Still in existence are two platform mounds ca AD 1500. Between 1799-1814, a fort existed here named after George Washington's secretary of state, James Pickering. When the city fell to the Union army during the Civil War, another Fort Pickering was constructed in this area. At this time, one of the platform mounds was hollowed out, and served as a munitions bunker. At one section of the area, a marine hospital was constructed and opened in 1884. Originally, the hospital consisted of six buildings: a stable, a surgeon's house, an executive building, two wards, and a nurses' building. During the 1930s, several new WPA buildings were added to the site. In order to make room for the new buildings, several building were torn down and the executive and nurses' building were saved and moved three hundred feet from their original site.
One of only two RE8s still in existence, I believe.

Halstead, who put 30-minutes on the airframe during the test flight. Then it was crated and delivered to France, conveniently on Armistice Day. The aircraft remained in its crate until its transfer to the Imperial War Museum, and it went on display at Crystal Palace during 1920. In 1974, F3556 was moved... to Duxford for its first thoroughgoing restoration, which occupied most of the latter half of the 70s, prior to permanent display [there]. The study of these achievements has highlighted the existence of similar works Sorde-Abbey, Saubrigues but also on the portal of Navarre Leyre and tends to conclude that their sculptors probably came from Spain and that 'they moved elsewhere in a world of symbols which they were familiar.
History
It is about 1160 that the canons of Premonstratensian swarm Abbey Case-God in the Gers to found the Abbey of Arthous under the authority of the abbot Bernard III. The obituary stated Martin Sancho Domezain, the noble Soule, the founder by "Fundator hujus Ecclesiae." Dedicated to Our Lady, the abbey is called St. Mary d'Arthous. It is dedicated in 1167.
Built on a vacant stretch near the Basque country, the abbey's vocation to evangelize the local people, to offer accommodation to pilgrims en route to St Jacques de Compostela and control a territory bitterly disputed by several lords: Navarre, Béarn and Gascony.
The local lords, viscounts of Soule and Béarn, and those of the King of England, make donations, including livestock and land, as the Premonstratensians are mainly farmers. This enrichment of the abbey ensures economic prosperity that allows it to meet the needs of parishes she heads. It also plays an important role in local life: it relies in particular on its lands in 1289 the walled town of Hastingues by a paréage signed between the Abbot of Arthous and the Seneschal John Hastings, representing the King of England in France
In the sixteenth century, destructions are numerous because of the war against Spain and the religious wars: in 1523, they made the Orange County of Spanish; in 1571, the Huguenots. The abbey is gradually losing its influence declines, and eventually ruined.
The monastery buildings are restored and enlarged in the seventeenth the eighteenth century in the traditional style of the Landes-timbered houses. But in 1766, there are only 5 canons, prompting the bishop of Dax close to the abbey in 1791. The abbey was sold as national property. The canons are more return.
It is then used as farm: carts enter the gutted apse of the church and the convent buildings are decaying. The church fell rundown, served time barn and chai.
The site is classified as a historic monument in 1955. In 1964, Madame de Vilmorin donated it to the General Council of the Landes which began in 1966 its restoration with the help of the State, especially on the outside of the church . Part of the buildings is today hosting trainees in archeology, another part houses a documentation center and an archaeological deposit. The abbey houses since 2003 the county Heritage Centre.
Each grain of sand that falls is each second of my life that passes me by. I feel like I am wasting my valuable time obsessing and being compulsive about the stupidest things. Why does this matter so much to me? Body image, weight, BMI, muscle vs fat. Why is this important? It seems so small and insignificant compared to other things to focus on. I love photography and I want to travel the world and capture it from my perspective. Why can't I focus my mind on my goals and dreams instead of letting time slip away while my mind is stuck like a rock in a stream as the water passes and it stays in the same place.

There are many ways to define our fragile existence, many ways to give it meaning. But it is our memories that shape its purpose and give it context: the private assortment of images, fears, loves, regrets. For it is the cruel irony of life that we are destined to hold the dark with the light, the good with the evil, success with disappointment. This is what separates us, what makes us human. And in the end, we must fight to hold on to.
I got up early today so I could go and arrange finances for my trip to America. Got more dollars to travel with and put money in my bank account to pay for travel insurance (which'll cost extra because of my collapsed lung back in March) and a Greyhound bus ticket.
My new watch arrived today, something for Heroes fans! It wasn't cheap, but hey - it's only money! It is nice having a watch with a working date dial.
I called up some insuance companies to get some quotes that'll cover my preknown collapsed lung condition, even though I got the all clear. Will cost me about £180 for cover, but it's better to be safe than sorry when travelling.
Sadie got some sort of weird amnesia. She passed out and then half an hour later when she talked to me, she had forgotten alot of stuff and called me Komali, which she hadn't called me in a very long time...then she seemed to remember again. It was the weirdest, single most terrifying thing in my life. Worse than my worse nightmares....

Along with the recent discovery of a long-hidden Richfield angel, these two caryatid worshipers also came to light. The prostrate figures are male and female, holding bowls of offerings to the angels situated a few stories above them. To my knowledge, these are the only ones still in existence. I'd really like to know if any more of these Richfield caryatids survived the building's demolition in 1968.
