Quit coal - Greenpeace tells Indonesia’s Energy Minister Greenpeace today took direct action to expose the true cost of coal at Cilacap coal plant on Central Java’s south coast. Greenpeace is denouncing the faulty projections by Indonesia’s Energy ministry to justify the building of new coal plants that do not take into account so-called "external costs" such as respiratory diseases, mining accidents, acid rain, smog pollution, reduced agricultural yields and climate change.
Early this morning, 40 Greenpeace activists and local community representatives, wearing white masks to symbolise the health risks to local communities, chained themselves to the gates of the Cilacap coal plant.

I'm now convinced my toothache problems are down to an exposed nerve somewhere! I was pain free till I stupidly decided to have a whippy ice cream this afternoon.
Now I'm waiting for the tablets to kick in again! Ouch!!

Take a moment to look at the untidy background to this photo. Awful isn't it? Alternate angles provide much nicer views. But this one is a good exposé of the condition of Tørshavn and the struggle with the Føroyar identity.
The grim prison-like blockhouse is Býraðið, first a school and then a town hall from the 1950s. It is now the municipal offices.The brutal balustrade and the naïve scrollwork below suggests the same decade as its becoming a town hall. Now look lower to the modernistic seats and garbage bin. This is the conflict in Tørshavn. Everywhere there are turf roofed buildings and photos of good old Tørshavn. Then there is the discordant intrusuion of the ultra-modern. Who will win? The modern is jarring against a primæval landscape of mountains and sea. Except Tørshavn is flatter. A more modern city will just make it even less desirable than those wide open, silent, thoughtful places that set Føroyar apart.

The styles couldn't be much more different. But here's the thing. There's a lot of this lifting up of stones business. You might suppose with so many rocks about that picking them up isn't so unusual. Returning to Mikladalur there's a whole wall dedicated to Marjun's lifting stone. It all gets a bit surreal. Marjun was an unwed, pregnant milkmaid. This was enough to get you killed. So, she picks up a big rock, Marjunar Hav. That appears to be that. There are no recorded consequences. I guess picking up rocks and then just getting on with life is an allegory for Faroese life. Hefting rocks is handy if you need rocks moved, otherwise it's a bit pointless.
This was a very exposed campsite at 10,000 feet considering the intense lightning storm that was about to ensue.
Segment 2 is a very dry and exposed section of the Colorado Trail. In 1996 the Buffalo Creek fire destroyed the pine forests and turned a portion of segment 2 into an arid, almost desert like environment. An unexpected area within the mountains of Colorado. But Segment 2 doesn't start until reacquiring the South Platte River and that was still almost 8 miles away.
After a restful night of sleep I awoke sometime after 6. I lingered in camp until 8 and then started hiking. Took a few pictures before my first break at some rocks with a nice overlook. I thought this was the 'ridge' as listed in my Colorado Trail Atlas, which is the high point before descending to the South Platte. I was not as far as I though I was but it was a nice place for a break after more than an hour of hiking. I took some zoomed in pictures of houses on far away mountains as well as Littleton. The scenery was beginning to be fantastic. There was a campsite behind the rocks, but no nearby water source.
I left this spectacular viewpoint and wandered past the 'ridge' approximately 45 minutes later. It seemed like I was moving slow. It took about 3 hours to hike less than 4 miles, including the break. It was mostly uphill though.
Finally going downhill, toward Segment 2 and the South Platte. Of course, there were nice views along the way including a peak or two of the river. There seemed to be about 50 switchback but going downhill I was hiking much quicker ... 3.9 miles in about 1 1/2 hours. It was 1250 and about 90f, the South Platte Canyon Trailhead was a welcome break.
It was already hot (and promised to be hotter through the burn area) so I took a nice long break, about 2 1/2 hours. The trailhead is on a dirt road, but there were plenty of cars here. One of the hikers from the night before caught a ride into town to reorganize and possibly come back out. There is also a privy here.

Britannia Wood in Downend. On the 6th of November 1957 a prototype Bristol Britannia (G-ANCA) crashed into the disused Cleeve Hill Quarry & Woodland on Overndale Road narrowing missing the houses and near by stable.
As Singapore becomes a developed country, she has attained both stability and sustainability. Despite the Government’s tireless efforts to serve the people and solve their problems, the living cost remains relatively high especially in the areas of public housing, transportation and food prices. As such many lower income groups in Singapore face greater difficulty in coping with the high standard of living. These six photographs, created based on the voices of the people, reveal their sorrow as they make do with just the basic necessities that ensure their survival in Singapore. Hopefully the current situation would be further improved and less people would be victims of the rising living cost.
