After a very long period of grey, the clouds finally cleared for one happy day, to be too quickly replaced by more grey today. There is nothing quite like a sunny winter day's blue and white in a pristine environment...a sense I first experienced and remember well from my skiing days in Colorado. No mountains here but pristine nonetheless. (SOOC)

I don’t know about you, but I tend to remember the moment and the feeling I experienced when capturing an image. Then as I scroll back through my photo archives and come across a Pic that brings a smile, I want to share that image and hope that, in some small way, it makes your day a little bit better too.

Experienced on Lake Garda. View from Castello Scaligero. Malcesine, Italy.

It has been a while since I have experienced the spectacle of college “football” in the U.S. Maybe not as crazy as football in Europe or South America, but it has its own pageantry and craziness…Including the use of live mascots. Pictured here Ralphie #6 or #8 running before the start of the game. I won’t even address the issues of stress for these animal mascots, will save that for another time perhaps, but admittedly it is fun and crazy to see the handlers try and keep up with Ralphie. Past Ralphie’s have dragged handlers, run over them and have generally run amuck! Perhaps a little payback as less than 100 years ago, the American bison was teetering on the verge of extinction. By the beginning of the 20th century, the species' numbers fell from herds of roughly 40 million to less than 1,000 individuals. The impact on Native Americans was devastating. OK dialing down the seriousness it was a great game and went into double overtime and despite rooting for OSU, CU won it and the fans stormed the field, including my son who is a freshman at CU!

This fine feathered fellow stood on this rock preening his feathers for quite some time. This was taken at Catalina Cove on the northwest coast of Aruba. This cove has maybe the best from-shore snorkeling I've ever experienced; as soon as you get in the water you're surrounded by beautiful fish in the pristine water. The cove is quite rocky but most of the rocks are submerged and teeming with life. There are beautiful beaches just before and beyond the cove.

She sits quiet in the classroom,

hardly talks to anyone

Always wishing she could just fit in,

while the other kids are having fun

She looks for someone who will understand,

but no one ever seems to wanna hear

Tells herelf she's the one to blame

If only she could disappear

She cries awake on her bed,

she lays, hoping they'll leave her alone

She thinks her only escape is to run away little girl, run

Run away little girl, run

The face she sees in the mirror

reflects the ugly things they say

She doesn't realize the hurt she tries to hide

Is what makes her feel this way

She cries awake on her bed,

she lays, praying they'll leave her alone

She wipes a tear from her face

And waits for her angel to come

She blames herself for the words they say

Inside she feels so numb

She thinks her only escape is to run away little girl, run

8-Sep Northern Utah experienced a destructive wind storm with gusts reaching 99 mph (159 km/h). 200,000 homes/businesses without power (I am one of those).

I prefer not to photograph destruction or bad things and instead try to find beauty in all. So naturally, I headed out to the Great Salt Lake!

Photographing out in the open was a real challenge; my tripod would not stay, so I shot handheld. The salt spray was everywhere, and I was coated in salt.

The Great Salt Lake - GPS is not the exact spot of the photo.

No need to comment – Just enjoy :-)

Experienced one of the worst weathers in recent summers in Iceland that day with extremely windy conditions and heavy rain. Captured this from the viewpoint at Hraunfossar Lava Falls.

Hraunfossar - Lava Falls - are beautiful and unusual natural phenomena. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava and run as tiny waterfalls and rapids into the Hvita River.

At Eeersterivier, we experienced very high winds and of course equally high seas. Climbing down by the band of rocks which acts as a barrier between the beach and the sea, I had to make a quick getaway, but not before managing this shot!

A special shout-out to all my Flickr friends and visitors, for taking the time to view and acknowledge my photography.

I appreciate your visits & kind words of support.

When I recently spent a weekend in Prague, I experienced and captured many great moments. But there was exactly one that led me to the beautiful city on the river Vltava and that was this one.

I once wished, if only for a few minutes, to stand completely alone on the famous Charles Bridge. A bridge that is crossed by thousands of people every day in a city that never really comes to a rest.

And indeed I succeeded. After I had to wait a bit until the last party-goers had more or less straightforward crossed the river on their way to bed, I was the only one. What a great feeling.

It really didn't take very long until the first photographer (the first one after me) joined me and the moment was over. But these few minutes are now mine forever.

Well what an incredible sunrise me and my three clients experienced this morning on my one day autumnal Lake District workshop at Windermere.

We were driving en-route to Rydal to shoot the tree when the colours in my minibus wing mirrors lit up with stunning pinks and blues. Without hesitation I decided to park up at Waterhead and walk down towards Holme Crag. It was an inspired choice due to the copious amounts of beautiful little boats that made for great subjects. Here's one such boat that enjoyed being surrounded by the mist that rolled on the surface of the water.

HUGE thanks to Carl, Dave and Dean for their company today. It was a really enjoyable day's photography and a quick hi to Chris Sale, a YouTube vlogger who I bumped into on the shoreline of Rydal mid-morning. It was great to chat with you Chris.

