I nominate Linda Stevens for Administrative Professional of the Year.

Linda has provided guidance, expertise and practical tips to our staff at the Clear Lake Freeman Branch Library.

She has created enormously large gap lists of music CDs, fiction and non-fiction DVDs and CD audiobooks for our branch and by doing so, helped us fill a large need for new book and music CDs and DVDs for our community.

Teamwork: Linda worked with the Branch Librarian, Assistant Branch Librarians in Children's and Adult Services, the Young Adult Librarian and other staff members at FM to create gap lists for Music CDs, Sports media DVDs, Travel DVDs, Children's Language CDs and DVDs, History and British mysteries DVDs and Adult Audiobooks on CD. The total dollar value of these lists is over $32,000. Linda created the lists after consulting with us, and checked back with us on numerous occasions to get our feedback about our collection needs. She understood that our needs are immediate, and worked diligently to finish compiling the lists in a very timely manner and placed the orders promptly. Our customers are enjoying the new media immensely.

Innovation: Linda Stevens created a one page list of tips to assist staff members in Circulation, Children's and Adult Services. She came to spend an entire day at our branch working with our staff and explaining the hows and whys of weeding and replacing audiovisual media. She gave the staff guidelines and specific examples of the HCPL way to handle collection development for our music CDs, non-fiction videos and DVDs, fiction videos and DVDs and children's kits and CDs. The CREW manual from the Texas State Library that librarians use for weeding guidelines does not address all the concerns and questions that staff members have about audio-visual media.

Linda gave us guidelines for us at HCPL about how many checkouts should be

expected from a VHS tape. Linda provided our staff with her interpretation

of how audiovisual weeding should be done including number of checkouts, timeliness, number of copies available and the availability of other subsitutes.

Job Performance: Linda Stevens is eager to assist our staff with media questions at any time. She consults with us to be sure she is locating titles that will fit the needs of our customers. Linda is cheerful, courteous, humorous, intelligent and hardworking. The day she came to spend the day at our branch, the electricity went off for over 4 hours. Linda stayed upstairs and kept working at weeding our collection even though the working conditions were not comfortable. She inspired our staff, and to this day, we continue to weed our media collections with confidence.

Leadership: Linda was invited to spend the day at the Clear Lake Freeman Branch. We set up a meeting where she met with about 10 staff members who work the most directly with weeding audiovisual materials. She created a quick tips sheet with guidelines for weeding. She then spent the rest of the day going through our adult non-fiction videos and DVDs, our audiobooks, our music CDs, children's kits and books on tape/CD and our fiction videos and DVDs. She calmed the staff by listening to their concerns about replacing popular videos and cassettes, and she encouraged them to put DVD and CD replacement copies on gap lists for our branch. The staff responded very positively to Linda's suggestions and guidance. All areas of the library's audiovisual collection have been weeded. The FM staff feels empowered to continue to monitor the A-V collections here - largely due to Linda Stevens' impact here.

Customer Service - Linda Stevens worked with the Branch Librarian and other staff members to weed the non-fiction videos and DVDs, and then encouraged us to move that collection to the first floor of the library. The FM customers have been delighted at discovering that our DVD collection is much larger and accessible to them on the first floor near the self check out stations. The media checkouts here are close to the Children's collection checkouts, and we know how important the DVD and music and book CDs are to our customers. We thank Linda for helping us provide better customer service by helping us get the a-v collection in shape so we could move more of it downstairs for easier access.

With the efforts and backing of NGI faculty members and NCPIR, whose expertise and experience saw these students through several tests to emerge as winners, this event marks the high point of the year.

The focus of the Institution has been on a spectrum of activities that engage students in events that challenge them to cross boundaries of the self and demonstrate their special talents. Overcoming every challenge that crossed their path, the students have risen up time and again, proving that they are achievers.

Nehru Group of Institutions’ Riddhi 2019, conducted by NCPIR team - Coimbatore, on 1 April, 2019 was organized at P.K. Das Auditorium, Nehru Gardens, T. M. Palayam to felicitate students who got successfully placed in prominent companies and industries across India. During the academic year 2018-2019, more than 150 companies visited the campus with over 2000 offers to employ NGI’s students. Companies like Infosys, CTS, Amazon, TCS, BYJU’S, Tech Mahindra, Jaro Education, Amphisoft, 2 ADPRO, Hexaware, Syntel, WIPRO, Caliber Interconnect Solutions and Karvy Stock Broking visited NGI for recruitment.

