensive walls and a layout of streets and buildings, in some places still referring to the layout of buildings from the Middle Ages.

Pałac Pretorów na starówce w mieście Koper :)
Pałac Pretorów to XV-wieczny pałac w stylu gotyku weneckiego w mieście Koper. W wyglądzie budynku dominuje styl późnogotycko-renesansowy i wenecki. Pałac zdobi zewnętrzna klatka schodowa, zewnętrzny balkon, wyrazista fasada, figura Sprawiedliwości z jej mieczem oraz wiele ozdobnych herbów z rzeźbami z historii Kopru.
Koper – miasto portowe w Słowenii nad Morzem Adriatyckim.

First serious use of my new Canon G5X. Very small but all the external controls of a DSLR. Lovely to use and great for when I just don't want to carry the 5DMk3 plus heavy glass.

The set of temples on the island of Philé does not constitute an isolated system. Rather, it is closely linked to other nearby temples (Abaton) and to the series of Nubian temples that, from Philé, dot the shores of Lower Nubia. The pharaohs (almost continuously in each reign) had donated "the fields" (the Dodekaschoenos) to the goddess, which is the same as saying: to her priests.
On the island, there is a clear gradation in the temples. The main temple is that of Isis, which occupies the main axial position, while the other temples (Arensnufis, Imhotep, etc.) are subordinate to that of the goddess, being located transversally to said axis.
The decoration of the walls of the temples that make up the Philae complex was carried out according to a system described by Eleni Vassilika (Ptolemaic Philae), according to which the artists, following the guidelines of the theologians, would have produced a series of decorative cartoons from which the wall decorations would have been erected, maintaining strict regulated standards.

These scans come from my rather large magazine collection. Instead of filling my house with old moldy magazines, I scanned them (in most cases, photographed them) and filled a storage area with moldy magazines. Now they reside on an external harddrive. I thought others might appreciate these tidbits of forgotten history.
Please feel free to leave any comments or thoughts or impressions... Thanks in advance!
