Lake Nahuel Huapi is immersed within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, which is the oldest of the Argentine national parks.
It was created by the Argentine government in 1934, on the base of the donation of 3 square leagues (7,000 ha) carried out by Francisco Pascasio Moreno for this purpose.
The park covers 717,261 ha, in a strip of about 60 km wide for about 170 km from north to south, lying on the Andes mountain range. The Nahuel Huapi National Park is internationally famous for its attractive photography. It is located between the altitudes of 700 masl and 3400 masl, it stands out for its representative ecosystems of the Patagonian Andes, inhabiting more than a thousand higher botanical species, and some 300 species of vertebrate animals.
Getting to know Victoria Island and witnessing the spectacle of the Bosque de Arrayanes is a pleasure that has been experienced by millions of visitors to this National Park but still awaits, with its intact navigation conditions, the next tourists who, like us, arrive to visit them.
The sun was positioned low, beyond the horizon in this Pitt River, winter scene.
To the right you can see a couple operating a drone,
If you zoom in, you may see the two illuminated red lights of the drone as it hovers slightly to the right, just above their heads..
The light captured and illuminated the cabin enclosure on the aluminum river boat, seen moored at a dock.
There is silhouette of a river barge also on the right.

A very very special moment we experienced while standing on this plane watching this sun dog forming and turning the whole winter landscape into something utterly magical.
This fine feathered fellow stood on this rock preening his feathers for quite some time. This was taken at Catalina Cove on the northwest coast of Aruba. This cove has maybe the best from-shore snorkeling I've ever experienced; as soon as you get in the water you're surrounded by beautiful fish in the pristine water. The cove is quite rocky but most of the rocks are submerged and teeming with life. There are beautiful beaches just before and beyond the cove.
Despite all I have seen and experienced, I still get the same simple thrill out of glimpsing a tiny patch of snow in a high mountain gully and feel the same urge to climb towards it.

Another shot of Long Beach in the opposite direction.
The resort hotel in the right is Saigon Phu Quoc Resort.
A very long pier in the distance is for cruise ships as the Duong Dong river port is too shallow for large vessels.
Phu Quoc experienced a construction boom throughout the 2010s. In that decade, new beaches were discovered in the north, south and east of the island for large-scale construction projects.
I have not seen the new places but informed that there is a safari park, a Disneyland like resort, the longest cable car in Southeast Asia connecting the main island with an off-shore islet etc., which I personally think irrelevant in Phu Quoc.
These unique tourism sites are conceived by emerging Vietnamese entrepreneurs who probably have a different perception about tourism from mine. They, however, may be consistent with the needs of their domestic market.
Let's see how sustainable they would be in the long run.
Experienced one of the worst weathers in recent summers in Iceland that day with extremely windy conditions and heavy rain. Captured this from the viewpoint at Hraunfossar Lava Falls.
Hraunfossar - Lava Falls - are beautiful and unusual natural phenomena. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava and run as tiny waterfalls and rapids into the Hvita River.
Burrard Inlet with ships on the horizon, a brilliant setting sun and, one large cloud, that kind of resembles a flame throwing dragon of sorts.

At Eeersterivier, we experienced very high winds and of course equally high seas. Climbing down by the band of rocks which acts as a barrier between the beach and the sea, I had to make a quick getaway, but not before managing this shot!
When I recently spent a weekend in Prague, I experienced and captured many great moments. But there was exactly one that led me to the beautiful city on the river Vltava and that was this one.
I once wished, if only for a few minutes, to stand completely alone on the famous Charles Bridge. A bridge that is crossed by thousands of people every day in a city that never really comes to a rest.
And indeed I succeeded. After I had to wait a bit until the last party-goers had more or less straightforward crossed the river on their way to bed, I was the only one. What a great feeling.
It really didn't take very long until the first photographer (the first one after me) joined me and the moment was over. But these few minutes are now mine forever.

