Today, I experienced a vivid dream featuring a mysterious woman whom I had never encountered during my time in the Navy. She appeared as a newcomer to the ship, gliding through its corridors like a spectral presence. Throughout the dream, she manifested unexpectedly, traversing stairwells and hallways with an ethereal grace. In one striking moment, she approached me for directions within the ship, allowing me a close encounter with her captivating presence. Her voice resonated with the cadence of hip-hop, speaking to me in the language of my favorite songs from the genre. This unexpected twist added a layer of intrigue to the dream, anchoring me in a state of profound fascination.

Despite being aware of the dream's unreality as it unfolded, I found myself unwilling to awaken, enraptured by the beauty and individuality she exuded. Guiding her to her intended destination, we stumbled upon a chamber typical of a ship's quarters, adorned with only a bed, a boombox, and scattered CDs. Here, her speech transitioned from hip-hop lyrics to ordinary conversation, though the specifics evade my memory. Nevertheless, the reluctance to depart from this dream realm lingered long after waking.

While the dream's meaning eludes me, its lingering impression remains undeniable. I contemplate the possibility of shared dreams and ponder whether this enigmatic figure exists beyond the realms of my imagination.

For those who never have experienced wildfire smoke here is a realistic image from a few years ago coming into Burbank WA just out of the Ice Harbor lock and dam.

If your in a smoky environment keep your camera in your camera lens cap on when not actively using it and keep it in your camera bag smoke will find its way on to everything inside and out and tough to remove.

I am not saying not to take advantage of the effects of the smoke just limit your time with your camera out of the bag.

Experienced this Majestic sight for the first time in my life, A sort of Complete Rainbow, in a exactly circular arc surrounding the Sun for more than 3 hours.

I've experienced a relationship where I felt uncared for. Neglected, by a person that got caught in a vicious circle and had to focus on himself and his problems. This is my way of letting this feeling out of my body. In Iceland I started a small series on the theme "neglected".

this week, we had a visitor in the form of tropical storm andrea, which dumped nearly six inches of rain on Friday into Saturday morning. it was worse than the last couple of hurricanes we have experienced! normally I wouldn't let a little rain get in the way of exercising the dogs, but this time it was more than a little rain! the dogs had a rest day. which they do not particularly enjoy. alice was looking out the window and I thought it would make a good picture to depict our week.

For the first time Streetart Frankey is participating in the Amsterdam Light Festival.

Street art Frankey gives the city small inconspicuous surprises. Sometimes quite large, sometimes very small. Every week a photo with one of his recent works appears in the supplement to the newspaper Het Parool. A great opportunity to take a closer look at his work. Sometimes you have to search to find it and sometimes it is already gone.

Amsterdam Light Festival

Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in Amsterdam. Artists, architects and (light) designers from all over the world bring their light artworks and installations alive during the festival every winter.

Edition #10 is from 2 December 2021 till 22 Jaunuary 2022. It’s the 10th anniversary of the festival. This special edition is a repeat of the most popular light artworks of the past 10 years. A few new artworks and some artworks have been placed at a different location than the original, so they can be experienced as new again.

Seven gigantic butterflies have landed on the surface of the canal. The butterflies not only rise and fall with the movement of the water caused by passing boats, but their wings glow blue against the dark night.

Streetart Frankey

Streetart Frankey (pseudonym of Frank de Ruwe) is a Dutch artist who wants to positively influence the street scene with relatively small and often inconspicuous works of art.

He grew up in Nijmegen, father was an inventor at Philips Netherlands. He studied at Delft University of Technology (Industrial design). In daily life director of and working for design collective Natwerk. In Amsterdam, many of his works in the street art category can be found on buildings, streets and bridges, often in addition to existing building elements. He himself about his work;

"I want to push boundaries. Art has no boundaries, that's why I like it so much."

In 2019, a special page has been dedicated to his art in Het Parool for a number of years; first he took care of that section himself, later he had to leave that work to others because of busy work. A little later his work Eberhard van der Laan appeared above the entrance of Paradiso.

