We have a Christmas tradition we call ‘stocking fillers’. Small not very expensive gifts are bought for each other. This is one such from Mrs S. Is she suggesting something?
Just a simple close-up shot of the corners of £20, £5 and £10 notes. I don’t love money but love the designs and colours on banknotes wherever I come across them around the world.
This is Abbey Road in the market town of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire where the houses have views over the River Nidd. Abbey Road follows the banks of the River Nidd
Among other things Knaresborough is famous for its Norman Castle, Ursula Southeil (c. 1488–1561), known as Mother Shipton, who was a medieval seer said to have been born in a cave south of the town, John Metcalf, known as "Blind Jack", who lost his sight in childhood and was a violin player, local guide, bridgebuilder, and roadmaker. A public house in the market square bears his name and St Robert, a 12th-century hermit whose cave can be found near the River Nidd further along Abbey Road
For a place that hasn't been used in a few months. Voluntary return to the office can begin next week.
Have a great Thursday.
No matter how chaotic the outside world (or inside of mind) can get, you can count on the fact that this savage beast is definitely soothed by music. (It's a real shame that idiom is actually a misquote but we wont get into the origins of phrases at the moment).
Right now I want to curl up with some good tunes, a fat spliff and chill without 200 pounds of combat gear on while jumping through fiery hoops... before it kills me.

Such an lovely and iconic Tacoma view that we have come to know and love. It is visable in many directions. Unfortunately, it is unsafe (they say) and needs a very expensive upgrade. The funds are not secured yet and the church is closed. I don't think the steeple is lit at night anymore either. Prayers for them getting the funding!
It was a fun one to shoot from the back side, off of 34th street, with the 100-400 S and polarizer.
Thank you for your warm and kind words, and comments on a cold March day in the NW. You are all very much appreciated!

Nice to look; but at these prices you could buy a car instead.
To be honest I have never understood the desire for jewellery so expensive you would be afraid to wear it.

The Continental Mark II is an ultra-luxury coupé that was sold by the Continental Division of Ford for the 1956 and 1957 model years. The only product line ever marketed by Continental during its existence, the Mark II served as the worldwide flagship vehicle of Ford Motor Company. The vehicle derived its name from European manufacturing practice, with "Mark II" denoting a second generation (succeeding the 1939–1948 Lincoln Continental).
As the most expensive American-produced automobile of the time, the Mark II was marketed against the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Produced solely as a two-door hardtop coupe, the Mark II used standard Lincoln mechanical components, including its "Y-block" V8 and automatic transmission. The rest of the vehicle was largely hand-assembled, leading Ford to lose thousands of dollars for each example produced.
Following the 1957 model year, Ford discontinued its flagship Continental division, with the division phased into Lincoln from 1958. For 1969, Ford revived the chronology of the Mark series with the debut of the (second) Continental Mark III coupe, leading to five successive generations; the model line currently ends with the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII coupe. In modified form, Lincoln still uses the four-point star emblem introduced by the Mark II; each version of the Mark series (and the 1982-1987 Lincoln Continental) was styled with a "Continental" spare-tire trunklid.
Intended as a successor to the Lincoln Continental, effectively making its predecessor a Mark I, the Continental Mark II made its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 1955.The Mark II debuted in the United States at Ford Motor Company headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. With a $9,966 base price (equivalent to $95,100 today), the Mark II was the most expensive domestic-produced automobile sold in the United States at the time. The only extra cost option offered for the Mark II was a $595 ($5,700 today) air conditioner. Despite its high price, Ford Motor Company estimated it lost nearly $1,000 ($9500 today) for every unit produced
To streamline production, powertrain components were adapted from the Lincoln model line and checked through the division's quality-control program during production. The 368 cubic-inch Lincoln Y-block V8 powered the Mark II, paired with the 3-speed Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. For 1956, the engines produced 285 hp, increased to 300 hp for 1957
Total productions for the two years produced was 3005 units including about one half dozen preproduction and prototypes.

"Guilty Pleasure" (PACKAGING COOKIES)
In the past, cookies were something very special. People only ate them when there was a party. Cookies were too expensive to eat every day. Nowadays, people eat a lot of cookies. The Dutch eat an average of sixteen kilos of cookies per year. That is about 64 packets, bags or boxes of cookies. That is why a lot of cookies are baked. And not just one type, but thirty different types. Because tastes simply differ.

King's Cross, London. A lovely old van selling ice cream but the prices are a bit eye watering. It reminded me of these two young ladies in Burnley, Lancashire.
It's mainly very expensive clothes for people who spend summer holidays on boats. With summer over, I don't think there will be many customers. There was only one boat left in the harbour after I saw the last three sailboats leave. The canal will now be closed until next summer.