Well what an incredible sunrise me and my three clients experienced this morning on my one day autumnal Lake District workshop at Windermere.
We were driving en-route to Rydal to shoot the tree when the colours in my minibus wing mirrors lit up with stunning pinks and blues. Without hesitation I decided to park up at Waterhead and walk down towards Holme Crag. It was an inspired choice due to the copious amounts of beautiful little boats that made for great subjects. Here's one such boat that enjoyed being surrounded by the mist that rolled on the surface of the water.
HUGE thanks to Carl, Dave and Dean for their company today. It was a really enjoyable day's photography and a quick hi to Chris Sale, a YouTube vlogger who I bumped into on the shoreline of Rydal mid-morning. It was great to chat with you Chris.

"Tugs have been towing aggregate-laden barges out of British Columbia’s Pitt River and on down the Fraser River since the days of wooden scows and steam-powered tugs. Since the earliest days the boats have had to contend with the railway bridge about three miles upstream from the Pitt’s confluence with the Fraser River. Over the generations, skippers have learned a lot about the tides and river currents that challenged the old steam power and continue to challenge the modern diesel-powered tugs. This is not stuff that is taught in maritime training schools. It is knowledge that is learned by making the run with an experienced captain and finally by new captains feeling their way into the job."
I thought I would jump on the Year in Review bandwagon and select 9 of my favorite landscapes to post commemorating the past year. I have also created a Year In Review "Nightscapes" that I will be posting this evening. Hope you like them!!! :-)
This year has been an exciting and nerve racking year for me. Despite being unemployed for the first 3 months of the year and my medical issues with my kidney stone, my photography opportunities were plentiful. I have been lucky enough to have found a new “Bro-Tog” buddy Bill McIntosh and we have been shooting together at every available opportunity throughout the year. Then I met up with Wayne Pinkston and Quanah Parker for my annual Dark Sky trip through the southwest during the summertime Milky Way season and managed to grab a few good sunrises and sunsets.(BottomLeftCorner andTopLeftCorner). Then later in the fall I was fortunate to have a great time shooting fall color(CenterBottom) and had an incredible trip up to Oregon to shoot the eclipse with Ralf Rohner.(CenterPhoto) For my winter trip I spent that with David Swindler of Action Photo Tours scouting the more remote locations found in the southwest(CenterRowRightandLeft). Then to top off the year Bill and I experienced an incredible sunset last night in Death Valley. The sky lit up gloriously as we said Good-Bye to 2017. I'll be posting that one later.
Thank you all for being so supportive over the past year. I deeply appreciate your encouragement and am truly grateful for that. If you like my photos then please share them with your friends or add it to your gallery, and as always your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!!

THE SWEETEST TABOO - SADE
FEAR/TEMOR
Standing by and letting me float free
you stand so close; I can taste your breath
my heart is racing, but my soul is slow
I am running to nowhere until I hit the wall
You play to me late into the night
you listen to me singing all day long
we hold each other so distantly
both scared to run to where we can't hide
let me closer into your arms
wrap me with love and tender kisses
walk out with me; tell me all you know
and dance me to the golden hour
I don't think it at all possible
to fall in love and remain as friends
so I let you walk alone on your reconfigured journey
it's the only way this will always end
I can write and re-write every tiny detail
but it will always play out just like this
we had a good run for all this time
but it could never be ended so simply with a lover's kiss
So you walk off like a cowboy into the sunset
and I'll drive alone along parallel lines
you take the right road, it's the right road for you
and I'll take what's left of the setting sun
The power lines above us are filled with energy
I can feel the tingling in my head
but they can't raise the flatness all around us
or erase the memories of the things we said
Fear is something that I learned from the age of seven,
do you remember that day, the day I drowned
I knew then what I'll always know
when something's lost, it can never be re-found
What you've got to do is create
your own sweet reality within your pure but burgeoning mind
nothing and no-one can take this from you
so you learn to be cruel just to be kind
You'll be ok; I know you'll make it
you're not so lost you can't be found
but what love has taught me; I know that life has brought me
the imagination and strength to stand my ground

