The Transpennine Express Class 158s were fitted with a small First Class compartment, at the driving end of one coach of these two-car units. Although very worn and clearly in need of refurbishment, the travelling environment was very cosy.

The Bernina Express is an express train connecting Chur in Switzerland with Poschiavo and Tirano in Italy. The trip on the Bernina Express is a 4 hour railway journey across 196 bridges, through 55 tunnels and across the Bernina Pass on the highest point at 2,253 metres in altitude.

On Day 3, the families started the day with our annual "Walk of Gratitude" where each family member released a balloon in memory of their fallen hero on Main street in downtown Fort Worth. From there the families rode in another presidential motorcade to Sheriffs Posse Ranch in Weatherford where they were treated to a day of fun to include a rodeo, horse drawn carriage rides, and taught how to rope a calf! From there they headed to Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base for a special concert by Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band in the VR-39 Hangar!

Snowball Express remembers those fallen heroes who will never return, and honors the supreme sacrifice their families have made.

Since 2006, the mission of Snowball Express has been a simple, yet profoundly important one: Provide hope and new happy memories to the children of military fallen heroes who have died while on active duty since 9/11. We bring children together from all over the world to the Dallas Fort Worth, Texas area for a four-day experience filled with fun activities. Snowball Express serves the children who will never be reunited with their mom or dad.

The Great Central Railway Winter Steam Gala 2014

Snowball Express XI was a great success as we welcomed nearly 1800 children and families of our fallen military heroes to Dallas for a week full of activities!

Beginning with the arrival of our generously donated charter flights by presenting sponsor American Airlines with all volunteer flight crews from all over the country, the families were taken by Greyhound motor coach and Patriot Guard escort to our host hotel, the Hilton Anatole Dallas. The hotel was filled with activities in the Teen and children lounges, and in the Gallo family lounge for the adults.

Day one began with our police and patriot guard escort to Fort Worth, completely shutting down highway 30 with a 48 school bus precession. Firefighters from Arlington lined the overpasses to wave and salute our families!

After arriving in Fort Worth, the annual Walk of Gratitude was held at the famous Fort Worth Stock Yards. The families were then treated to the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show at the Cowtown Coliseum. From there our families were taken to the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base for a private concert by Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band in a Hangar on base. Gary put on a great show as always for the families and then handed out teddy bears for all the children. Food was provided by Texas Land and Cattle, and prepared with the help of Chef Robert Irvine.

Day 2 included a fun day at four separate game centers around DFW. That evening everyone enjoyed a great dinner and entertainment at Medieval Times Show & Dinner.

The third day included our annual Talent Showcase presented by the Texas Music Project, followed by another amazing closing show by our Chief Fun Officer, David Hira.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers who help make this amazing week of tributes possible for these special families who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Please visit www.snowballexpress.org to see how you can help sponsor of volunteer for the 2017 event!

Pony Express Station Simpson Springs - Tooele County, Utah

This Pony Express station bears the name of explorer Captain James H. Simpson, a Camp Floyd topographical engineer, who stopped here in 1858 while laying out an overland mail route between Salt Lake City and California. The availability of excellent water made Simpson Springs one of the most prominent stations in the West Desert.

George Chorpenning established his second mail station at this site in 1858, which was later used by the Pony Express and the Overland Stage.