Chief Guest: Mr. Johnny Edward Solomon – Director PricewaterhouseCopper, India

As you would be walking your first step to professional career, I would like to congratulate you. Being in the industry for a very long period of time, I have come across a lot of individuals – but today I can see the bright faces of learning and eagerness to learn; keep this always.

Relevance, Responsive, Rigorous, Reliability and Responsibility are the most important factors that any industry looks for. Today, technology has changed and challenges us in many ways. Every 5 years, 40% of the jobs that was being done or have been doing would be replaced by technology, so I urge you to constantly reinvent yourself by up skilling. I encourage you to do something that defines your goal rather than becoming something. All the very best to all students who have made their parents, teachers and the institution very proud, you are an achiever remember this.

Guest of Honor: Mr. Mohanasundram, Manger- L&D, Caliber Interconnect Solutions Pvt., Ltd.

Though most of you are here tonight because you care about youth issues, or maybe you're kindly supportive of your friends and their political endeavors, some of you might be here because you heard there would be a speaker with some expertise on the subject we’re here to discuss. I assure you that we tried for various experts and public icons but the timing wasn't quite right, and, as of two days ago, I am the speaker, so I'm going to do my best to pretend I'm an expert. Having a young person speak – and not a politician, or a professor, or some public intellectual – is, perhaps, in many ways more appropriate. The issues we need to talk about tonight and after this evening deeply affect us as students and young professionals. The consequences of the government's policies and decisions to date will be shouldered by us and the society we inherit, so we should be the ones concerned and we should be the ones speaking out.

How does what's happened in Ottawa since January 2006 – since the Conservative Government came into power and Stephen Harper became Prime Minister – affect us: young people, students, youth, young professionals? This was the basic question we wanted to ask and the reason for organizing this event.

We wanted to find out what Mr. Harper and the Conservative Party have done for young Canadians since forming government over a year ago. What we found should concern us all. In 2006, the "New Government of Canada" had a surplus of $13.2 billion. With this money, how did they invest in our future?

• They cut an astounding $55 million from Youth Employment Initiatives.

• They eliminated the Youth Environmental Internship Program.

• They cut $10 million dollars from the Foreign Affairs Youth International Internship Program.

• They cut $18 million from the Literacy Skills Program.

• And they cut $10 million by eliminating the Canada Volunteerism Initiative.

I could go on but the point is this: in 2006 the Conservative Government made $1 billion in cuts to programs related to education, employment and volunteerism targeted at or important to youth. And remember, all of this despite the fact that there was a $13.2 billion surplus.

And that was just youth stuff:

• They cut $64.6 million from Foreign Affairs and another $4 million from the Canadian International Development Agency

• They said they were "Green" and they cut $10.5 million from the Environment.

So, in March 2006, young people were understandably upset; and not just Liberals: the Sierra Youth Coalition and the Youth Environmental Network were right to point out young Canadians wanted reductions in greenhouse gases, not in climate change funding.

Now, if we fast-forward to March 2007, we remember everyone was talking about a spring election. If you look at this year's budget, on the surface it looks a lot better than 2006's - until you look beyond the shock and awe way they threw money at everything, mostly at Quebec, and you realize young people have still been left behind.

• The Conservatives talk about research and scientific advancement at the same time they cut $970 million from the Indirect Costs of Research Program.

• They talk about supporting students while they don't put a penny into the pockets of undergraduate students at all. There's money for Canada's top graduate students but most young Canadians remain unsupported.

• There's no plan for student debt, there's no plan to ensure that the expiring Millennium Scholarship funding remains in the system as needs-based student grants, and there's no plan to make education more affordable for low and middle income families.

• The international internships they cut in 2006 are still cut. And yesterday it was revealed by the Globe and Mail that the Harper Government has been aware of totally unacceptable human rights violations occurring in Afghanistan, so the need to develop young professionals with expertise in human rights, democratic development, good governance, and international development should be all the more clear.

• Finally, it's been over a year since the Conservatives promised to build 125,000 childcare spaces in Canada within 5 years. They haven't built one. Either they have magical carpenters up their sleeve or they weren't serious about creating choice and supporting young families – particularly young mothers – who might want pursue career or educational development opportunities.

The 2006 Conservative Budget was short-sighted while the 2007 Budget merely paid lip service to competitiveness, environmental stewardship and social justice. In short, since January 2006, the Conservative Government has done nothing to position Canada for the 21st Century. It has neglected youth and young adults, and set us at a disadvantage in an increasingly competitive world.

