I should explain....this was based on a tutorial on the NAPP website called 'Animated Trace Lines' The tutorial used a _car_ but I wondered what it would like like with a spider...second part of the experiment was convincing photoshop to export the thing as an animated gif, and the third part was getting the animation to play on flickr. What I found was that (I think) , the image is converted to jpeg for all sizes except original. The original remains a gif for some reason and thus remains animated...
(an overview of the process is to create a line drawing and then create a layer mask to only show a portion. In photoshop extended, layer mask location can be keyframed and 'tweened' - so the image below is about 2.5 seconds and the layer mask starts off to the left and finishes off to the right...repeat)

As Nikhil explains in his blog post, the research team regularly goes out in the field to gain “good insight into what it takes to keep the components up there running under optimum conditions. Talking to field engineers, understanding maintenance requirements and collecting the crucial bit of field data enables us to validate, fine tune and mature technologies that we are working on back at the India technology center.”