This Winter we experienced (so far) frost and cold temperatures only for a few days. Nevertheless it was a fresh and exciting experience just as during our hiking tour between Porta Westfalica and Bad Oeynhausen. Ostwestfalen, Germany

I have experienced something serious in my life. I have just returned from the hospital diagnosed with a heart attack. (Exactly they call it "Heart arrhythmia" ). I'll have to adapt and change my whole life now, even on flickr! My time will be even more limited than it is now, but I want to be faithful to all my friends here as much as possible. It may be that my comments will be a bit shorter and that I will not be active on flickr in between for a long time. I hope for your understanding, but my life and my health is important to me in this case. Maby it takes a long way to come back to my normal life. Please excuse me.

Sunrise Over Goscar Rock and Tenby, Pembrokeshire

Yesterday's sunrise over Tenby was absolutely stunning. Finally after twelve days on the road, I experienced a bit of colour and what a bit of colour it was too.

The tide was outgoing with left some part of the beach devoid of footprints bar the odd jogger and dog walker. The colours were stunning and built within a few minutes. Tenby is quite an elevated town and this allows for a wonderful position to photograph the harbour and Goscar Rock on the beach.

I used a Kase 10 Stop ND filter to slow the shutter speed down enough to smooth out the water, which on this occasion worked a treat. The clouds were moving very slowly so they appeared not to be been affected from the thirty second exposure time.

I shall return to Tenby in the future and see what other delights await but for now, I am delighted with how this turned out. I hope that you enjoy it too.

THE SWEETEST TABOO - SADE

FEAR/TEMOR

Standing by and letting me float free

you stand so close; I can taste your breath

my heart is racing, but my soul is slow

I am running to nowhere until I hit the wall

You play to me late into the night

you listen to me singing all day long

we hold each other so distantly

both scared to run to where we can't hide

let me closer into your arms

wrap me with love and tender kisses

walk out with me; tell me all you know

and dance me to the golden hour

I don't think it at all possible

to fall in love and remain as friends

so I let you walk alone on your reconfigured journey

it's the only way this will always end

I can write and re-write every tiny detail

but it will always play out just like this

we had a good run for all this time

but it could never be ended so simply with a lover's kiss

So you walk off like a cowboy into the sunset

and I'll drive alone along parallel lines

you take the right road, it's the right road for you

and I'll take what's left of the setting sun

The power lines above us are filled with energy

I can feel the tingling in my head

but they can't raise the flatness all around us

or erase the memories of the things we said

Fear is something that I learned from the age of seven,

do you remember that day, the day I drowned

I knew then what I'll always know

when something's lost, it can never be re-found

What you've got to do is create

your own sweet reality within your pure but burgeoning mind

nothing and no-one can take this from you

so you learn to be cruel just to be kind

You'll be ok; I know you'll make it

you're not so lost you can't be found

but what love has taught me; I know that life has brought me

the imagination and strength to stand my ground

I was uninspired trying to come up with something interesting for this theme until I looked in my "Measure & Level" drawer and found a couple old rulers that have obviously been around for a while.

The green smear of paint on the top ruler was my grandfather's tool color and the one on the bottom is actually stamped "Made in the U.S.A."-- very uncommon these days.

Anyway, Happy Macro Monday everyone! :)

Our trip we could, as already mentioned wg. Storm and heavy rains are delayed, but somehow there is a good side to everything - due to one of the heaviest rains Madeira had ever experienced, roads were partly blocked due to Landslides or falling rocks blocked - we couldn't do our original hike along the Levada Pinaculu like this either - but the alternative we did from Encumeada was a hit - with some waterfalls and these filled to the brim - rather unusual for mid-June...

Another fishing boat docked for the night in the small village of Alma on the Bay of Funday. Now this name of “Fundy Fury”, I can understand as I have experienced some of the fierce winds of the Maritimes. We actually drove down just after a light hurricane breezed through the Atlantic Provinces. That is another bonus of being retired. We can change our plans to avoid the bad weather! Then we get to enjoy the peaceful side of Fundy; like this scene.

Taken at Cookies&Porn - Hudson Valley... maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dark%20Secrets/143/63/23

Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. Now however, it seems that summer has finally arrived, albeit late, with glorious days of summer sunshine that bring out beautiful blooms on all the flowers.

This includes my "Nahema" rose in my rear garden which grows by my back terrace. My garden is quite shady, but it does live in a spot where it gets afternoon sun.

"Nahema" was bred by Georges Delbard, in France, from "Grand Siecle" and "Heritage" in 1991 and released in France in 2006. "Nahema" has established a reputation as one of the best fragrant climbers on the market. It produces masses of highly fragrant and deeply cupped old-fashioned blooms with velvety petals of delicate almond blossom pink. This rose blooms in profusion throughout the season with a strong perfume of citrus, peach, apricot, pear and rose. The renowned perfume of the Guerlain range of perfumes is based on the essence of this rose.