Our trip we could, as already mentioned wg. Storm and heavy rains are delayed, but somehow there is a good side to everything - due to one of the heaviest rains Madeira had ever experienced, roads were partly blocked due to Landslides or falling rocks blocked - we couldn't do our original hike along the Levada Pinaculu like this either - but the alternative we did from Encumeada was a hit - with some waterfalls and these filled to the brim - rather unusual for mid-June...
Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. Now however, it seems that summer has finally arrived, albeit late, with glorious days of summer sunshine that bring out beautiful blooms on all the flowers.
This includes my "Nahema" rose in my rear garden which grows by my back terrace. My garden is quite shady, but it does live in a spot where it gets afternoon sun.
"Nahema" was bred by Georges Delbard, in France, from "Grand Siecle" and "Heritage" in 1991 and released in France in 2006. "Nahema" has established a reputation as one of the best fragrant climbers on the market. It produces masses of highly fragrant and deeply cupped old-fashioned blooms with velvety petals of delicate almond blossom pink. This rose blooms in profusion throughout the season with a strong perfume of citrus, peach, apricot, pear and rose. The renowned perfume of the Guerlain range of perfumes is based on the essence of this rose.
This shot was taken in near perfect light, darkness created by Photoshop. The wonderful mountain of Anteallach NW Scotland, a truly spectacular walk for the more experienced mountain walker.

I was uninspired trying to come up with something interesting for this theme until I looked in my "Measure & Level" drawer and found a couple old rulers that have obviously been around for a while.
The green smear of paint on the top ruler was my grandfather's tool color and the one on the bottom is actually stamped "Made in the U.S.A."-- very uncommon these days.
Anyway, Happy Macro Monday everyone! :)
A beautiful barbet endemic to the Malabar region of India. This is a vast global biodiversity hotspot from the tip of South India and spans most of the western coast.
The barbet is spectacularly rich in colors and absolutely amazing to look at. These are endemic to the Malabar region. They are small birds, maybe about 11-13 cms and just like Coppersmith Barbets - another common barbet found much of India.
Shot this picture in a forest camp situated right in the middle of a very active area. This tree was right above our room and the nest is exactly on the underside of the branch below the birds tail (a small inverted hollow). The birds have nested almost a month in advance as per the highly experienced bird guide in that place. The chicks are out and the bird was actively getting food every 30 mins. Just like other birds, it would check the surroundings for prey before it gets into the nest.
This was shot around noon when the bird was most active, so the light was a bit harsh.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

Melbourne has experienced a wonderful Indian summer this year, and as a result, not only are the Autumnal colours starting to appear, but there are still plenty of beautiful blooms.
I spotted these "Red Cherry" French Marigolds on a walk. They stood out against their green backdrop with their showy red and orange petals.
Tagetes is a genus of annual or perennial, mostly herbaceous plants in the sunflower family Asteraceae. They are among several groups of plants known in English as marigolds.
Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter last year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. However, summer did eventually arrive, albeit late, with glorious days of sunshine that brought out beautiful blooms on all the flowers. This included my Elina Rose, which is one of the strongest rose bushes in my front garden.
Elina is a very prolific, constantly flowering Hybrid Tea rose bred in Northern Ireland by the Dickson family in 1983. It was released in 1984. Each rich cream coloured flower comprises around 25 petals. Elina’s perfect classic rose shape, long straight stems, mild fragrance and attractive foliage ensures it is a popular cut flower variety and sought after by florists.
seeing and recording are almost simultaneous. His output is limited only by his ability to see. For this reason it has always been my belief that an experienced photographer, given the means to devote himself entirely to creative expression, should be able to produce a tremendous amount of valuable work.

