I managed to visit Kangaroo Island during my trip to Adelaide for the opening of the ANZANG exhibition at the SA Museum which includes my "Stormlight & Stardust" image. This is from a bay on the island being belted by storms over the Southern Ocean. Next stop from the edge here is Antarctica! It's been a long while since I've been able to shoot any seascapes, a conscious effort to expand the portfolio in other areas.

Stilpnia vitriolina (Scrub Tanager / Tangara Rastrojera)

The Scrub Tanager is a common open country bird of the Colombian and Ecuadorian Andes. Due to its preference for scrub and bushy areas, it is most easily found in dry intermontane ‘rainshadow’ valleys but is expanding into more humid areas in the wake of human disturbance.

The Scrub Tanager is identified by its silvery greenish plumage, rust-colored cap and black mask. In further contrast to this typically gregarious genus, the Scrub Tanager most often is encountered as solitary pairs.

More brightly colored than most wrens, and with a rich musical song, Carolina Wrens are common in open woods and backyards in the southeast. There they busily explore brush piles and low tangles. The adults live in pairs all year, and they may "duet" at any season, with the female giving a chattering note while the male sings. The northern edge of this species' range varies over time: it gradually expands northward during series of mild years, then gets knocked southward again by very severe winters.

Found this one in my backyard in Lake Wales, Florida.

Macro Mondays - Tape

Happy Macro Monday everyone.

Dolly was a bit miffed she'd put on a few pounds over Christmas. And that tape measure she'd got out of the Christmas cracker, was proof she wasn't going to fit into her Summer dresses.

PS ... for us mere mortals, the tape measure is tiny and totally useless for us.

Avon Inn is an historic inn located in Avon, USA, in Livingston County, New York. The main block was built in the 1840s as a residence in the Greek Revival style. The five bay structure features a two-story portico supported by massive Ionic columns.

In 1882, the building was expanded and remodeled for use as a sanitarium. It was expanded and remodeled in 1912, when it was converted for use as an inn and banquet hall. At this time a notable Colonial Revival style dining room was adde

I'm not sure why these are called Inca Doves. Reportedly, they've never inhabited the Andes Mountains of Peru where the Inca Empire thrived. They do live in Mexico and southern US states, however. And apparently they're expanding northward. Look out Colorado, they're coming. These are very small doves, just a little bigger than a sparrow.

Expanding Upwards...

Monday morning I woke up and looked out the window and noticed a heavy cloud cover and the sun was just starting to break the horizon. i could see the hint of a golden yellow sunrise and hoped i wouldn't miss it.

I made my way down to the park and as I crossed the tracks I looked at the rising sun; the colours were enhanced by the dark cloud filled sky above. I had to snap off a few quick shots to capture what I was seeing. I think this shot does it justice.

In cubistic style

by Antony Gormley

---

In the town near which the secretary grew up and where he went to school for many years, there is a problematic monument, a "war memorial" for the dead of the (First) World War, which was later expanded for the Second World War. It was erected in 1936, and those who know the style of that period know what to expect. Since a few years there is at least a text panel for historical-critical discussion and also a "counter monument" in sight (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weinheimer_Kriegerdenkmal).

Since the secretary photographs monuments, he always thought that he would also have to deal with this highly problematic work once, but had hardly any opportunity and also quite a lot of respect. During a short visit this summer, however, he was there with his camera and got to work. Here the pictures are presented now in loose sequence one after the other.

The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, commonly referred to as the Château Frontenac, is a historic hotel in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The hotel is situated in Old Quebec, within the historic district's Upper Town, on the southern side of Place d'Armes. The Château Frontenac was designed by Bruce Price, and was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway company. The hotel is managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.

Opened in 1893, the Châteauesque-styled building has 18 floors; its 79.9-metre (262-foot) height is augmented by its 54-metre (177-foot) ground elevation. It is one of the first completed grand railway hotels, and was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1981. The hotel was expanded on three occasions, with the last major expansion taking place in 1993.

Quebec City was built on the north bank of the Saint Lawrence River, where it narrows and meets the mouth of the Saint-Charles River. Old Quebec is located on top and at the foot of Cap-Diamant, which is on the eastern edge of a plateau called the promontory of Quebec (Quebec hill). Because of this topographic feature, the oldest and most urbanized borough of La Cité-Limoilou can be divided into upper and lower town. North of the hill, the Saint Lawrence Lowlands is flat and has rich, arable soil. Past this valley, the Laurentian Mountains lie to the north of the city but its foothills are within the municipal limits.

The castle Raesfeld is a water castle in Raesfeld in district Borken, North Rhine-Westphalia. The history of the castle dates back to the beginnings of the 12th Century back. End of the 16th Century was the castle of the Lords of Raesfeld in the possession of derer von Velen. Mid-17th Century was to expand the empire, Count Alexander II of Velen the castle to the Royal Palace in the Renaissance style. In the first half of the 18th Century died out to the family of the von Velen Raesfeld, the castle was inhabited only irregularly, and fell gradually. At the beginning of the 19th Century were demolished parts of the plant or to the 20th Century used as an agricultural estate. After the Second World War were the state of North Rhine-Westphalia restored as a new owner. Today it is the location used for cultural events and a restaurant. Since 2007, we can marry here.