Early last year, the Winter was a fantastic birding season - my first year of birding and had seen so many raptors in action. I remember the day I shot this swallow very well since it was quit eventful.
I was driving on the dry lake bed and there were around 30-40 swallows continually circling my vehicle. And when I Stopped, they also stopped. Some landed on a nice perch, others on nearby rocks, but most of them on the ground.
I took several shots including this and drove again, only to get stuck in the mud for more than an hour. Met several nice people that day who helped my vehicle out. The first of several times I got stuck in the lake bed and made it an expensive affair to repair the vehicle.
Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Have a nice weekend.
The Limmatquai is the street that runs along the right bank of the Limmat in Zurich's old town. It leads from Bellevue down to Central. At the Limmatquai lie the Grossmünster, the Wasserkirche, many guild houses and the Zurich Town Hall. Most of the houses on the Limmatquai are classified as worthy of protection, and the townscape of the Limmat region as a whole is protected.
I wanted to get a walk in and decided that with the wind and forecast of cloud, a flat walk along the river Ure and back through the Bolton Estate was the way to go - with a visit to Wensley church graveyard as well
A couple of days ago I broke a tooth, which involved an essential and expensive visit to the dentist. To take advantage of a brief escape from lockdown, while out in the car I decided to visit a tree I know, to cheer myself up. By tree, I don't mean the occasional tiny windswept hawthorn bushes which are more often found West Penwith, but a 'proper' tree - quite rare at this end of Cornwall. After enduring the few weeks of gales we've had, the oak was looking a bit lacklustre in the flat afternoon light, but still sported a few russet leaves. I added a texture for a bit of extra interest.

Does £10 a kilo sound expensive to you? I just checked the online price at a major supermarket, and loose tomatoes are there for £1.75 a kg. OK, probably not so tasty, and not organic, but I can't help feeling these prices are aimed at clueless visitors.
I guess if you are going to spend 20 dollars on fuel to get a train picture you might as well get a pretty one. At least I didn't have to fly here I guess.
Unbeknownst to me, an extremely early 925 went through Oamaru at 5:30 pm today, but I managed to catch it in time to snap the train passing through this coastal vista at Shag Point.
With a short holiday-length train, only the lead loco was running, and the blue DC was a bonus. Managed another three pics before the clouds from the south encroached, but this one wins for me.

We had a significant ice storm early this morning. I went out to take some photos. I had my Olympus E-M5 Mk3 with my Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 lens. To make a long story short, I slipped and fell down the front steps and snapped the lens clean off the body of my camera.
The camera body suffered significant damage and is probably not repairable for any reasonable cost. However, the lens survived and seems none the worse for wear. And since the lens is worth more than the body, I guess that was the desirable outcome.
.... and expensive apartments can now be found in Williamsburg.
A view from the Williamsburg Bridge into what will be the new, gentrified Williamsburg waterfront complex dominated by the Domino Sugar Refinery.
From the mid 1870s until WWII New York dominated sugar production worldwide. The decline in production led the American Sugar Refining Company to sell this relic of New York's industrial past to developers for $55 million in 2004.
Plans to tear down the original factory to build 2200 residential housing units, a waterfront esplanade, retail stores, etc., brought preservationists out to the waterfront in droves. In 2007 the Landmarks Preservation Society came to the rescue by approving landmark status for the original refinery section of the factory and the Domino Sugar sign. Although, several lawsuits pertaining to landmarks status of the entire 11.2 acre complex and surrounding buildings are still pending, according to recent newspaper articles, the development plans are underway.
I wonder if there's anyway to get into that building..........
Well this is my first image since January this year and to get my Mojo back (could be a expensive way of doing it) I’m trying a new telescope with focal reducer to get over 2° field of view. This scope is a new/refurbished “Explore Scientific 102mm F7 APO Carbon” kindly on loan/test from Kerin at Telescope house with option to buy. I hope I’ve done the Telescope justice with my image.
Note:
I plan to be at the Herstmonceux astronomy festival between the 2nd & 4th Sep 2022 and can be found hanging around the Telescope House stand or the beer tent later in the day.

When things don't go exactly as planned! I had hoped to use a star tracker for this shot, but, as I hadn't tried it before I wanted to use it i realised that i had left a vital part at home. So it was old school for this shot, lots of short exposures stacked in sequator. And I got a parking ticket at 1am in the morning
The photo challenge of week 38 was “SIGNS”. When I saw this sign at a petrol station along the highway, I thought: more than 2 euros for a liter of petrol (fuel). Ridiculous! So that's why I took this picture, of a really bad sign.
