Dentonholme North Junction signal box between the Down Goods line (in the front of the signal box) and the up Dentonholme Yard line
Dentonholme North Junction signal box was a Caledonian Railway Company type S1 design opened on 1st October 1883 by the Carlisle Goods Traffic Committee replacing Carlisle Goods Yard signal box which had opened on 7th August 1877. A replacement 55 lever Stevens & Sons/Caledonian Railway frame was installed at some time and the signal box closed on 11th February 1973 when the block section was extended to between Carlisle No3 and Rome Street Junction signal boxes

I’ve been having trouble with the 1.4x Extender I purchased to go with my new Nikon Setup. I’ve had nothing but trouble getting it to focus remotely close to where I wanted it to be. I’ve had the combo with the extender up to +15, +20 and still had it missing focus seemingly front focusing. I now think it was completely naffed and the focus was totally off. Luckily I got it with my 500mm from a local shop though the one I had was without pouch and caps?! They were taken off the one I have now and sent to me but I have my suspicions I was sold a returned one that was giving someone else a headache lol.
This shot was taken while testing in the park with the new extender, 700mm, F7.1, ISO 1600 - No Noise reduction, Cropped to 30megapixels… gotta like that.. 5Ds folks can start gloating in the summer ;)
Im still thinking the focus may be slightly forward but looking at other squirrel images I have they do always seem sharper other than bang on the eye. Tell me what you think if it looks off then I’d like to know. This was already dialled in at +10 on the Micro Adjust as I felt the 500mm on it’s own needed around that to excel wide open at close range, though Im still thinking it needs a tad more too. Gonna have to double check that one.
This is a photograph from the annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 27th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.
This photograph is part of a large set of photographs taken at the finish line area of the race. There are also some races of the buildup and the start of the race. The full set is available at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157644466844507/
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.

This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Creative Commons aims to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!

On extended visits to the desert we were required to travel with at least 5 vehicles. Driving in the desert was often dangerous. I have been stuck with all five vehicles buried to the axle in the sand, and fearful we would not be able to return to base. We always carried a satellite phone for emergencies, and each vehicle was equipment with VHF Radio. On one particularly long trip we drove deep into the desert near the Yemini border (an area referred to as the "Empty Quarter". We drove until we ran out of gas but always carried enough gas in the back of each truck to fill the tank again.
We were always well treated by the bedoin nomads we would encounter on these trips.

Part of an extensive open space network along the Dodder, Bushy Park extends to 20.5 hectares. The park originated in 1700 when Arthur Bushe of Dangan, Co. Kilkenny, Secretary to the Revenue Commissioners, built the house known as "Bushes House" on a site of 4 hectares. A John Hobson became owner in 1772 and changed the name to Bushy Park, possibly after the park in London of that name. Purchased by Abraham Wilkinson in 1791 who added almost 40 hectares to the estate, he gave it as a dowry to his daughter Maria when she married Robert Shaw in 1796. George Bernard Shaw was a distant relative, his grandfather being a nephew of Sir Robert Shaw (1st Bart). The Shaws were connected with Bushy Park for the next 155 years until 1951 when they sold the estate to Dublin Corporation.
In 1953, the Corporation sold 8 hectares to the Sisters of Religious of Christian Education but later re-acquired 2 acres of woodland in 1993. The park is noted for its woodland walks, ornamental ponds and beautiful Dodder Walk as well as catering for football, tennis boules, and children's play. Dublin City’s first public skatepark was opened in 2006 in Bushy Park. It consists of a concrete bowl surrounded with typical street elements. The park is open to skateboarders, in-line skaters and B.M.X. bikes.

This is one of the first bungalow courts. It is set in tall trees and extends in an arc around to North Oakland Avenue. Note the rustic "play house" (now glassed in) which is toward the center of the court. Two other bungalw courts of the same period -- one Mission style, and the other Craftsman -- are at 567 and 572-574 N Oakland Avenue respectively. The former is quite simple but retains the marvelous Missio style lanterns in the center of the court.

Many of the train photos on my stream were taken alongside my young son and co-pilot, whose shadow is next to me in this photo. I am glad he shares my interest in trains and photography, as it has given us many great trips and moments together.
The shadows were long on this cold winter day of 2-23-13, as a westbound BNSF train rounds the curve at Shabbonna and heads toward Lee Tower (the homestead and perch of notable railroad photographer, author, and magazine editor Mike Schafer) and beyond.

To maximize the performance of the length-constrained system, Peacekeeper used an extendable exit cone (EEC) for its 2nd and 3rd stages. The EEC translated from a stowed position to an operational position during flight, more than tripling the nozzle expansion ratio for optimal performance at altitude. In mid-1977, an EEC designed and built by Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) was successfully tested at Edwards Air Force Base as part of an early Hercules program to demonstrate advanced technology in an MX third stage. Later, Peacekeeper became the first ballistic missile system to flight test a nozzle with an EEC.
LGM-118A Peacekeeper
The Peacekeeper served as the United States Air Force's most powerful, accurate, and technologically advanced Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) deterrent. Conceived to replace the Minuteman ICBMs, its development began in the early 1970s under the name "Missile, Experimental," or MX. Later, it received the official name "Peacekeeper." The first test flight took place in 1983 at Vandenberg AFB, California. Peacekeepers became operational in 1986.
Constructed with an airframe made of a Kevlar epoxy composite, the Peacekeeper was much lighter than previous ICBMs, and it could carry more warheads. When combined with new Multiple Independently Targeted Re-entry Vehicles (MIRV) technology, one Peacekeeper could accurately deliver a number of nuclear warheads on different targets at the same time. A four-stage missile, Peacekeeper was the first Air Force ICBM to use the "cold launch" technique similar to the system used to launch missiles from submarines.
The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) II, signed in 1993 with Russia, removed all multiple-warhead ICBMs. As a result of the changed strategic world situation and START II, the United States deactivated all 50 LGM-118As between 2003 and 2005. Some Peacekeepers were eventually used as satellite launch vehicles.

Information board at Woody Bay Station (September 2021) showing plan to extend the existing stretch of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway in North Devon
Upper image is a map copied from the Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 map and represents an East-West distance of about 7 Km. The faint straight lines running obliquely from the top to bottom edges of the map run N-S, with N towards the top edge. Lynmouth and Lynton lie at the eastern (right hand) edge, and the Wistlandpound Reservoir at the western (left hand) edge. The red line traces the present route and the proposed extensions in each direction. I have marked a thick red line on the map to indicate the present working stretch of the line from Woody Bay station at the eastern end to Killington Lane at the western end, length 0.9 Km.
Middle image shows the topographic profile of the proposed reinstatement including the existing stretch. The highest point is just east of Woody Bay station itself at about 310 m above sea level.
Lower image is a satellite view of the same area as the map in the upper image, with the red line of the railway as above. The mosaic pattern consists of agricultural fields marked by hedges and fences.
--------------------
SUMMARY OF THE LINE
Originally opened in 1898, and closed in 1935, the existing stretch of line at Woody Bay is currently the beginning of a project to rebuild one of the world's most famous and picturesque narrow-gauge railways. Original gauge 1 ft 11+1⁄2 in (597 mm), now 1 ft 11+5⁄8 in (600 mm). Original length of line slightly over 19 miles (31 km). At current time, the restored line is 0.9-mile (1.4 km) long from Woody Bay, westwards to Killington Lane. Plans are in hand to extend to 9 miles (14 km) of track, linking the station at Woody Bay eastwards to Lynton (at a new terminus on an extension to the original line, closer to the town) and westwards to Blackmoor Gate, and to a new station at Wistlandpound Reservoir.