One of the works that inspired him is the Boomzagertje in the Leidsebosje, a work by an as yet unknown artist.

You'll all have experienced the same problem I ran into here. You're trying to take a wide-angle, long-exposure night shot of a bin and the background absolutely ruins it. Gah! Rather than spend my entire night desperately looking for the perfect bin shot, I decided to include the backdrop.

Joking aside, this was an area I could not properly shoot, no matter where I went in the square. This was the best shot I could get where a tree wasn't in the way and the town hall wasn't at an extreme angle.

I'm not sure I'll be printing this one. The bin is very.... 'present', isn't it?

You’ve experienced layer upon layer of hurts, abuse, devastation, and pain far beyond your capacity to cope. As a result you live an extremely challenging life, trying your best to survive and function with a traumatized heart. While it feels like there’s more devastation, decay and darkness within your traumatized heart than your body, mind and soul can bear, there are also some glimmers of light, color, hope and life there too. Please remember that each piece of your heart is valid and is allowed to be recognized. And though it is awful, there are also some pleasant places even within your traumatized heart.

The crazy spring that I had experienced a month ago in coastal Mediterranean region has arrived in İstanbul… The piece of land next to my garden wall is full of weeds and wild flowers-a feast for the eyes… So this morning, I went in to the garden to take some photographs. Well… my garden-cats were there, of course!:) And:

- I shouldn't wear short t-shirts when I'm with my garden cats. They like caressing my back with their tails without caring whether I am tickled!

- Cats think that lenses are worth smelling… :) (without caring how funny they look when they smell lenses)

- Cats have excellent sense of timing. They pass in front of camera or put their faces exactly at the moment of taking the photograph.

- Cats are very much interested in cameras…stepping on cameras by their little paws is their way of checking them.

- Cats can perfectly stand still…until the moment I try to take their photographs…

So from this morning I have only such photographs…

Cats!.. :)

At Klis Fortress the Mongols experienced defeat in 1242.

During the Middle Ages, the Kingdom of Croatia was in a personal union with the Kingdom of Hungary, with Béla IV as a king.

When routed on the banks of the Sajó river (Šajo) in 1241 by the Mongols, Béla IV fled to Zagreb Croatia. Batu sent a few tumens (roughly 20,000 men at arms) under Khadan in pursuit of Bela. The major objective was not the conquest but the capture of the Arpad king. The poorly fortified Zagreb was unable to resist the invasion and was destroyed, its cathedral burned by Mongols. In preparation for a second invasion, Gradec was granted a royal charter or Golden Bull of 1242 by King Béla IV, after which citizens of Zagreb engaged in building defensive walls and towers around their settlement.

The Mongols' pursuit of Béla IV continued from Zagreb through Pannonia to Dalmatia. While in pursuit, the Mongols under the leadership of Kadan (Qadan) attacked Klis Fortress in Croatia in March 1242. Due to the strong fortifications of Klis, the Mongols dismounted and climbed over the walls using nearby cliffs. The defenders were able to inflict a number of casualties on the Mongols, which enraged the latter and caused them to fight hand to hand in the streets and gathered a sizable amount of loot from houses. As soon as they learned that King Bela was elsewhere, they abandoned the attack and split off to attack Split and Trogir.

The Mongols pursued Béla IV from town to town in Dalmatia, while Croatian nobility and Dalmatian towns such as Trogir and Rab helped Béla IV to escape. After their defeat against the Croatian soldiers, the Mongols retreated and Béla IV was awarded Croatian towns and nobility.

Some historians claim that the mountainous terrain of Croatian Dalmatia was fatal for the Mongols because of the great losses they suffered from Croat ambushes set up in mountain passes. In any case, though much of Croatia was plundered and destroyed, long-term occupation was unsuccessful.

In 1500s Islam hordes will meet same fate at the same place

I experienced a full range of weathers over my two days in Halong, from tropical rainstorms to scorching sun. Although impressive come rain or shine, it feels much more mysterious when fog descends over the area and the islands are reduced to vast looming silhouettes on the horizon...

