The oystercatcher is a large, stocky, black and white wading bird. It has a long, orange-red bill and reddish-pink legs. In flight it shows a wide, white wing-stripe, a black tail and a white rump that extends as a 'V' between the wings.
Because it eats cockles, the population is vulnerable if cockle beds are overexploited.
They breed on almost all UK coasts. During the last 50 years, more birds have started breeding inland. Most UK birds spend the winter on the coast where they are joined on the east coast by birds from Norway.
In the UK, Isle of Man, and Ireland, the Oystercatcher is resident in most coastal areas. It has an "Amber" status because it is considered Vulnerable in Europe and Near Threatened globally.

Now for some orchids.
Vanda is a genus in the orchid family (Orchidaceae) which, although not massive (about eighty species), is one of the genera more commonly found in the market place. This genus and its allies are considered to be among the most specifically adapted of all orchids within Orchidaceae.
The genus is highly prized in horticulture for its showy, fragrant, long lasting, and intensely colorful flowers.
Vanda is widespread across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and New Guinea, with a few species extending into Queensland and some of the islands of the western Pacific. The genus is sometimes abbreviated as V. in the floral trade. - Wikipedia
This extended tessellation of the '4-Butterflies' is related to the 'Extended open connection 5'. So I call this new one: 'Extended Open Connection 7'.
Folded from an orange sheet of glassine, hexagon 33cm, grid 1:96.
If you want to see the progress of my 'Connection-tesselations', click here for the album, where you can see my other tessellations, all based on my "Butterfly-molecule", that underlies these tessellations.
In the female, the red on the head does not extend beyond the eye as it does in this bird. The species breeds from Europe to North Africa and Central Asia.

The favorite color of most people is blue. But red also has a lot to offer in his gradients.
Is there such a thing as being too relaxed? I had to take this blind as I was holding the camera high above her - a couple had missing heads but I managed it in the end

Peter's Pool is a kettle lake made by Franz Josef Glacier, in the Westland National Park in the South Island of New Zealand. Together with Fox Glacier—located 20 kilometres away—the glaciers extend from the Southern Alps to the valley floor less than 300 metres above sea level.
The lake was formed by melting glacial ice around 200 years ago. The water is highly reflective and provides stunning views of the glacial valley containing Franz Josef Glacier.
LENT/NIJMEGEN - Between Nijmegen and Lent makes the Waal a sharp turn. The river here on this place is very narrow. At extremely high water the River could hardly drain the riverwater in this bottle neck. Project “Ruimte voor de Waal” has solved this problem. The dyke at Lent was moved 350 meters inland. In the wide flood plain a secondary channel (Nevengeul) helped to drain the river water.

It was easier for me to make than to find them in the house.

Have a great week ahead and thank you for visiting.

A break from the images, from Tenerife.
This was taken from the bedroom window the distance this is at would normally be too far, however I was advised to purchase a x2 extender. The combination of the R5 x2 ext and the 500 f/4, this is the result, the light wasn't the best so a bit of noise, but I feel this is a great shot. I don't actually have any images of a Dunnock singing so a result all round. Its singing from our Plum Tree :)
Thanks to all who view and comment on my images, much appreciated :)

Twirling around with your eyes closed and
pointer finger extended
You can’t tell if you are spinning or
if it’s the world spinning around you
While you stand perfectly still.
Trying to remember everything connected to time and space
You can swim along the blues
Tiptoe around tiny reds and greens
Your finger reaches towards home
But can you find Rochester on a map?
Can you tell which way to Frederick Douglass’s grave?
Can you remember how to get to George Eastman’s house?
So much history everyone knows about
But where was that first set of swings you played on
and bedroom where every night you said Goodnight, Moon?

Some biologists say we change over all our cells each 7 years
But somehow there are still cells left over from when we were children.
And we know every bit of the way from Albany to Buffalo.

We are not held back by the love we didn't receive in the past, but by the love we're not extending in the present. Marianne Williamson
Following yesterday's picture, someone challenged me to do something similar but with the wings coming out of the frame too. Not easy because they are translucent, but it is possible if you have the right sort of picture to start with ie without too busy a backdrop.
Extension rings as nature morte. Setup night in my local photo club.
I apologize for the long absence. Turns out, flickr is inaccessible in China. Who knew?

Donna Nook now accounts for 1.5% of the world's grey seal population. The work of the wardens and the wildlife trust, is therefore crucial, for the future of these lovely animals.

November 2016 Supermoon setting behind the
Waldo Canyon Fire Burn Scar as the Rocky Mountains glow red/orange from the morning sunrise
Colorado Springs, CO.
At 24 hours past its peak, I suppose this is no longer really a true "Supermoon", however it was a wonderful sight to watch as I started my day ...
Note: Having taken several photos shortly after moonrise the past couple of days, I also observed that the PoV changes between moonrise and moonset such that the moon appears to rotate more than 90 degrees during its travel across the sky. This explains why the orientation of the craters often appears so different between one moon photograph and another. :)

The building is a domestic Norman dwelling, known as the Constable's House, which was built within the original castle bailey in 1160. Much of the stonework survives, including a rare example of a Norman chimney (one of only five in the country). The stone used for construction was Purbeck marble. The ground floor which has four slit windows was used as a storeroom. The upper floor, accessed by steps outside and an internal staircase, contained the main hall. It is 67 by 23 feet (20 by 7 m) in size. As well as the chimney, another notable feature is the garderobe tower, which extends over the mill stream added in the early 13th century to provide sanitary arrangements.

* It was cold and showery when we went to Loch Ness but from time to time the sun did make an appearance . It looks the best part of the day to drive round the Loch with stops for walks. Its a very long narrow Loch and the road on the southern side is single track so progress is slow . And before anyone asks we did not see the the monster frankly its as likely at Trump telling the truth
Loch Ness is a large freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extending for approximately 23 miles southwest of Inverness. It takes its name from the River Ness, which flows from the northern end..At 22 sq mi, Loch Ness is the second-largest Scottish loch by surface area after Loch Lomond, but due to its great depth it is the largest by volume in Great Britain. Its deepest point is 755 feet, making it the second deepest loch in Scotland after Loch Morar. It contains more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined,

The absence of black in the throat, and central chest points to a first fall female. Adult males will typically have black up to beneath the beak, and first fall males look a lot like adult females having some black in the throat, and central chest which doesn't extend to below the beak.
