Mespelbrunn Castle is a late-medieval/early-Renaissance moated castle on the territory of the town of Mespelbrunn, between Frankfurt and Würzburg, built in a tributary valley of the Elsava valley, within the Spessart forest. It is a popular tourist attraction and has become a famous Spessart landmark.
The first precursor of Mespelbrunn Castle was a simple house. The owner was Hamann Echter, vizedom of Aschaffenburg, a title which means that he was the representative of the ruling prince, the Archbishop of Mainz Johann von Nassau-Wiesbaden-Idstein (de) at the castle and town of Aschaffenburg. On 1 May 1412, Johann gave the site, a forest clearing next to a pond, to Echter, a knight, who constructed a house without fortifications. It was a reward for Echter's services against the Czechs. The Echter family (de) originates from the Odenwald region. Their name presumably means "der die Acht vollstreckt", the executor of the ostracism. In the 15th century the Spessart was a wild and unexploited virgin forest, used as a hideout by bandits and Hussites, who despoiled the regions nearby. Therefore, in 1427 Hamann Echter, the son of the first owner, began to rebuild his father's house to a fortified castle with walls, towers, and a moat using the nearby lake.
In 1957, Mespelbrunn Castle was one of the locations of the German film Das Wirtshaus im Spessart (The Spessart Inn, 1958), based on the novella by Wilhelm Hauff.
The St. Nicholas Hotel is a historic hotel building located in downtown Springfield. The original building of the St. Nicholas Hotel was constructed in 1855, and no longer exists. A 6-story annex, seen here to the right of the main building, was built on the hotel in 1910, and the current 11-story main building was constructed in 1924.
The Georgian Revival-style main building was designed by the New York City architectural firm H.L. Stevens and Company. When the current main building opened, it was the second-tallest building in Springfield after the State Capitol.
During sessions of the Illinois General Assembly, the St. Nicholas Hotel became a meeting place for Illinois politicians. The hotel has hosted many notable visitors to Springfield, including U.S. Presidents Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and John F. Kennedy.
In Illinois political lore, the St. Nicholas is best known as the residence of Paul Powell during his tenure from 1965 to 1970 as Illinois Secretary of State. Within days after his death in 1970, the executor of Powell's will found $750,000 in cash stored in shoeboxes, briefcases, and strongboxes in Powell's suite. Another $50,000 was found in his office. As the money greatly exceeded Powell's salary, which was at the most $30,000 per year, a federal investigation examined Powell's behavior while in office. The investigation determined that Powell had acquired the money via illegal cash bribes and led to the imprisonment of several state contractors.
The hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, and also is a contributing building to the Central Springfield Historic District. Today this historic hotel building is now the St. Nicholas Apartments.

It is an order carried out around 1930 in the workshop of the executor Jaume Barba by the family Llaudet Soler on the occasion of the death of his son in full youth. The experts attribute the work to Joan Fontbernat, son-in-the-art of Barba and the best sculptor in the workshop. The back of the ribs is also attributed to Artemi Barba. In the foot there is an epitaph with some verses of Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer of his work "L'atlàntida":

“Moff Geller, what are your orders?” Corvus asked, turning to Moff Geller.
Geller didn’t reply.
“Moff Geller!” Corvus yelled.
“Huh?” Geller replied.
“What are your orders, sir?”
Geller stood there, blinking silently. He took a few steps forward before freezing again. Corvus turned back to the viewport, and time slowed down as he realized what he was seeing.
The Executor, it’s bridge up in flames, careened towards the Second Death Star, crumpling into an explosion as it impacted the surface. The entire bridge crew aboard the Defiant paused, witnessing the destruction of Vader’s flagship. Geller stood there, his mouth agape.
“Geller, we can’t stay here! The battle is lost!”
The Moff remained frozen, his shallow, ragged breaths echoing across the bridge.
“Damnit!”
Corvus faced the crew.
“Bring her about 180 degrees! Full power to shields and engines, get us back to kriffing Kessel!”
“Right away, Commander!”
He brought his gaze back to the viewport, as the Star Destroyer began it’s maneuvers. He pushed a commlink button on his wrist, and a moment later two Death Troopers entered the bridge and stood behind him.
“Get the Moff back to his quarters, he’s in no shape to be on the bridge.”
One of them spoke in a garbled tongue that nobody but Corvus could understand, and escorted the Moff off of the bridge.
“Prepare the jump to lightspeed, on my mark!”

I have been in Gloucester visiting my brother and clearing the family home which is an immense undertaking. Tuesday morning Peter and I went into the City for coffee, into the bank as part of my executor duties and then into the Cathedral so I could take some photos. Everyone, it seems, has their favourite cathedral and mine is most definitely Gloucester.
It was built as a Benedictine monastery, work commenced in 1089. It survived Henry VIII's abolition of monasteries as Edward II had been buried there . . . so it became a cathedral.