The Dust Bowl was the result of a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies during the 1930s. The phenomenon was caused by a combination of natural factors (severe drought) and man-made factors: a failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent wind erosion, most notably the destruction of the natural topsoil by settlers in the region. The drought came in three waves: 1934, 1936, and 1939–1940, but some regions of the High Plains experienced drought conditions for as long as eight years.
The Dust Bowl has been the subject of many cultural works, including John Steinbeck's 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath, the folk music of Woody Guthrie, and Dorothea Lange's photographs depicting the conditions of migrants, particularly Migrant Mother, taken in 1936.
Hell must be experienced
A world unique has been opened in the Czech Republic - HELL, which has no analogues in Europe or anywhere else in the world. You can find it near Hlinsko in Bohemia in the village Čertovina. The exceptional structure reaches a depth of 12 meters below the ground, where there are hundreds of meters of corridors and caves, and then the sky is eight meters.
The building resembles a giant overturned ship 65 meters long and 14 meters wide. A legend is attached to it, which says that in 666 devils sailed on hellships and searched for sinful souls. One night, however, they were caught in a violent storm and the whole ship turned upside down. Lucifer took his huge pitchfork, stabbed it directly in front of the bow of the overturned ship, and said, "Hell will never go to heaven!" He ordered all the furriers to kick and dig until they dug their HELL. And sinful souls in the earthly world who were not afraid to settle nearby called this place Devil's.
We experienced a lot of rain and cloudy weather while staying in Page, Arizona. The back country roads we wanted to travel were largely inaccessible. Thus we visited Horseshoe Bend several times because we could travel there on paved roads. The 1,000 feet deep canyon is amazing. While we did see the sun burst through storm clouds during our stay, I confess it wasn't at the time of visiting Horseshoe Bend. But the magic of Photoshop helped me get the sky I wanted!
Happy Slider Sunday!
Death Valley is best experienced in the morning and during Winter.
At this time of year, you are alone and there are massive weather fronts that travel over the valley. The desert pools with water and the sky's are full of attitude.

Experienced some moments of disassociation the other morning as I ventured out into a thick layer of ground fog. The fog created a weird mental disconnect as the ordinary landscape was rendered as a monochromatic otherworld. This alone was more than plenty for my creative mind to act upon. But as I lingered, I found the brightening sky to the east particularly fascinating. I tend to be a creature of the night and my time here (and in general) is usually the later part of day and evening, sometime even past sunset. My entire psyche revolves around sunset and seeing (and composing photos) with light emanating from the western sky. My small world looks completely different during those rare occasions when I am out shooting in the early morning. Invigorating to see the visual tables turned in this manner and sense that I am exploring familiar ground for the first time. I invariably find myself shooting from angles that make absolutely no sense at other times of day. Here I love the layering effect of diminishing clarity as the landscape is enveloped by fog as it recedes from the lens. In my mind, nothing exists beyond what I can see. In these moments my tiny universe shrinks even further. Very odd to feel such confinement when standing outdoors in an open space; a rich visual and visceral dichotomy.
We recently spent an hour at an Alpaca farm with our family whom we haven’t seen in a year. It was a small farm that reserved the hour time slot just for our little group. We had the pleasure of watching our one year old grandson visit with several animals on the farm. We were all able to touch the Alpaca and feel their amazing fur. What a joy to see the world through the eyes of a child. In this image, you can see my daughter and I standing in the doorway and being reflected in the eye of this animal. We experienced great joy connecting with family finally!
This is a sight I had never seen before last year, Gannets flying in tight formation the crucial thing is the date March 1st . Its not a great shot but I wanted to keep a record
We had gone to Bempton just to walk the cliff tops not really expecting much bird activity . However a RSPB warden told us that the Gannets were just beginning to the return to the cliffs and they arrive back in large groups . When they have mated they tend to hunt individually
Northern Gannets mate for life. Young birds reach maturity between the ages of four and five. They begin breeding between March and April. Northern Gannets mainly breed in colonies and breeding sites, also called “gannetries”, on cliffs and offshore islands. They tend to stay loyal to their breeding sites and return to the colony they were born in. Experienced adults usually arrive at the breeding grounds earlier than juveniles, to re-bond with their mate and to defend their territory against rival seabirds.
Their migration routes differ depending on their age. The timing and duration of their migration could also substantially change the geographical location of “gannetries” can also influence the migration patterns of this seabird.
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.
I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO
WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .
We experienced four seasons in the one day as we ascended Ben Lomond, last Tuesday! There was quite a bit of cloud cover at the top but I managed to capture the rainbow peeping through below us, before we retreated from the oncoming rainstorm (which contained some snowflakes!). Scottish summer weather at its best!
