Excelsior Geyser Crater, Midway Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, WY
Excelsior Geyser Crater, formerly known as Excelsior Geyser, is a hot spring in the Midway Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park in the United States. Excelsior was named by the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871.[4] Possibly the only known photograph of Excelsior in full eruption was taken by Frank Jay Haynes in 1888.[5]
The Excelsior Geyser pool discharges 4,000 to 4,500 gallons (15,100–17,000 l)[6] of 199 °F (93 °C).[3] of water per minute directly into the Firehole River. In the late 19th century (there was possibly some activity in 1901 too), it was an active geyser that erupted frequently. Most eruptions were about 100 feet high, but some exceeded 300 feet (91 m) and were as wide as they were high. It is believed that the powerful eruptions damaged its internal plumbing system, and it now boils as a productive hot spring most of the time.
Excelsior Geyser, formerly the largest geyser on Earth. This is now another big, steaming, simmering pool, the remnant of an explosive eruption in the nineteenth century which destroyed the geyser. The deep blue pool produces up to 4,000 gallons of water a minute, which flows down several colorful drainage channels into the Firehole River.

Approximately 100 families joined in the festivities and received free Thanksgiving bags filled with canned vegetables, sauces, tortillas, chips and gift cards to Stater Bros. and Curacao to start their Thanksgiving meal. Sponsors and volunteers representing Wells Fargo, H&R Block, Curacao, the City of Santa Ana, Anaheim Marketplace and Spanish-language radio station La Ranchera were also on hand.

This really isn't much of a geyser anymore since it hasn't erupted since 1985, but it does bubble up a lot of water as an active spring.

One useful byproduct of the shingle mill is shredded wood, formerly a ubiquitous packing material -- the foam ‘peanuts‘ of its day. Called Excelsior (after the New York State motto), it was sometimes more marketable than the wooden shingles!