“Ah, shite,” Mary Quinn, sister of the deceased, whispered to her twin sister, Maggie. “The eejit went and done it. And Freddy Duh isn’t even here. If there was work in the bed, Freddy would sleep on the floor.”
“Hush, Mary. Shut up and listen to the man,” Maggie replied.
“The executor shall promptly pay any and all outstanding debts and assignments….”
The sisters and others had already quit listening to the legal boilerplate, and were eyeing the tea pot and biscuits that had been brought in and placed on a nearby table.
“I hate to admit it, but I’m glad Yuki left. I never liked having that foreign girl here. Pat Paul was better off without the woman,” Mary hissed.
Maggie put her hand on Mary’s leg. “Settle down. We said what was needed to be said. Today will be our reward.”
“Why did we have to be here so damn early in the morning?” Jimmy Joyce muttered under his breath. Seven AM? Christ almighty. He had cows to feed. Well, then again, maybe old Pat Paul would have though about that; hence the early hour.
“Ahem.” Declan O’Connor, the solicitor, tried to make eye contact with the group.
‘Now, the distribution of the estate is as follows…’’
That seemed to work, O’Connor noted. All eyes were upon him. You could hear the proverbial pin drop.
“To my lifelong fishing buddy, Jimmy Joyce, I leave my 17-foot lake boat, my Yamaha 5 horsepower engine, and all my fishing gear.“
Jimmy Joyce beamed. Pat Paul always went first class when it came to fishing. God bless ya, Jimmy thought.
“To my local parish, my church, Our Lady of Eternal Sorrows, and that lovely new priest, Father Akachukwu, recently arrived from Nigeria, I leave ten thousand Euro, to be used toward the recompense of people abused in their National School during the 1950s… the 1960s…the 1970s… the 1980s…
Father Akachukwu beamed.
Having little English, Father Akachukwu had no idea what had just been said, but he had heard his name, and knew what ten thousand Euro was.
Now we’re getting to the meat on the table, Maggie thought to herself.
“To my son, Patrick Paul Junior, who fecked off to America twenty years ago, and never sent so much as a postcard, I leave one Euro.”
Mary and Maggie gasped.
Patrick Paul Junior, who had at last returned to the auld sod for the reading of the will, spit on the rug and left the room; never, it was imagined by those in attendance, ever to be seen again.
“If I hurry, I maybe can catch the noon flight out of Shannon,” he thought to himself, as he fumbled for his mobile phone and the keys to the hire car. “The old gobshite…”
“To my sisters, Mary, and Mildred,” (who winced at hearing her given name) “Despite their constant bickering, and meddling in my affairs, I leave the remainder of my estate.”
Mary and Maggie beamed.
A month earlier, Patrick Paul Downes, knowing he was dying, had strolled into Mullaney’s in town and purchased a new suit, a couple of shirts, and a sharp looking necktie.
He’d then walked to the other side of the shop, to Mullaney’s travel agency, and had them arrange for airfare, a hotel, plus a car and driver, for a long-overdue holiday abroad. He wore the suit out of the shop, lacking a final tailoring, but suitable for his next task.
He stopped at the Bank of Ireland, whose manager knew him well, to arrange for a loan for the full market value of his property. The manager looked at Pat Paul; looked at the suit, and determined Pat Paul must of made a killing on the ponies at the local horse track. Loan approved.
Taking all the cash and life savings he’d gathered from beneath his mattress at home, he flew off to Monte Carlo a few days later. Pat Paul went to the grand casino, marched up to the first roulette table he saw, and bet it all on black. The wheel came up red.
Patrick Paul beamed.

By 1512 the shell was finished and roofed throughout its length in timber and lead. Henry VII's executors gave a further £5000 to pay for vaulting the Chapel, and by 1515 the main structure was complete. This work, and most of the glazing of the windows, was done during the reign of his son, Henry VIII, who was responsible for the screen and much of the Chapel woodwork.
John Wastell, the last and perhaps most brilliant master mason who worked on King's, took charge in 1508. He is the architect of the beautiful fan vaulting – 'the noblest stone ceiling in existence' – which was built in just three years between 1512 and 1515.

