As a young child going out to see trains with my dad was a regular occurrence. One of my first memories as a young kid was driving to Lancaster to go to Strasburg with him. Back then you'd see 31, 7002, 1223, and eventually 89. However at the time my favorite was always old #90. With her extended boiler, she just looked different and so much bigger than any other engine I had seen. Fast forward 40+ years and to the next to last day of 2023, and it only felt right to head to Lancaster to see #90 before she went down for her mandated 1472 day inspection. With the age of these old machines, nothing is guaranteed, so just in case I wanted to grab at least one run.
Here we see #90 charging upgrade through Groffs Grove. With no stop here during the winter, the engine puts on a pretty good show on the return trip to Strasburg. Here's to hoping all goes smoothly with the inspection and she's back to hauling passengers through the Lancaster County countryside in no time!
Salid a recibirlo.»” (Mateo 25:6).

HODBARROW LIGHTHOUSE HAS ALSO BEEN KNOWN AS MILLOM BREAKWATER LIGHTHOUSE AND HAVERIGG LIGHTHOUSE. IN APRIL 1900 HODBARROW MINING CO. LTD STARTED BUILDING A SEA WALL TO PROTECT THE IRON ORE WORKINGS WHICH EXTENDED UNDER THE RIVER BED OF THE DUDDON ESTUARY.
BY 3RD APRIL 1905 THE BREAKWATER WAS COMPLETED AND THE CURRENT CAST IRON TOWER LIGHTHOUSE, MADE BY MESSRS. COCHRANE & CO, FIRST EXHIBITED A LIGHT IN JULY OF THAT YEAR. IT REPLACED THE COMPANY'S 1866 STONE LIGHTHOUSE WHOSE LIGHT WAS EXTINGUISHED THE SAME DAY.
THE 30 FEET TALL TOWER HAS TWO FLOORS ACCESSIBLE BY INTERNAL LADDERS. DESPITE ELECTRICITY NOT REACHING THE MINING COMPANY UNTIL 1929 THE LAMP WAS FUELLED BY PARAFFIN THROUGHOUT ITS WORKING LIFE. THE LENS WAS SUPPLIED BY BARBIER BENARD ET TURENNE OF PARIS AND THE LIGHT WAS WHITE OCCULTING; ECLIPSED 3 SECONDS EVERY 10 SECONDS AND VISIBLE FOR 10 MILES.

Deutschland / Sachsen-Anhalt - Harz
The Harz is a Mittelgebirge that has the highest elevations in Northern Germany and its rugged terrain extends across parts of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. The name Harz derives from the Middle High German word Hardt or Hart (hill forest), Latinized as Hercynia. The Brocken is the highest summit in the Harz with an elevation of 1,141.1 metres (3,744 ft) above sea level. The Wurmberg (971 metres (3,186 ft)) is the highest peak located entirely within the state of Lower Saxony.
The Harz has a length of 110 kilometres (68 mi), stretching from the town of Seesen in the northwest to Eisleben in the east, and a width of 35 kilometres (22 mi). It occupies an area of 2,226 square kilometres (859 sq mi), and is divided into the Upper Harz (Oberharz) in the northwest, which is up to 800 m high, apart from the 1,100 m high Brocken massif, and the Lower Harz (Unterharz) in the east which is up to around 400 m high and whose plateaus are capable of supporting arable farming.
The following districts (Kreise) fall wholly or partly within the Harz: Goslar and Göttingen in the west, Harz and Mansfeld-Südharz in the north and east, and Nordhausen in the south. The districts of the Upper Harz are Goslar and Göttingen (both in Lower Saxony), whilst the Lower Harz is on the territory of Harz and Mansfeld-Südharz districts (both in Saxony-Anhalt). The Upper Harz is generally higher and features fir forests, whilst the Lower Harz gradually descends into the surrounding area and has deciduous forests interspersed with meadows.
The dividing line between Upper and Lower Harz follows approximately a line from Ilsenburg to Bad Lauterberg, which roughly separates the catchment areas for the Weser (Upper Harz) and Elbe (Lower Harz). Only on the southeastern perimeter of the Upper Harz, which is also called the High Harz (Hochharz) (Goslar, Göttingen and Harz districts), does the mountain range exceed 1,000 m above NN on the Brocken massif. Its highest peak is the Brocken (1,141 m), its subsidiary peaks are the Heinrichshöhe (1,044 m) to the southeast and the Königsberg (1,023 m) to the southwest. Other prominent hills in the Harz are the Acker-Bruchberg ridge (927 m), the Achtermannshöhe (925 m) and the Wurmberg (971 m) near Braunlage. In the far east, the mountains merge into the East Harz foothills (Harz district, Saxony-Anhalt), which are dominated by the Selke Valley. Part of the south Harz lies in the Thuringian district of Nordhausen.
The Harz National Park is located in the Harz; the protected area covers the Brocken and surrounding wilderness area. Approximately 600,000 people live in towns and villages of the Harz Mountains.

he Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island of New Zealand extends 85 kilometres north from the western end of the Bay of Plenty, forming a natural barrier to protect the Hauraki Gulf and the Firth of Thames in the west from the Pacific Ocean to the east. It is 40 kilometres wide at its broadest point. Almost the entire population lies on the narrow coastal strips fronting the Hauraki Gulf and the Bay of Plenty. In fine weather the peninsula is clearly visible from Auckland, the country's biggest city, which lies on the far shore of the Hauraki Gulf, 55 kilometres to the west. The peninsula is part of the local government areas of Thames-Coromandel District and the Waikato Region.
The Gentoo Penguin Pygoscelis papua, is easily recognized by the wide white stripe extending like a bonnet across the top of its head and its bright orange-red bill. The gentoo penguin has pale whitish-pink webbed feet and a fairly long tail - the most prominent tail of all penguins. Chicks have grey backs with white fronts. As the Gentoo penguin waddles along on land, its tail sticks out behind, sweeping from side to side, hence the scientific name Pygoscelis, which means ‘rump-tailed’.[1] Adult Gentoos reach a height of 51 to 90 cm (20–36 in),[2][3] making them the third largest species of penguin after the two giant species, the Emperor Penguin and the King Penguin. The Gentoo penguin calls in a variety of ways, but the most frequently heard is a loud trumpeting which is emitted with its head thrown back.[4]

The Quay and Chapel Street are the oldest parts of Penzance, as the town originates from a fishing community which sheltered their boats within the small sandy headland at Battery Rocks. The earliest references to Penzance being used for landing of fish is 1327, however the first quay was not constructed until 200 years later. On March 16th, 1512, Penzance received a charter from King Henry VIII, granting profits from all ships visiting the Harbour. The Old Pier was built in 1766. It was then extended in 1785, in 1812 and again in 1853. On the 20th January, 1817, a great storm hit Penzance with an extraordinary high tide. Much damage, to the sum of around £5,000, was caused to the Quay, ships, boats and houses. In 1825, the first steamer came into Penzance Harbour, followed twenty years later by the foundation stone for Albert Pier being laid. With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Penzance Harbour resumed the role it had played in the Napoleonic period and a naval base was established. In 1915, merchant ships were torpedoed by German Submarines. Large numbers of crew were landed at Penzance, including 95 on one day and 135 on another. And in 1919, after the end of the war, a surrendered German Submarine was taken to Penzance and opened for public inspection. The Second World War brought some destruction to Penzance in a way it had not experienced since the Spanish raid 350 years before. A total of 867 bombs were dropped in the area, killing 16 people and injuring 116 more, 48 houses were completely destroyed, 157 seriously damaged and 3,752 damaged. During the 1950s, an area at the Northern end of the Harbour was filled in to help create the large Wharfside car park. One of the most important uses of the harbour today is maintaining a sea link to the Isles of Scilly. Penzance Harbour also offers commercial ship repairs from the adjacent Penzance Dry Dock.

