MS Select Explorer, 125 m long river cruise ship built in the Netherlands in 2001 and refurbished in 2010, operated by Select Voyages, here seen passing the Apollo Bridge on the River Danube in Bratislava.

Wild mix yesterday. Explored Squadratinhos around Erndtebrück which resulted in quite a bit bushwhacking. Tried my new iPhone 17 Pro camera out and compared it to my 15 Pro and my Olympus OMD E-M5. And did some Tempo and Threshold work on the bike in-between.

The improvements between 15 Pro and 17 Pro camera are much welcome. Full resolution now also for ultra wide angle and the tele and the 100 mm full frame equivalent tele (4x) is much welcome and better than the 3x on the 15 Pro. The front facing camera unfortunately doesn’t benefit from the new 18 MP sensor since the resolution / pixel size of the normal setting stays the same. Only for the „wide“ setting it get’s bigger but also covers a bit more field of view. Which is nice.

The Cannonball Tree is a native of Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka or South America and grows well in our tropical northern Australian climate.

The tree is deciduous and large, 50-80 feet. It is said to have special significance in the Buddhist religion.

The amazingly complex flower of the Cannonball Tree is also heavenly scented - a cross between a fine expensive perfume and a wonderful flower scent (remotely like ylang ylang)

The reason the tree is called cannonball is after flowering, large brown fruit balls are formed in the size and shape of cannonballs. I believe that these are toxic.

Große Mausohr Fledermaus im Winterquartier. Dieses streng geschützte Tier und einige seiner Artgenossen habe ich zufällig gefunden und konnte nicht widerstehen es zu fotografieren. Da ich mich sehr leise verhalten habe und auch ohne Blitz fotografierte, hat es auch keinen Schaden genommen. Ich habe anschließend den Fund bei den zuständigen Stellen gemeldet um etwas zum Schutze dieser liebenswerten Tiere beitragen zu können.

I stumble across a bat winter ground in a abandoned factory. This is one of a lot greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis), a strictly protected species. I shot a lot of photos, but all without flash. Only long exposure a with the light of a halide lamp and my Tokina macro lens. The bats will not be desturbed.

Launched on November 11, 1935, from Rapid City, South Dakota, Explorer II carried Captain Albert Stevens, Captain Orvil Anderson, and an assortment of instruments to a world record altitude of 22,066 meters (72,395 feet).

A guy I know on Flickr (and have met IRL) got a photo on Explore. Then he put up an image on his photostream showing the stats that resulted. Then THAT image got on Explore. :-)
