The day following the expulsion of Oct. 5, a demonstration took place in the front of the Ministère de la Crise du Logement to denounce the conditions of the police intervention. After what they had endured at night, it was a release for many people and spirits were high !

 

Today, Oct. 9, these people, including women and children, are still camping out on the sidewalks of the Rue de la Banque.

Le Roi des Aulnes (Erlkönig en allemand) est un poème de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe écrit en 1782. La créature évoquée dans le poème est un Erlkönig (roi des Aulnes), personnage représenté dans un certain nombre de poèmes et ballades allemandes comme une créature maléfique qui hante les forêts et entraîne les voyageurs dans la mort.

Par une nuit d'orage, un père chevauche, à travers une forêt sombre, avec son jeune fils dans ses bras. L'enfant croit voir dans l'obscurité la forme du roi des Aulnes et il est effrayé. Le père calme son fils : ce qu'il voit n'est que « le brouillard qui traîne ». Mais la figure fantomatique ne quitte pas l'enfant. Avec un discours persuasif, le roi des Aulnes invite le « gentil enfant » à venir dans son royaume pour se distraire avec ses filles. Mais l'enfant est agité. Encore une fois le père essaie de trouver une explication naturelle à ses hallucinations : ce ne serait que le bruissement des feuilles et le reflet d'arbres centenaires. Mais la vision est plus menaçante, et le fils est pris de panique. Lorsque le roi des Aulnes saisit l'enfant, le père perd son sang-froid et essaie de galoper aussi vite qu'il peut pour atteindre la ferme. Mais il y arrive trop tard : l'enfant est mort dans ses bras.

On Oct. 18 and 19, 2008, a series of demonstrations took place at the Invalides during the JSI (Interior Security Days): elite groups such as the GIGN, the RAID or the BRI performed anti-terrorism, hostage rescue operations while equipment was being exhibited to the public.

From June 23 to 29, 2009, hundreds of people gathered in Calais for the "No Border camp", aiming to highlight the realities of the situation in Calais and Northern France; to build links with the migrant communities; to help build links between migrants support groups ; and lastly, but not least, to challenge the authorities on the ground, to protest against increased repression of migrants and local activists alike. The week should culminate with a demonstration in Calais on Saturday 27.

 

Concerned with the potential violence and civil disobedience actions, and traumatized by the events in Strasbourg during the recent NATO summit, the authorities had deployed a massive security force: more than 2500 police officers, horses and dogs, water canons, helicopters, etc. All demonstrators were body searched, occupants of the camp were stopped for ID controls, and the local media warned the population of likely violence and vandalism.

 

In the end, only 2000 demonstrators showed up and marched peacefully, and while the authorities praised themselves for the deterrence effect of their security scheme, many inhabitants were left wondering whether this was really the best use of their taxes !

Je venais de découvrir que la visite de « Westminster Abbey » coutait 30 £ — et qu’il y était interdit de prendre des photos — quand, par curiosité, nous nous introduisîmes dans ce temple méthodiste, situé à proximité. Pas certain si les visites étaient permises, nous tombâmes sur un personnage, très accueillant, qui nous offrit une visite, avec descriptions et explications. Nous sautâmes sur l’occasion, ce qui me donna l’opportunité de faire plusieurs photos. Celle-ci, presque parfaitement symétrique, représente l’escalier principal de l’édifice.

 

I had just discovered that the visit of "Westminster Abbey" was costing £ 30 - and that it was forbidden to take pictures - when, out of curiosity, we entered in the Methodist church, located nearby. Not sure if the visits were allowed, we came upon a character, very friendly, who gave us a tour, with descriptions and explanations. We jumped at the opportunity, which gave me the opportunity to make several photos. This almost perfectly symmetrical one represents the main staircase of the building.

Concept: The 21th century ethos (if my arms are not being stretched too far calling the (post)modern egobehaviour that way) should be contingent: i.e. era dependant, fogged with that rational individualism occidentally self-declared as "envied of". But what happens with mundane Events, still parented with the mentioned ethos (at least that's what we think), but left defenseless to Casuality (which is, of course, the domain of Vitality, Nature, the Unspoken (as in "beyond the human"))? Does Reality beyond our eye (and mind) exist, and if it does (and it's uncontaminated), why do we keep pumping our synapses further into issues not in our reach (absolutely not)? Like accidents, for example.

 

Background: Unwordly phenomenons (accidents), ah, not ours, unrational, not structured, Events, ever foreign, "unexistant", right? They were never in the palm of our hand (even if more than frequently veiled with pseudorational religious (and scientific) explanations (and explications). But it's Casuality "playing" with our centripedal ego (the all-knowing God after God died by our rational weapons), seizing us (and not the other way around, Kantian child).

 

Manipulation info: Again a shot overlayered with a couple of textures (some made by myself with brushes). The sky is a collage of clouds, the lower portion with the breast a shot of an unknown model of mine (?;)) and the playground too an old shot from the mount Slavnik. The man being fired off (accident) was brushed in and motion blured.

 

I'd really like to apologize for my obvious absence on Flickr to all my friends here, especially those that never miss to support my works. Ce contraste, de style et d’époque, est tout à fait fortuit, en voici l’explication: Pendant les guerres de religion, les armées catholiques et protestantes se disputèrent le château, qui fut même assiégé un temps par Henri IV. Cette longue période de troubles laissa le château fortement endommagé et inhabitable, jusqu’en 1600 année qui marque le début de la reconstruction. Le premier duc de Brissac confia les travaux à son architecte Jacques Corbineau et ensemble, ils décidèrent d’élever un vaste château-palais en lieu et place de l’ancienne forteresse. Les ouvriers se mirent à l’œuvre en démolissant l’ancien édifice au fur et à mesure qu’ils construisaient le nouveau. Mais la mort du premier duc en 1621 a pour conséquence l’arrêt brutal et définitif du chantier qui ne sera jamais achevé par ses successeurs. Les deux tours vouées à la démolition subsistèrent, tandis que l’aile droite ne sera jamais construite et voilà pourquoi la porte d’entrée n’est pas au centre de la façade. Le grand-père de l’actuel propriétaire usait d’une formule pour résumer l’histoire de sa demeure, il disait : Brissac est « un château neuf à demi-construit dans un château vieux à demi-détruit ».

I'm pretty sure this was a drag-court event downtown. A quiet evening, we circulated, ate, cheered on the performers, and smoffed with a few of my well-dressed pals.

 

My drug test came back negative. My dealer sure has some explaining to do!

 

Je suis presque sûr que c'était un événement du Nouvel An sur le terrain de reine-drag au centre-ville. Une soirée tranquille, nous avons circulé, mangé, encouragé les artistes et fumé avec quelques-uns de mes copains bien habillés.

HAPPY WINDOW WEDNESDAY(S) !!

There are 3 high-up windows, 3 chimneys and 3 "S-End" reinforcing rods.

 

Mystery:

On the lower right, there is a mysterious structural transition.

A highly regular brick structure stops, and the irregular stone structure starts.

1. Maybe there was some kind of very thin brick (or imitation brick) facade that was overlaid on the irregular stone wall but has mostly fallen away.

2. Looking again, closer, I have another explanation. Part of the stone wall fell down. It was replaced by brick and mortar. In support of this, I can see some cement patches at the transition from the stone to the brick. But why does the brick look so hazy? Maybe it became coated with some kind of adherent dust when things got dry after a rain storm.

3. See Suzanne's comment below for maybe the best explication of the mystery.