I guess by now I've filled up the bird bath twice now, but splashing the water down is just too much fun to stop. I'm also feeling really great in this sweet pink chemise, with the white stockings and Mary Jane type shoes underneath. I just want the fun to continue as long as possible.
Many thanks for the visits, faves and comments. Cheers
Rainbow Bee-eater
Scientific Name: Merops ornatus
The Rainbow Bee-Eater is a spectacular bird. With its green, blue, chestnut and yellow plumage, its slim build, slender curved bill and distinctive streamers that extend from the end of its tail, it is simply beautiful. Bee-Eaters are a familiar sight in many lightly-timbered parts of mainland Australia, where they often perch on fence-posts or overhead wires, then launch after flying insects, flying swiftly, sometimes with rapid twists and turns, before snapping the insect in its bill, and returning to the perch to eat it. Research featured in the 'State of Australia's Birds 2015' headline and regional reports shows a marked decline for the Rainbow Bee-eater (and some other aerial insectivories) in the East Coast region, where reporting rates for this species have dropped by over 50% in the since 2001.
Description: A striking, colourful bird, the Rainbow Bee-eater is medium sized, with a long slim curved bill and a long tail with distinctive tail-streamers. It has a golden crown and a red eye set in a wide black stripe from the base of the bill to the ears, which is edged with a thin blue line. The throat is orange-yellow, with a broad black band separating it from a green breast. The upperparts are green, with the flight feathers coppery and black tipped. The underwings are bright orange, with a black edge. The lower abdomen is blue. The tail is black, including the long tail streamers, with a blue tinge. Females have shorter, thicker tail streamers than males, but are otherwise similar. Young birds are duller and greener, lacking the black band on the chest and the long tail streamers.
Similar Species: The Rainbow Bee-eater may resemble some kingfishers, however these are plumper, with strong straight beaks, and never catch prey in flight.
Distribution: The Rainbow Bee-eater is found throughout mainland Australia, as well as eastern Indonesia, New Guinea and, rarely, the Solomon Islands. In Australia it is widespread, except in desert areas, and breeds throughout most of its range, although southern birds move north to winter over.
Habitat: The Rainbow Bee-eater is most often found in open forests, woodlands and shrublands, and cleared areas, usually near water. It will be found on farmland with remnant vegetation and in orchards and vineyards. It will use disturbed sites such as quarries, cuttings and mines to build its nesting tunnels.
Feeding: Rainbow Bee-eaters eat insects, mainly catching bees and wasps, as well as dragonflies, beetles, butterflies and moths. They catch flying insects on the wing and carry them back to a perch to beat them against it before swallowing them. Bees and wasps are rubbed against the perch to remove the stings and venom glands.
Breeding: Rainbow Bee-eaters gather in small flocks before returning to summer breeding areas after over-wintering in the north (apart from the resident northern populations). Both males and females select a suitable nesting site in a sandy bank and dig a long tunnel (average length: 89.4 cm) leading to a nesting chamber, which is often lined with grasses. Both parents incubate the eggs and both feed the young, sometimes with the assistance of auxiliaries (helpers).

A while ago the route was converted to double decker and was extended to East Dulwich Sainsbury's. i noticed that the new link was lightly used from my observations, but i think this is a really good one, now East Dulwich residents have a direct bus link to Central London which in my opinion is really good.
The route is pretty interesting and passes through some really pretty views in Dulwich Village, and provides some stunning views of London Landmarks on Champion Hill. I also really like this route for it's fast connections. My ride from East Dulwich - Aldgate lasted under an hour, with the bus going at some high speeds which was honestly a relief as i was on a lot buses which were moving a snail's pace so it was nice to have a ride that cheered me up