These are a lot of numbers and these things can get lost in abstraction. The main point is this: we have young researchers at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta who are considering closing shop and leaving for the US or Europe because there isn't sufficient funding for them here. We have young Canadians who are willing and excited to work for very little in developing countries to improve our image abroad and learn about international development and good governance – these youth have fewer opportunities for internships than others did just 2 years ago. We have a government that seems completely unaware of how much debt we're accumulating in our undergraduate years; how expensive the cost of living is in our cities; and how hard it is to find day care spaces if you're a new family. We have a government that just realized a year ago that climate change was real, and that can only put together an environmental plan by copying Liberal, NDP and Green Party ideas.

This is why, tonight, we figured it was necessary to party for our future, because the Conservatives aren't acting like a party for the future at all. Stephen Harper and the Conservative strategists are counting on the fact that young people don't vote and that they're too occupied to pay attention to things like federal budgets. We need to make it very clear that we will vote, we are paying attention, and that we're not happy about the direction Canada is going. We also need to know what we want.

Here are a few ideas:

• We need to appoint a Minister for Post Secondary Education that could work with Provincial Governments to ensure, if young Canadians get the grades, they get to go to university or college regardless of their family's income and savings.

• We need to reverse cuts to Research and Development and ensure Canada retains its bright young scientists.

• We need to appoint a Minister of State for Youth Skills Development responsible for establishing a world-class national volunteer and work experience program for secondary school graduates.

• We need to invest in international internships, and Foreign Affairs Canada, and the Canadian International Development Agency because what's happening in Afghanistan, whether you support the war are not, should and absolutely must occur within the bounds of the Geneva Convention and should respect the norms of international human rights we have championed for decades.

• We need to support and enhance programs like Katimavik so that young Canadians have a better understanding of what their citizenship means.

These are all new Liberal commitments to young people, but they could also serve as a framework for broader consensus between the progressive parties of Canada. We need to work together to ensure our leaders in Ottawa and our leaders in Edmonton fully realize the benefits and necessity of investing in us. Mr. Dion has a 5 point plan for youth that is circulating around tonight, and that's the kind of commitment we should be demanding from every politician who aims to lead our country. For me, the most exciting point is the last one: he proposes the creation of a National Youth Advisory Committee to bring youth issues to the attention of Parliament. It's exciting because it recognizes the fact that young people need to identify their concerns and take responsibility for enacting change – that no one else is a more appropriate spokesperson and advocate for our issues than us. We have politicians and leaders here tonight that are willing to listen and learn about the things that concern us. Please take the opportunity to talk to them and share your experiences and ideas.

We wanted to organize tonight so that it would be the beginning of something larger. I hope everyone has fun and I sincerely hope that everybody leaves feeling like they can have a place in a movement to create a better, more future-focused society here in Canada.

My expertise with photo editing is minimal, but I do have some experience. I used to edit a lot of my own pictures that I took when I was younger, but I would just use filters and such on photobucket. When I got into high school, I never took a photography class, or a class for Photoshop, but some of the classes I went through did touch on photo editing. Using Photoshop for me was really about trying new things and trying to create in Photoshop, as well as use a photo as the focus. I just did each tutorial that I thought I wanted to have the effect from. It took a while to go through tutorials, but I think it paid off!

For my Assignment Two, I used Photoshop CS6. Here are the steps that I took in creating my photograph.

1. Original Photo Manipulation

a. I Insert the SD card into laptop

b. Copy one image to a new working directory

c. Create a backup of the original image

d. In a new project, I created a canvas size the same size as my original image

e. In a new project, I opened the image I took

f. After selecting the magnetic lasso tool, I set the feather to 10px

g. I cropped the image by selecting everything that I am seeing through the window, besides the object in the photo, which was me in the side view mirror

h. And the objects through the rear window

i. The top of the door was over exposed from the reflection of the sun light so I used the magnetic lasso tool with more feather and selected the glare

j. I used the image adjustment exposure setting and decreased the exposure

2. Creating stars

a. On a new project and layer I used the filter->noise->add noise with white and black s

b. Using the image levels I adjusted the white noise out to reduce the white specs

c. On a new layer I used an X shaped feather brush shape, made it almost as small as the other stars to make larger stars

d. Changed the brush size a bit larger and added a few larger starts in a closer cluster

e. Added more variant with more sizes

3. Creating cloudy nebula

a. Created a new project with the same canvas size as the original photo

b. I changed my gradient settings to be radial from dark grey to black

c. On the background layer I used bucketed the gradient tool

d. I a new layer named clouds I used the render clouds

e. In the layer style I added a liner gradient overlay with red yellow blue and purple

f. Changed the style to screen

g. Changed the angle and did it again on another layer and this time the angle was 90 degrees from the previous angle

