Notice the names on the spine of the PowerPoint book. The only reason the same name's not on the Excel book is that I ghosted on that one.

Lotus Excel in Hockenheim.

The Excel with the rear window cut out. The same shape was cut out of the Eclat, to make reconstruction much easier. (157)

The start of the project - how long will it take. At this stage I envisage 2 years. Here the Excel chassis has arrived back from Mike Taylors Lotusbits.com on 12 October 2005 (1)

how a scatterplot (wind direction at location X versus wind direction at location Y) can turn into modern art.

Lotus wrote the word ELITE on the car, but not EXCEL - I think the letters look great, so I designed some, and got them laser cut in 3mm stainless steel

This shot allows users to ask specific questions and search for solutions within Excel.

This shot shows how much we moved the boot lid. We cab also see the repositioned fuel filler recess, and the revised rear window shape that will be able to receive the rear window panel with the slats. (237)

The completed chassis. Now, it is time to see if the Rover V8 engine is going to fit.I think that we have made good progress. I got the bare chassis on 13 October, and now 5 months later, it is all finished. Inreality, Jim has done all the work on Saturday mornings only. (99)

The rear window moulding. Remember, this is based upon the shape of the Eclat and not the Excel window it just seems such a long time since we swapped the window over. (247)

While all the bodywork is going on, the rest of the car has not been forgotten about. On 27th April 2007 I collected from Mike Taylors yard an Excel SE complete interior.

Until I saw all the individual components, I was not aware that ther was such a big difference between the normal Excel and the SE. I am now not 100% sure as to what I want so I think that I will probably get more a normal Excel, and mix & match various parts, and as usual with fiberglass, I will have the option of finetuning various parts as the project progresses. 9th June 2006. With the rolling chasis more or less complete, it is time to see if the Eclat body will fit on the Excel chassis.

Before wetried the fit, I took the oppertunity to have a good look at the underside of the Eclat body.

As this was only the hack body, it was lifte up with a fork lift. (133)