Some of these limestone giants still provide sanctuary and shelter to small fishing communities, such as the floating village of Cua Van.

My son & I experienced another big loss in our lives, after just losing my parents whom I took care of. We had to put down our beloved dog Sammy. She was 14 yrs old & died of old age.

This sweet half lab, half cattle dog fell into our laps pretty much. I'm friends with a foster mom for the rescue called Cold Nose Warm Heart Rescue. Max was available for pickup right after Easter! He is such a blessing & wonderful addition to our family!

Friday last week we experienced our first proper snow. It was at its heaviest that day. Unsure about its existence, I carried my camera to work to capture few shots during lunch hour. Waited for this guy to walk pass me so that I could make the pic I wanted. Quite happy how this has come out.

It is strange to know that some of my friends don't like snow. Not being judgmental about it but I think I understand the real reason for their dislike - it is the chaos snow brings along with it.

Anyways, for me, I don't think anything in this world could kill the excitement of snowfall.

I have finally managed to update my blog. Do check it out for more shots from this season.

Hope you guys are doing well...catching up with your streams now.

Having just experienced a signal stop at Ashton Moss North Junction with the13.05 Liverpool to York train, 45120 accelerates it's train past the signal box. The delay was caused by 45120 following from Miles Platting 40154 with the Newton heath breakdown train, which had just pulled clear onto the Stockport line.

A few weeks ago we experienced weather that almost made me think that we were going to have a pretty early winter. In the distance, we could see snow on the Mesa and we woke up to temperatures in the 20's. I was quite excited. Now, it's more like how I guess it should be ... lows in the 40's ... highs in the 60's. Oh well, I guess that I'll have to wait just a bit longer. ;-)

It all got me to start thinking of the return of the sandhill cranes. In fact we've heard isolate smaller groups flying overhead on occasion of recent. So we went and checked out Delta County to see if they were congregating yet. To my disappointment, they hadn't yet ... at least at that moment. So, into the archives I went to "refresh" my memory with how fascinating the upcoming sandhill crane migration through the area is. Yep, I've always been a self-proclaimed "craniac". It's a bit different here in CO than it was in FL, but both are quite thrilling when sandhill cranes are concerned. I anxiously await greeting them by the thousands ... until then I remain satisfied looking back through my archives of images. :-)

Happy Tuesday everyone! Thanks for stopping by.

North Iowa - Winnebago County

We have experienced strong northwest winds for at least the last 24 plus hours with gusts exceeding 40 mph. It's the backside of the winterstorm that swept up the western boarder of Minnesota including North Dakota yesterday and last night!

A pristine day to hike in my beloved Pilot Knob State Park, out of the wind, while looking for visual treasures and early signs of "real" spring! This caught my attention on the way home!

The city experienced an influx of French and British immigrants in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, many coming from Haiti after the Haitian slave revolt of 1791. This added to the city's eclectic cultural mix, already rich with Spanish and African culture.

It was also the location where Spanish troops faced their main defeat at San Juan Hill on July 1, 1898, during the Spanish–American War. After capturing the surrounding hills, General William Rufus Shafter laid siege to the city. Spain later surrendered to the United States after Admiral William T. Sampson destroyed the Spanish Atlantic fleet just outside Santiago's harbor on July 3, 1898

Last night Toronto experienced the most frightening but beautiful display of lightning yet this summer.

I setup the tripod, pointed the camera at the CN Tower, and configured the intervalometer to shoot continuously until it filled the memory card and watched as the storm passed over the city. I took so many shots that I'll have to piece them together as a video :)

Corno del Renon prides itself with the prettiest 360° view in South Tyrol - and rightly so! “For who wishes to see all of Tyrol at one sight shall climb these heights”, thus wrote Ludwig Purtscheller, mountaineer of the later 19th century, about Rittner Horn/Corno del Renon. And, if you’ve ever experienced the vastness that opens in front of you up there, if you’ve ever felt that rush of goosebumps at the sight of so much unfiltered beauty, you will surely agree with Purtscheller: The view at the top here reaches 360° to the horizon and back - absolutely open, clear and unobstructed. The onlooker’s eyes roam from the Dolomites - UNESCO World Heritage Site – spreading in one arch from southeast to south, over the summits of Peitlerkofel/Sass de Putia to the Geißlerspitzen/Gruppo delle Odle peaks, to Schlern/Sciliar and further on over Rosengarten/Catinaccio to Latemar all the way to Schwarzhorn/Corno Nero and Weißhorn/Corno Bianco.

