La meilleure idée de cette exposition est, à mon sens, d'avoir utilisé le vaste espace du bosquet de l'Étoile, autrefois appelé "Montagne d'eau", laissé à l'état de prairie naturelle après la reprise du dessin d'origine à la suite de la tempête de 1999.
Voici le cartouche apposé à l'entrée du bosquet:
"Le bosquet de l'Étoile apparaît comme une chambre, un espace fermé que l'on découvre avec un effet de surprise. Alors que dans le grand axe les sculptures sont distantes les unes des autres, il y a dans le bosquet concentration, confrontation directe d'une œuvre à l'autre. On peut voir cette installation de sept sculptures comme une réflexion sur l'arbre, sa croissance, son mouvement, son équilibre. Un arbre fixe dans sa structure chaque instant de son existence, et la forme de son développement correspond à une nécessité vitale. Dans un arbre, il n'y a pas une seule branche inutile. Ce qui est sec ou mort, donc inutile à la survie est mémorisé dans le bois. Pour moi, cela fait de l'arbre une sculpture parfaite, de forme et de matière stables, qui répond à une nécessité. Chaque sculpture devrait être conçue ainsi. L'arbre, dans ce sens est exemplaire"

Students’ Fine Art Work Helped ONU Win a Metal at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition
President H.S. Lehr tirelessly worked to promote his school whenever and however possible. In 1893 as new buildings on campus were completed and major events like the Campbell-McKinley debate were held, another opportunity to advertise the university arose in the form of a letter from the United States commissioner of education. The request solicited a university exhibit for the upcoming World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
The exhibit was to be the work of students and not a museum display. A number of faculty members thought it unwise, if not hopeless, to compete with larger and more prestigious institutions. However, the trustees, a body which consisted of President Lehr and Professors John Park, Frederick Maglott and Warren Darst, disagreed.
The university at the time was organized into eleven independent departments: Literary, Commercial, Engineering, Military, Law, Musical, Telegraphic, Stenographic, Pharmaceutic, Elocutionary and Fine Art. Although some departments did not participate, it was still possible to secure a representative sampling of student work. The exhibit eventually consisted of student essays, geography maps, fine herbarium, blue prints, projection drawings, analytical figures and fine art paintings.
The department of fine art, lead by Prof. Albert Rogall, was committed to Lehr’s vision of creating an exhibit at the exposition. Prof. Rogall, who fought in the Civil War, came to Ada about 1882 to teach fine arts. In 1885, he was appointed an instructor of painting, drawing and architecture, and was highly successful.
About 350 students were enrolled in the fine art department in 1893, but only one student graduating, Elsie McDowell from Nankin, Ohio. According to the catalog, courses offered through the department included drawing (freehand, perspective, mechanical, bridge-building), painting (landscape, crayon, pastel), ornamental penmanship, and lettering-freehand. Tuition was $3 per term for drawing courses; $5 per term for mechanical and industrial drawing courses, and $10 per term for all other courses (crayon drawing, water color, oil painting, India ink and Poonah painting).
As the planning for the exhibit transpired, Prof. Rogall selected several student paintings for inclusion. As Lehr noted, “The teachers of English had their students write essays, those studying geography prepared maps, Prof. Rogall selected some fine paintings prepared by his art students...”
As the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago took place, the doubting Thomases could have saved themselves a good deal of worry. The exhibit was one of only four from Ohio colleges, and it was well received. The materials prepared by Mrs. Maglott and her students were of particular interest to the Awards Committee. Mrs. Maglott, teacher of higher mathematics, had her students prepare intricate figures in analytics worked out by silk threads and fine steel wires.
As a result of the tremendous effort of the faculty and students, the Awards Committee presented the university a ribbon and a bronze medal for the presentation.
Lehr, always quick to seize an opportunity, incorporated a picture of the ribbon into the cover of the university catalog for several years. The medal appeared on the university letterhead.

Echec et mat. Obsession de ses débuts, les échecs. On les trouve partout et sous toutes leurs formes, comme ces échecs volants…
J'y suis allée pour me changer un peu de la visite historique et du concours académique. Beaucoup de photos prises de tubes lumineux et de traces de liquides, peintures, encres et autre détergents...Pas transcendant...même si quelques effets sympathiques. Préféré ses petits arbres couverts de punaises et teintées...même si là encore, cela ne m'a pas enthousiasmée...L'artiste était bordelais mais avait vécu et exposé à Londres et dans des lieux manifestement très cotés...Ce qui m'a laissé dubitative tant j'ai l'impression d'une vaste supercherie dont chaque oeuvre vaut entre 400 et 600 euros minimum...J'étais un peu effarée. Quand je pense le temps et la technique qu'il faut pour peindre un tableau de qualité bien construit et sur motif, contrasté et coloré et que là, il lui a juste fallu faire un clic avec son appareil sur des liquides renversés mélangés à trois tubes luminescents...pour se faire exposer "art contemporain"...j'ai dû rater un épisode dans l'approche réellement artistique. Et l'artiste de me préciser qu'il ne retouchait pas ses photos sous photoshop! Il y avait dans sa remarque enrichie d'une étiquette à chaque photo, quelque chose que j'ai trouvé presque risible. Car devoir prouver sa bonne foi pour que la photographie passe pour artistique et non trafiquée, montrait seulement que le contenu était bancal et artificiel, pas du tout authentique. Mais ce monsieur est certainement côté et vend certainement une bonne partie de ses oeuvres depuis fort longtemps. Mais j'arrive pas à adhérer à ce genre de chose. Ni au système qui cautionne ce genre de démarche commerciale abusive. Si je lui mettais un pinceau entre les mains en lui demandant de peindre une perspective, il me regarderait d'un air effaré sans savoir comment s'y prendre. Alors que moi, même en prenant des photos identiques aux siennes, je n'oserais pas aller présenter les photos comme de l 'art ni tenter d'en vivre. J'aurais l'impression de berner les gens, de les arnaquer et de trahir ce qu'est véritablement l'art et les artistes.
Sans doute la querelle des anciens et des modernes, me répondront les partisans du conceptuel et autres nouveaux réalistes...Pour moi, l'art procède d'une véritable technique, d'un savoir-faire, d'une réalisation véritablement technique de l'artiste. Pas d'un cliché avec 3 tubes luminescents, un peu de glace ou de peinture répandue... Question d'honnêteté, d'honneur pourrais-je dire et d'authenticité.

This is an exposition of photos that have been made by the "Fotowerkgroep" in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel of which I am a member.
The exposition is part of a project to promote volunteer work in the community. Eight pictures can be admired in the town hall. Each shows the text "I am volunteer!" and depicts the kind of work the person does.
On the photo above is one of my colleague photographers of the workgroup.
For the first time, some of my photos have been exposed in a public space. That's a great thing!

It will be officially opened tonight by a famous and also local politician in Holland.
I will keep my fingers crossed about what our locals have to say about my photo's.