4. Created Planet rings

a. First created the rings in a new project by generating noise again and this time using the distort tool I added as much swirl as possible

b. Lasso tool with feather an oval shape close to the outside of a ring

c. Inverted selection and deleted everything else in that layer

d. Lassoed the center in an oval shape that matches the outer oval and deleted the center of the donut

e. Using the free transform tool I rotated to give an angle to the rings

f. Touched up the far left and right with the eraser to give them more ring shape

g. Layer style color overlay made it purple

5. Planet surface

a. In a new layer lassoed a circle about the size of the inner oval of the rings

b. I needed a texture of a rock for my brush tool so I took a picture of a rock I found out side and cropped a tiny piece of it for a pattern for my brush tool

c. Filled the circle completely with no repeating pattern

d. In a new layer, filled the same planet selection with all black

e. Added an outer glow to the planet as an atmosphere and an inner glow to use as a shadow feather to my planet texture

f. On a new layer I used the free transform tool to make the circle larger than the original planet to add a shadow effect. This created a more crescent moon shape

g. I added these layers to my texture layer and used the layer style that made the planet look like there is a shadow on it

h. Used the eraser tool with lots of feather to erase the dark side of the planet as a touch up

6. Combine pieces

a. Copied the stars layers from the stars project and

b. Copied the layers from the cloud project to the project with the original photo

c. Did the same with the planet but it was way to big so I had to resize it using the scale tool to fit it inside my rings

d. Then I had to erase the portion of the rings that go behind the planet with very low feathering

e. With the cloud layer selected took the eraser tool with high feathering to make the clouds only appear as a cloud in space

f. Dragged the images to place them in a visible pot once I unhide my original photo layer so you can see the objects I made through the window easily

7. Created a shooting star

a. On a new layer I took the paint brush tool with a circle no feathering and made a dot

b. In the effects I added a motion blur with very high distance in the angle that makes the shooting star shoot more across the sky

c. Then used the eraser tool with high feather to give the comet tail more of a point

d. Once the comet was positioned correctly saved a backup of the project then saved a copy with +the flattened layers image and exported it to JPEG

I think that the edits I made completely changed the look and meaning of the original photo. The first photo was just an average scene. It was just me through a side mirror of a car, which obviously isn’t very exciting. By changing it to be outerspace surrounding me, not only creates a really cool sci-fi effect, but also tells something about me; that I am super interested in space! I think that the edits are very dramatic, but I really had fun exploring and creating something I’m proud of in Photoshop. The meaning is completely different in this photo of a car flying through outerspace than it was in the original.

Thanks,

Madi

Durga Puja one of the biggest & most important celebration of Hindu religion.

Goddess Durga represents a united front of all Divine forces against the negative forces of evil and wickedness.

Idols were crafted and made individually by artisans (Kumors in Bengali) right at the place where the puja would be worshiped/celebrated. It was a time consuming and complicated process – first structure is put into place made of bamboo and wood, then skeleton-like figure was erected or tied to the structure. These base figures were covered with hay and were given an appearance of raw Idol. This was the base of Idol. Then, special type of mud brought from the river bed mixed with clay & rice husk was made into semi-solid state. This was really a complicated process, lot of care and expertise was put into the clay mixing process. This mixture was then applied on the surface of the raw structure made of hay and was given the shape of various Idols, viz. Devi Durga & her family with Ashura .

Having prepared the base of the Idol, the artists used to start finishing work, like making of finger tips, noses etc., which were later added with the raw idols. Then the semi-finished work was left alone for some days to get the wet clay to get dried up. After the Idol got dried up, the artists again started to work on it giving finishing touch. Afterwards, the Idols was given first coat of paint (usually white base), then second coat with multiple colors, then final finishing touch was given. The most intricate part of this process was painting of eyes of the Idol (chokhsudan). We used to believe that once the eye is painted, the Idols come alive at that very moment. Which used to be the clay models once, has finally come alive!

The events ranged from film viewings and speeches to conversations with people who have had foodborne disease, and with restaurateurs who talked about their food safety priorities.

The organization recorded these conversations and distributed awareness videos, and they invited the media to attend their events. In national TV coverage, Cabinet d’Expertise Six Sigma president, Adoumbaye Sylvain, spoke about the connection between food safety and food security. “About a week ago,” he said, “our nation declared a state of food and nutrition emergency. This is a situation which forces many to eat food that does not meet good quality standards.”
