Mystery still surrounds the exact source of a loud explosion in Derry which was heard almost ten miles outside the city. A security alert was mounted in Spencer Road, Moore Street, Fountain Hill and the surrounding areas in the City's Waterside following reports of an explosion and at least one report of masked men having been spotted in the area.
However confusion remains after it transpired that at around the same time, a lorry on Derry's Cityside - Just across The River Foyle - suffered a blow out in which two tyres are believed to have exploded with such force that windows in surrounding properties were shattered.
The operation in the Waterside was scaled back allowing residents to return to their homes at lunchtime on Wednesday but the search of nearby waste shrubland and an area known locally as the quarry steps could take several more days as PSNI search for anything ontoward.

This once beautiful house suffered a gas explosion tonight at around 9:50pm. There was a young couple and their baby inside at the time. They escaped and were taken to the hospital.

Shortly after 11.15am today, Tuesday 26 June 2012, police were called to Shaw following a report that homes had been seriously damaged in a large explosion.
Police, fire and ambulance services are at the scene and a cordon remains in place.
Police can confirm a young child has died and a man has been taken to hospital suffering from significant burns.
Efforts are ongoing to establish whether any other people are trapped.
Superintendent Neil Evans said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family of the child who has tragically died.
"We understand this tragedy has caused a lot of upset and shock in the close-knit community of Shaw. We are in the very early stages of an investigation but our priority at the moment is to try and reach anyone who may be caught up in the explosion.
"Three properties have been involved in a major explosion, and a large-scale response involving the emergency services and other agencies is in place.
"The child's family has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained police officers.
"Another man has been taken to hospital, where he is being treated for what are understood to be 80% burns.
"We are working with Oldham Council to make arrangements for those who may need to remain evacuated.
"This is an ongoing search and rescue operation, and more information will be released when it is available."

My 1st BACON EXPLOSION. It wasn't as pretty as the ones I saw here, 67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=325570
Nevertheless it still tasted pretty good. I got a little carried away with my sausage. I used 3 lbs when I should have stayed with 2 lbs. I learned from my mistakes and so if there is a next time I will know what to improve on. I used three cheese, year old cheddar, extra sharp cheddar, and smoked Gouda. I cooked up 4 slices of bacon and broke it up and along with the cheese rolled it up in the sausage.
I used mild and hot sausage. I seasoned the sausage with some cilantro, Sweet Mesquite seasoning a little cinnamon and some Kentucky Bourbon. I sprinkled some brown sugar & smoked paprika and a little home made barbq sauce on the bacon before I put the sausage on top of it. After I rolled her all up, I slathered it all over with my homemade bourbon and molasses BarBQ sauce. Then I smoked it a little more than 4 hours. Now I didn't say she would be pretty, but she sure was good. I will work on making her pretty next time, lol.

HazMat crew on computer checking out the building and surrounding buildings with a google type / satellite search.
A loud Expolsion KA-BOOOM .....About 12:40am shook my house in South L.A. About 4 miles east of me I saw a orange glow in the sky and my son and I grabbed our cameras and headed toward the glow. A warehouse owned by L. A. United Alloys was on fire and it was full of titanium. The more the fire dept. soaked the place with water the more intense the flames got, some times a bright white. After being there for about 2 1/2 hr. I left and got out of my truck to walk back into my house and KA-BOOM-KA-BOOOM again. This time there were injuries. The two blast back to back showered firefighters and engines with molten bits of titanium. The concussion of the blast knocked out some of the windows of the fire vehicles. Hey I tip my hat to yall. You FIRE EXTINGUISHERS do a gr8 job.