I've always experienced a feeling of sadness at carnivals and fairs. I see people all around me enjoying themselves, eating carnival food, drinking, and basically living in the moment. But it's not like that for me. I seem to dial into a melancholy sub channel. Carrying a camera to events like these reinforces the concept of being an outside observer. I felt this very strongly the other night as I wandered about a summer street festival. I felt so disconnected from the proceedings it was almost like becoming invisible. People seemed not to even notice me and that often plays to my favor. I much prefer to capture scenes like this as they are, or at least as I see them. This series started off at sunset, and the results were initially mundane, bordering on disappointing. But all of that changed when a thunderstorm brewed up suddenly. The rain quickly thinned out the crowds which created some open space. The residual sunlight caused a wonderful definition between clear sky and storm cloud. The rain yielded incredible light reflections off the pavement. The lighting was pure magic yet I seemed to be the only one able to realize it.

"I remember I was just a few days shy of 16 when I had my first nervous breakdown. It was honestly the scariest thing that I had ever experienced. At my lowest point I can recall finding myself in my bathroom, a bottle of painkillers in my hand, tears streaming down my face. I looked at myself in the mirror and it was almost as if I'd never seen myself before, and I can remember thinking to myself "What are you doing? Why are you like this? Why can't you just be normal? You're only 16. This isn't right". That's when I realised that something was severely wrong. I put the pills down and walked into my mother's bedroom, and I remember seeing my own pain reflected in her eyes when she saw the state that I was in. I told her I needed help and she hugged me for the first time in years, and for the first time since I was 11 I felt as if I actually had a mother. What followed that was months of psychology sessions, where I'd see my psychologist once or twice a week depending on how bad I was that particular week. Through my sessions with her she helped teach me how to cope with these emotions whenever I felt them instead of bottling them up like I had for years. Music, drawing, poetry, creation. Creating art. These were the things that have kept and continue to keep me going through my low moments. It's been three and a half years since all of this occurred, and within those three and a half years I've only experienced one relapse. At this point in my life I can honestly say that I'm happy. I'm still young, I'm still going to continue to learn about life and about myself, I'm always going to experience these low moments from time to time, but I know now that I'm strong enough to make it through anything that life has to offer."- A human of SL

We experienced the most wonderful sunsets on this east coast holiday - totally unexpected ! East coast and the sun was setting on the horizon......had me reaching for the map!! This was an inland view over the countryside as the sun was setting.

Most pioneer families experienced the death of a child. The Yount family experienced it more than most.

Originally from Missouri, Charles Smith Yount moved west to Washington in the late 1800s or early 1900s. He probably moved with his brother Raymond (and their respective wives - Junia and Lydia).

Charles was 17 years older than Raymond and likely lived a fairly full life in Missouri before moving to Washington. Charles married Junia in April of 1895 in Cole County, Missouri.

It's very likely they had a child or two who died while still in Missouri. It is certain they had one upon arriving in Washington. The infant lived only a few weeks in 1899. It doesn't appear that they were able to name them. A year later, they had another who was probably stillborn.

Both of those siblings share a stone in a cemetery that I photographed last year. The stone seems to read, like this one pictured, that they were "sons of G.S. & J. Yount."

Raymond, the brother, was around 17 when he and Charles moved to Washington. While Charles was married to Junia, Raymond was a bachelor. Soon, however, he met Lydia. The young couple was married in December of 1905 and before long, Lydia was pregnant.

Junia was pregnant once again too, though Lydia was a little farther along. In July, Lydia gave birth to a healthy boy they named Harry. Two months later, Junia gave birth to the infant who is buried here, in the photo I'm sharing today.

