Twenty three civilian professionals from a broad spectrum of carrier fields and expertise and from across the United States received overview briefings from several U.S. Navy organizations in Norfolk, Va., Aug. 28, 2015, during their week long Secretary of Defense Senior Leader Engagement Program (SLEP) running August 23-29, 2015. SLEP is an outgrowth of the Joint Civilian Orientation Conference (JCOC), the oldest public liaison program in DoD. Participants in the Senior Leader Engagement Program are guests of the Secretary of Defense and attend briefings by senior military and civilian officials at the Pentagon. Since 1948, DoD has conducted 84 programs for 6,700 prominent U.S. business, community, and educational leaders. The mission of the Senior Leader Engagement Program is to increase public understanding of national defense by enabling American business and community leaders to directly observe and engage with the U.S. military. SLEP offers unprecedented exposure to senior Defense officials, Service members and military training exercises. Participants are guests of the Secretary and attend briefings by senior military and civilian officials at the Pentagon. They also gain hands-on experience through operations and interactions with troops and military leaders in all five Armed Forces stationed across the United States. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Minister of Environment and Protected Areas Rebecca Schulz announced, from the Canadian Energy Museum near Leduc, AB on Monday, November 25, 2024, a major step forward to help grow Alberta’s energy sector while reducing emissions.
Alberta will invest up to $50 million from the TIER fund to support Canada’s first test site to advance energy technologies, create jobs and help power the world.
Alberta has some of the most advanced and skilled drilling expertise in the world. Yet, unlike the United States, Japan and other countries, Canada does not currently have an open-access test site, which is critical for spurring innovation and leading-edge drilling technologies the world needs, such as geothermal, lithium, oil and natural gas.
To help fill this gap, Alberta’s government will invest up to $50 million from the industry-funded Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) program to support the Alberta Drilling Accelerator through a public-private partnership model. Funding will help create Canada’s first open-access, technology-agnostic, industry-led hub, leveraging Alberta’s unrivalled drilling expertise to develop the technologies needed to reduce emissions, create jobs and deliver energy to the world. Walking up this sidewalk needs quite a bit of expertise. It is much worse for older cars going up the street... and gets a bit scary when you have to start again when the traffic light turns green from red. You can call it a nightmare during day time!

About the UNDP-AFCIA programme: The UNDP-implemented Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator programme (UNDP-AFCIA) operates within the framework of the multi-partner platform known as the Adaptation Innovation Marketplace. The marketplace aggregates resources, expertise, and technical support to facilitate local access to climate change adaptation finance.
The programme is supported by financial contributions from the Adaptation Fund and the European Union. To date, it has granted 44 micro and small awards to locally led organizations in 33 countries worldwide, accelerating their innovative solutions to enhance resilience in the most vulnerable communities.

May’s theme is Acceptance, chosen by @cm_lexington and illustrated by @robertbeattyart. Acceptance is the act of surrendering to our reality, without judgment or fear. There are many things in our lives that cause us discomfort or pain. We attempt to change or resist them, to no effect. So we wave a big stick, keeping them at bay like a wounded animal.
.
Acceptance is weaving into your story what once caused you pain — and still might, to this day. You welcome that creature into your home, tend to its wounds, and feed it out of your hand. Acceptance is knowing that this feral animal lives side by side with your tender house cat of a heart, always.
.
Embracing what cannot change can help you gather the energy to change what must. Accept these truths: you cannot make another person love or see you. You did not finish everything before the sun set on another day — and you didn’t need to. Every moment will pass, the blissful and the excruciating. It’s the hardest lesson, but one we need the most: the grace to let go. #CMAcceptance #CreativeMornings