Last week before sunrise at a small lake in the Wittlich Valley:

This play of colors appeared in the morning sky for about 5 minutes.

A change in the weather and heavy clouds were predicted in the morning, so I set off early. But I hadn't expected this explosion of color and had never experienced anything like it there before.

Melbourne has experienced a wonderful Indian summer this year, and as a result, not only are the Autumnal colours starting to appear, but there are still plenty of beautiful blooms.

I spotted these "Red Cherry" French Marigolds on a walk. They stood out against their green backdrop with their showy red and orange petals.

Tagetes is a genus of annual or perennial, mostly herbaceous plants in the sunflower family Asteraceae. They are among several groups of plants known in English as marigolds.

Londoners nicknamed it the "Wobbly Bridge" after pedestrians experienced an alarming swaying motion on its opening day. The bridge was closed later that day and, after two days of limited access, it was closed again for almost two years so that modifications and repairs could be made to keep the bridge stable and stop the swaying motion. It reopened in February 2002.

The bridge is located between Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Railway Bridge. Its southern end is near the Globe Theatre, the Bankside Gallery, and Tate Modern, while its northern end is next to the City of London School below St Paul's Cathedral. The bridge's alignment is such that a clear view (i.e. a "terminating vista") of St Paul's south facade is presented from across the river, framed by the bridge supports.

First light on some of the Ten Peaks reflected in Moraine Lake. My soul was singing as I experienced this memorable morning. The air was crisp and chilly, all was quiet (the buses hadn't arrived yet; had it to myself) and the show was amazing. Still smiling from this special dawn.

A couple more shots from this lovely dawn in comments:

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

" ...she experienced each year this lifting of the spirits as August slipped away."

I know many who don't share my sentiments for the passing of summer....yet, I dearly love this time of year and look forward to the cozy, nestled at home coming months....my most loved of all.

Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. Now however, it seems that summer has finally arrived, albeit late, with glorious days of summer sunshine that bring out beautiful blooms on all the flowers. This includes my Elina Rose, which is one of the strongest rose bushes in my front garden.

Elina is a very prolific, constantly flowering Hybrid Tea rose bred in Northern Ireland by the Dickson family in 1983. It was released in 1984. Each rich cream coloured flower comprises around 25 petals. Elina’s perfect classic rose shape, long straight stems, mild fragrance and attractive foliage ensures it is a popular cut flower variety and sought after by florists.

Melbourne has experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which is now bleeding well and truly into a wetter and greyer than average spring and summer, however on the rare sunny days we are currently getting, the showing of flowers and blossoms is beautiful.

This includes my "Nahema" rose in my rear garden which grows by my back terrace. My garden is quite shady, but it does live in a spot where it gets afternoon sun. We have had a few sunny and warm days the last week or so, so it has finally started blooming! This is my first flower for summer!

"Nahema" was bred by Georges Delbard, in France, from "Grand Siecle" and "Heritage" in 1991 and released in France in 2006. "Nahema" has established a reputation as one of the best fragrant climbers on the market. WOW, what a sunset me and my 1-2-1 tuition day client Ian experienced this afternoon in the Lake District. This sure was an incredible sunset. The clouds were amazing.

This photo is a blend of two photos, the mountain and sky were taken at 1/15 second while the water was shot at 3.2 seconds. The reason for blending the two together is that I felt that the clouds were just a tad soft at 3.2 seconds and I preferred the sharp and detailed look of the clouds instead.

It sure was the most impressive and evocative sunset that I have ever witnessed in the Lakes District to date and I have been photographing the Lakes twelve years now and visiting it a great deal longer.

This image is a blend of two photos. One for the clouds and the fells and one for the water. This allowed me to capture the clouds nice and sharp and detailed and the water a short exposure to soften it down a little.

His departing gifts

As the fog began to lift along Safety Sound, more and more Short-eared owls came into view. Some were in flight, others consuming prey down deep in the tundra grasses while others, like this assumed parent and offspring sat and watched my movements.

It was several seconds into our photo session that my cameras focus and my concentration on capturing those brilliant yellow eyes allowed my mind to realize the second set below.

This was the last photo taken on my probable last Alaskan adventure. I could have done yet another U-turn and taken even more photos of the dozens of owls behind me, but when I lowered my lens after capturing forever this moment, I became overwhelmed in the realization of His blessing. For me, the minutes sitting and just looking into each other’s eyes, regardless of how the shot might come out, was worth every negative aspect of the trip itself.

To turn around and try to get more photos, to be more of a distraction from the hunt felt greedy and unappreciative of the gift given. I put my car in drive, verbally thanked the pair for our time together and headed to the airport for the first leg of my trip home to those I missed terribly, my greatest gifts of all…blessed and refreshed!

Adventure before dementia!