Lydia would have another in 1908, as did Junia. Both babies were healthy. In fact, this would be the only child out of six of Charles and Junia who would live beyond infancy.

Two years later, Lydia was pregnant again, but contracted Tuberculosis before giving birth, and died shortly after. Velma, the infant, also caught the disease and lived only a few days longer than her mother. Lydia was only 21.

Concerning this photo, I searched for far too long for someone named G.S. Yount, but found nothing. But this infant wasn't the only Yount buried here, however - Velma and Lydia are also here, though neither have a stone .

I was, however, able to find that Lydia's husband was brothers with a Charles Smith Yount who was married to Junia. Could that "G" on the stone actually be a "C"?

Yes, obviously! Finding Charles Smith Yount led me to the other stone for their two other infants buried in a different cemetery - the stone I had photographed last year.

While there were a multitude of pioneers who arrived in Washington, I'm finding that it was a very small world.

The UK has just experienced an arctic weather system descibed as The Beast From The East. We thought that we had managed to miss it. Just one last dump of snow meant that I got the chance to head off to the ford across Sheepwash Gill to image the location in different conditions.

Now I can't wait to see it in spring and summer.

Post Script: It seems that we were lucky in getting just the one dump of snow on Friday afternoon, that was all melted by Saturday afternoon and no medium term effects.

For people who haven't experienced real cold, this photo was taken on a minus 34 degree Celcius morning in Whitehorse Yukon. While that may seem cold, we are used to temperatures that can fall to minus fifty in January. What these temperatures create is a unique feeling of isolation, while also clarifying sounds from great distances. While I was up on this hill photographing the valley, I could clearly hear the footsteps of people walking to work on the streets below. In fact, I kept looking beside me to spot the person walking by until I noticed a tiny figure walking along Alsek Road at the bottom of the hill. It really is a very "cool" experience (pun intended).

Are you a cat owner who wouldn't fathom living without your feline friend, but have become frustrated with its recent "spraying" issues?

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

Are you at your wits end trying to figure out how to find a solution? Look no further.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

Cat Spraying No More is a system that has all you need to understand why your cat is doing what it's doing, and how to bring about a peaceful solution that will not only fix the problem, but will serve to bring you closer to your cat.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

Spraying, or peeing, around the house is a big no-no, for obvious reasons; and sometimes, cats that regularly use their litter box turn to other areas of the house to urinate or spray. As a result, owners tend to focus on the issue of the mis-targeted urination, rather than on why the behavior is occurring - the key element to Cat Spraying No More.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

The Cat Spraying No More System carefully outlines various scenarios of unwanted spraying and targets possible causes in an easy to understand and well-laid out format. The system eases the reader into the topic and playfully chides with owners about the author's own unfortunate experiences, how the author was able to overcome them, and how you can, too.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

The author's encouraging voice helps cat owners understand their cats better. There are underlying reasons for why cats do what they do, and when things are not quite right, they react. This system helps cat owners understand their cats better by discussing reasons why cats urinate outside their litter box.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

It then outlines a system for owners to follow, based on their specific situation, so results are targeted and more effective. Depending on each scenario, there are detailed step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow. The author guides cat owners with reassurance and support.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

Some of the major plus points behind Cat Spraying No More are:

Saving money and time. No more carpet cleaning, upholstery shampooing and time wasted finding these incidents and attending to them.

Tricks you can use to get your cat to "like" its litter box again. This system helps you direct your cat back to using the litter box, on its own, without force.

A home free of stress and smell. Once you see how easy it is to get your cat back on track with this system, your home will be cleaner, you’ll be less stressed, and everyone will be happier. Trust me.

Helpful hints to effectively clean up the misfires. The system provides detailed instructions on clever concoctions that will effectively and permanently clean accident areas so you never know they existed.

Four bonus guides to boost your knowledge of caring for your cat:

Cat Training Bible

101 Recipes for a Healthy Cat

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

An affordable and easy system to follow. Nothing in this system is overly expensive or difficult to execute. It also comes with a 60-day money back guarantee.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

On the negative side, the following are points to consider before purchasing this system:

This system is not a perfect solution for 100% of cases (of bad cat behaviors). While the system is effective in 95% of the cases, there are instances in which the system does not work.

