This handsome male Indigo Bunting paid a brief visit while I was waiting at a distance from the Flicker nest that appears in the following frames. While I was staying out of the way of the Flickers, I "park" myself up the road where Ive been able to see a bevy of Warblers and even a Black-billed Cuckoo....its been a terrific spot for me . The Indigo Bunting's breeding range includes Eastern and Southern Ontario and Quebec and extends as far as Manitoba when the recorded sightings dwindle off, they migrate this far north from as far away as Northern South and Central America. Its reallly a striking looking bird isnt it! Thanks to the Flickers ( seen in the next set of photos here ) for being where I discovered them! Sweet isnt it!

Following the cut through the sand hills made by the Middle Loup River, westbound empties wait for permission on to Alliance. The train is stopped at Seneca, NE and the Stable Productions Exotic Animal Ranch is in the background. Home to zebras, water buffalo, elk, reindeer and other exotics, the only thing from out-of-town I caught in the frame was a Kansas City Southern SD70ACe.

I remember a few years back when I had seen a bunch of photos of these beautiful spiders, but never an actual one. I thought they must be some exotic species from another country. Then I read that they were around, but found that hard to believe. After all, I've been poking around in nature taking pictures of all kinds of arthropods for YEARS, but had never come across one.
And then they started showing up right in my own yard. One, then another, and then more. Now I find them at every size - tiny to adult - and almost all through the year. Occasionally one will turn up inside the house.
Yet I still find them special. So bright and sleek! This lovely lady volunteered herself for a photoshoot, appearing right on my door. I obliged, and now you get to admire her with me.

This Amaryllis is quite different! It has several blossoms that open all at once. We didn't like it at first but it has grown on us. It certainly is bold!
It is a "named variety" called Exotic Peacock.

A visit to Butterfly World, Preston Park, Stockton. The tropical atmosphere provided a nice contrast with the nagging north-easterly outside....
I inherited a frangipani tree in my garden. Through monsoonal rain and withering drought it produces hundreds of uniform flowers squeezed together in bunches big and small, high and low. Because it is a 'traditional' variety its effusive scent wafts all over the yard. It adds layers of meaning to the term 'exotic'.