Mespelbrunn Castle is a late-medieval/early-Renaissance moated castle on the territory of the town of Mespelbrunn, between Frankfurt and Würzburg, built in a tributary valley of the Elsava valley, within the Spessart forest. It is a popular tourist attraction and has become a famous Spessart landmark.
The first precursor of Mespelbrunn Castle was a simple house. The owner was Hamann Echter, vizedom of Aschaffenburg, a title which means that he was the representative of the ruling prince, the Archbishop of Mainz Johann von Nassau-Wiesbaden-Idstein (de) at the castle and town of Aschaffenburg. On 1 May 1412, Johann gave the site, a forest clearing next to a pond, to Echter, a knight, who constructed a house without fortifications. It was a reward for Echter's services against the Czechs. The Echter family (de) originates from the Odenwald region. Their name presumably means "der die Acht vollstreckt", the executor of the ostracism. In the 15th century the Spessart was a wild and unexploited virgin forest, used as a hideout by bandits and Hussites, who despoiled the regions nearby. Therefore, in 1427 Hamann Echter, the son of the first owner, began to rebuild his father's house to a fortified castle with walls, towers, and a moat using the nearby lake.
In 1957, Mespelbrunn Castle was one of the locations of the German film Das Wirtshaus im Spessart (The Spessart Inn, 1958), based on the novella by Wilhelm Hauff.

The Grade II* Listed Penny's Almshouses and Chapel which were founded in 1720 and built by the executors of William Penny's will, off Kings Street in Lancaster, Lancashire.
Two rows of six almshouses opposite each other, with a chapel at the west end and an arched entrance gateway at the east, all in sandstone, forming a courtyard. The houses are in a single storey, each with one bay, mullioned and transomed windows, and a gable with a ball finial. The chapel has a round-headed doorway, a bellcote, and a shaped gable with a ball finial.

Baddeck - A Brief History

It is usually suggested that the name Baddeck derives from the Mi'kmaq word 'Abadak', meaning the place near the island, though another explanation is that it derives from 'Ebedeck', meaning a river running parallel to a lake. The second explanation best describes the area at the mouth of the Baddeck River, five miles from the present village, where Jonathan Jones and other Empire Loyalists began settling from about 1787.
Captain Jones' first land grant contained over 2600 acres and he appears to have prospered. Much of his wealth passed to the love child of his eldest son and the neighbor's daughter. They underwent a shotgun marriage as the son was trying to flee the area and the prospect of marriage, but married he was, flee he did - and never returned. Big Baddeck, as the river valley is called today, still contains active farms.
By 1819 the Empire Loyalists were well established in the area and the wave of Scottish immigration was beginning. It was at this time that James Duffus built a house and established a store on the island adjacent to where Baddeck now stands and obtained a land grant of 400 acres covering much of the present-day village.
In 1833, however, Duffus went to Halifax for medical reasons - and died there. The executors for the estate sent " a gay youg captain of militia", William Kidston, to attend to the affairs. This he did, eventually marrying the widow, Mrs. Duffus and becoming the owner of the whole Duffus estate after the death of James Duffus, who was the only son of the former marriage.
Kidston prospered. He helped organize the separation of Victoria County from Cape Breton County and donated land for a court house and jail. He is remembered in the in the name of a store in the middle of Baddeck, and in the name Kidston Island, formerly known as Mutton Island, Duffus Island or Duke of Kent Island where the original store of the area had stood.
When Robert Emsley arrived in March 1840 he called it Mutton Island and described the native Mi'kmaq people camped on the island and the adjacent shore making "mast hooks, oil tanks, baskets, ox yokes, axe handles, quill boxes, pretty mocassins, bows and arrows, kites, toy canoes, staves, fish barrels, and wash tubs." Elmsley "was deeply impressed with the beauty of the island. There was a snug house, a lovely garden and well, and a thick forest of birch and maple ... Kidston was a jolly fellow, and of whom I have much to say funny."
Charles J. Campbell was in charge of the store at that time and later the same year started his own store on the mainland, opposite the island, on land leased from Kidston. A few years later, in 1884, Campbell launched his first schooner, "The Highlander", "and started making money". Much of the early prosperity of Baddeck was based on ship building. Campbell went on to be the member of parliament for the area and negotiated the building of the post office and customs office which opened in 1886 with it is said, the likeness of Campbell carved in the keystone over the main entrance. This charming stone building, now known as Grosvenor Hall, still stands in 1995, though closed to the public and in desperate need of repair.
Alexander Graham Bell, that most illustrious resident of our area, came to Baddeck at about this time, having invented the telephone a few years earlier. We can be sure he used the post office and we know that he stayed at the Telegraph House up the street before he biult his home, Beinn Breagh, across the bay. It was over the ice of the bay that the Silver Dart recorded the first airplane flight in the British Empire in February 1909 and in 1919 the H.D.4 hydrofoil set a water speed record which would stand for ten years.
It sometimes seems that Bell's activities swamp any other history of Baddeck but there are many poignant tales, joys, and tragedies,some we know, most we cannot know, which are vitally part of the story of this lovely place.

I wanted to make a Star Wars based shot and i searched online for places that looked like they could come out of the films and found this car park online.
It reminds me of the bridge of a Star Destroyer when Vader looks out into space, but as we are not in space I decided to wash out the outside as the buildings were not attractive at all on the other side.
