I don't know how much I'll be able to be on Flickr except to post some photos because my hip surgery is taking place on Feb. 9th and I have a lot of things to do. I'll stop in whenever possible but I know that I will miss a lot of photos. Right now I want to spend time getting things ready, spend time with my family, and my dogs. I hope you all understand. Hopefully I'll have a chance to let everyone know how I'm doing after I get home from the hospital. I'll do that as soon as possible. Obviously it will be awhile before I can come back to Flickr in full force. I wish you all a very nice week and want to thank you all for being such great friends here on Flickr. Lots of love and hugs!

I'm sorry that I am posting so many photos. I just have so many and I want to have more on here for the Cincinnati Zoo. You certainly don't have to comment on them because I can't promise that I'll be able to visit your beautiful photostreams consistently for awhile. I'll miss seeing all your beautiful photos and talking with you all. Thanks everyone!

Was riding back from work when I noticed that an Explore was sat outside my Sons School. Driver had popped into Tesco opposite to get Son munch for his travels.

I shot a lot this week in Destin. I don't have much time to post but here's one I hope you enjoy!

Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests ecoregion, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve's name translates as Kingdom of the Lion.

The reserve is only 21 km (13 mi) from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km (4.3 mi) from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants and the 15 or so leopards are rarely seen. The most common larger mammal is the endemic Purple-faced Langur.

An interesting phenomenon is that birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless Greater Racket-tailed Drongo and the noisy Orange-billed Babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie.

Reptiles include the endemic Green pit viper and Hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic Common Birdwing butterfly and the inevitable leeches.

Sinharaja national park was another delight of our Sri Lanka adventure - a dense tropical rainforest which we explored on foot. So many things to see there!

I decided to explore the redwoods for 6 days and I did, hitting 5 redwood state parks and 16 groves. But, for me, none of these parks are as majestical and awe-inspiring as Jedediah Smith. Overall, the trees are the biggest I have seen in any of the parks. Colossal mammoths that make you seem small, and you realize you really are...

I drove in very excited, as if I was the kid entering Disneyland. This was not the first time I had been here, but I find the park never gets old, no matter how many times I visit. As soon as I was surrounded by these old tranquil giants, I stopped the car and got out. I laid in the middle of the road and just stared at the incredible beauty above me. It was quiet. It was perfect... After a few minutes, a car began to approach my spot. I got up as fast as I could-which is not very fast these days-and walked to the edge of the road. The occupants of the car had seen me in the road and when they passed, they just smiled and waved, as if they just knew what I was doing. Once the car passed I noticed this beautiful scene and captured it, for all to see...

Don't miss Jedediah Smith Park, it's such a gem!
