Here is my first (serious) Close-up Strobist...This is one of the photos we had the Workshop in the Swansea University.

This is one of the photos we had the Workshop in the Swansea University. A big credit to Marc Holmes, the president of Swansea Photography Society, who initiate the workshop and deal with plenty of set-up. Tom Littlehead and Elsa Morgan who also made a great contribution on the set-up on that day...

It is not perfect but I really want to see how you think about this...... So, anyone has some suggestions, I would be more than appreciate....

If you want to see the setup photo. Feel free to click HERE

Strobist info:

Your comments, feedbacks and suggestions would be more than appreciate ;)

P.S. Sorry, I mess up quite a lot on my photostream. I still love to try on a lot of things. So Please bare with me!!!

This is by far my favorite since I''ve started with my high speed photo hobby.

It was also the most dangerous and difficult to setup and clean. Bullets will go wild when they hit the water, no way to predict wher they will go :( The amount of the water sprayed around was unbelievable. Covering all the high voltage electronics and camera equipment took more than one hour and much more time required to clean up the mess.

Love the lights that seem to explode in the upper part of the image

First try creating an exploding orb in the back yard using light painting tools. I'll make some improvements next time, but I'm happy with this for now.

For the orb I used a home-made rectangular acrylic blade that was edge-lit by a color-changing flashlight in strobe mode. The "fire" was created with a 15" tri-color light saber, and the ground waves with a home-made wand consisting of a clear plastic tube in which I inserted a string of tiny LED lights set to change color. The starbursts are made by pointing a standard flashlight directly at the camera for a couple seconds. All done in a single exposure of 166 seconds. The design is about 8 feet in height, to give you an idea of the scale. You don't see me because I'm wearing black clothes and moving around, which makes me virtually invisible during the long exposure.

Hello,

Thanks for all the comment and checking out this shot. After reading some of the comment I feel like I should tell a little about this photo. This was take on my most recent trip to Hawaii, Hawaii (original name of island) also known as the Big Island, Hawaii. This was shot out of a four door helicopter with no doors. That's right no doors because it was the only tour on the island that had this feature and for the life of me at the time it seemed like a great idea. My thought was that with less obstructions I can get a clean shot. What I didn't plan on is being kicked around by the wind while having a wide angle strapped to my neck and a telephoto to my right hand. By the way; the only thing that hold you in place is a seat belt that is very similar to a car seat belt, and when the helicopter makes a sharp turn in your direction you have a beautiful view of straight down and some flash backs reflecting on your life. The biggest concern though was making sure my equipment didn't slip away from me and to get as many shots as possible because the movement of the helicopter with the wind make it very hard to focus and shoot. Over all it was a great experience that I would recommend for the thrill seekers and one that I would do again. I would definitely recommend against going right before a large storm because I almost lost my ND filter and a camera body from getting wet.

Focal length: 210mm F:18 ISO:800

Saw these tiny dandelions sprouts on the ground with a vibrant yellow color. They are about to explode any time. I need to stock up some tissues from Costco quickly.

Two stars will merge in 2022 and explode into red fury

Get ready for a big nova event ( Prediction)

This is great news for space fans .Also i'd already posted about Supernova.

“We don’t know if it’s right or wrong, but it’s the first time we can make a prediction,” Molnar says. At 2nd magnitude, it’ll be easy if it see if the prediction was correct.

“You won’t need a telescope in 2022 to tell me if I was wrong or I was right,” he says

In 2022, there will be a spectacular sky show. Two stars will merge into one, pushing out excess gas into an explosion known as a red nova. At magnitude 2, it will be as bright as Polaris in the sky, and just behind Sirius and Vega in brightness. The collision in the constellation of Cygnus will be visible for up to six months.

That’s pretty impressive. What’s more impressive: we’ve never been able to predict a nova before. But Lawrence Molnar, a professor of astronomy and physics at Calvin College, was able to find a pair of oddly behaving stars giving an indication of what might happen.

The objects, termed KIC 9832227, are currently contact binaries. Contact binary refers to two objects that are so close they are currently touching. The object was discovered by Kepler. The expected outcome is a merger between the two stars that will put on quite a show. Because both are low mass stars, the expected temperature is low, with Molnar terming it a “red nova.”

how does Molnar know what will happen? After all, as he puts it, it’s “a very specific prediction that can be tested, and a big explosion.” He and his team First observed in 2008, astronomers were able to watch the light curve as the event unfolded. First, there were a few “booms” in the sky. Then, a spectacular light show unfolded. Using precovery data, astronomers were able to trace back the evolution from 2001 on, giving a big picture of the decade of progression of the event.

How did they know it was a merging star?

“V1309 was (brightening) before the explosion,” Molnar said in a press conference at the 229th meeting of the American Astronomical Society. “It isn’t doing it today. That’s the smoking gun of a merging star.”

Using Kepler data, Molnar found that KIC 9832227 fit the lightcurve of V1309 almost perfectly. All radial velocity measurements seem to indicate a contact binary, and by aligning the light curve to the period in time, he and his team came to the conclusion that the merger would complete in 2022.

This again does not involve photoshop. This is another one of those long exposure photography. We are setting a long exposure about 6 seconds in this. Keeping the standard zoom lens at Tele mode and then just after clicking the shutter button, we turn the lens to wide mode. Keeping in mind that exposure at wide mode is more than the tele. This gives the explode effect to the image

Visit the inside of Waddesdon Manor and you'll catch this very unique sculpture.

In my 4 years of shooting landscapes I never came across an explosive foreground such as this one although I wish I could somehow capture extreme images such as a exploding volcano in my lifetime, I have to contend myself on geysers instead. That's the beauty of traveling to different places just to shoot landscapes. You can experience first hand how nature works its magic around us. A better appreciation of our surroundings and being more aware of the inner beauty within our planet. This why shooting landscapes is so rewarding. Dream big and make them a reality.

Here we see the second stage lighting up after the booster separates.

I know I've been posting more than my usual posts. But a sunrise like this still gets my heart racing and the excitement shoots up like crazy.

This was taken yesterday....my first outing for the year. Lets hope 2015 produces some awesome skies for some great photo opportunities.

Thanks to all of you for your time, comments and favs. Truly appreciated..

Happy 4th of July everybody! There's no better way to start the day then with a fireworks shot over Cinderellas Castle. What I love about this shot is that it screams July 4th. You have the red fireworks with the blue castle with the white stars. It doesn't get any better then this. I hope everybody has a safe holiday weekend.

Sunset shot at Desa Parkcity, merged using 4 different exposures, blended using luminosity mask in PS. Shot with 6-stops ND filter. No element had been superimposed.

photo made with a7 and Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 50/1.4. This cine lens was used on the Pentaflex AK 16. Great lens, centre is sharp wide open, exquisite bokeh and covers the FF sensor!

A quick run to the beach after I had finished my chores this afternoon to capture sunset , at last a sunset on a weekend when I was able to get out lol.

There was a heavy shorebreak generating lots of spray in the air not to mention a bootfull lol