Results may differ. As long as the system is used as instructed results are generally achieved very fast, however if the system is not followed properly, little to no results are experienced.

bit.ly/MyCatSpraying

In Conclusion

There really is no risk in trying out this product. With a no questions asked money-back guarantee, if things don't work out as you expected you get what you paid back.

Without risking anything, you will give yourself and your cat a chance to fix what's wrong and grow a little closer in the process. It's a deal worth every penny.

An experienced, old Brown bear sow carved herself out a ledge up above a river teeming with salmon. She is taking a break from feeding herself to feed her three cubs. They were born this spring and will stay with her 2-3 years.

Skaftá, Iceland, July 2024

Have you ever experienced something like this?

Getting started with editing my photos from Iceland felt unusually difficult. Normally, I can hardly wait to dive in—often before I even get back home. But not this time. Every time I sat down to sort through the photos, I felt a strange reluctance, almost a sense of repulsion.

I assume it has something to do with my desire to think in larger series—something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. But I’m finding it surprisingly difficult. There are many ways to turn a seemingly loose pile of photos into a coherent set. One approach I find particularly appealing is starting with 2-3 photos that inspire you. You edit them, bring out their character, and then look for others that complement the group. What “complement” means, of course, can be many things.

And that’s where I hit a wall. Nothing worked for weeks.

I was only able to break through when I decided to think in smaller series—not 12, 15 or so, but just 3 photos at a time. That worked. The different sets don’t necessarily fit together graphically, but clearly, I needed to start small.

Still, the intensity and length of the blockage really took me by surprise.

Whilst up in Skye with a workshop last week, we experienced every weather type imaginable. On arriving at Neist Point the rain was heavy, the wind was over 30mph and it was absolutely freezing.

We made our way over to the cliffs where the four of us got huddled down behind one of the smaller stone faces giving us reasonable shelter from the wind and rain. For the next two hours we stood there in awe at the wild weather driving over our heads and out towards the lighthouse. Image after image were filled with so much potential it was hard to pull ourselves away. This image was taken whilst huddled behind a rock in a good old west coast storm.

Most Scots complain about our weather and many photographers won't venture out in these conditions, but if you know how to exploit it... there is absolutely no better.

I'm sure photographers all over the planet would love the opportunity to experience and work with the conditions we benefit from on a daily basis. I wouldn't swap our climate for the world :-)

I'm not really on Flickr too much these days apart from using it as an additional gallery. Most of my time is spent over on Facebook as I find it much more powerful, quicker and easier to keep in touch. If your around drop in and say hi at www.facebook.com/billycurriephotography

Silo Art in the New South Wales Riverina town of Weethalle, on the Mid-Western Highway.

Just wonderful.

"Earlier this year, Bland Shire Council called for experienced artists to undertake the project at the Weethalle silos. They selected 38-year-old Mongolian-born muralist Heesco Khosnaran, an artist known for his social conscience and depictions of the likes of Donald Trump and Rupert Murdoch."

I've experienced an artistic dry spell, lately. Went out on the St. Johns River with friends yesterday with my iPhone as my only camera, and ended up surprising myself with some lovely shots, and I began to feel excited about photography again. This is not one of yesterday's shots -- it's a re-do of one that I was not quite satisfied with. This version is much better. I'll post some of my edited iPhone shots here in the next few days, too.

As often experienced, when weather is changing from good to bad or vice versa, one can catch some beautiful atmosphere at the mountains. At this day a front came in, the evening before being already cloudy but rather boring. Most fortunately, I took a look out of the hut at 4:30 and noticed a lot of clouds that had gone down to the valley while some other clouds were still higher at the mountains and above. Interesting enough to give this morning a chance and to go up to Scharfreiter which is only half an hour from Tölzer Hütte.

In the east the sky was rather clear so the sun came out just in time and I could get some beautiful impressions.

Here we can look from the green summit to main chain of Karwendel.
