for a hopefully peaceful Monday!

This pose reminded me of someone examining his/her nails. I thought about putting five playing cards fanned out into the hand, but thought that detracted from the natural cuteness of the squirrel.

The Launceston Examiner newspaper is still running today, although it has changed ownership in recent years. Founded in 1842 it is one of the oldest running newspapers in Australia. This building doesn't date from 1842 however. The decoration on the brickwork indicates that it belongs to the Art Nouveau period and was opened in 1911. It was designed by local architect Alfred Harold Masters.

Yesterday while mowing the lawn I finished listening to "When Breath Becomes Air" for the second time. Nothing like bawling your eyes out while walking behind a power mower. The book is such a beautiful testament to figuring out how to live a meaningful life. Paul Kalanathi, the author, was a brilliant man and I am grateful he found meaning and drive to share his story. Start today and examine your life, where do you find meaning and purpose? No one can define your values for you, this takes work, time, and self-reflection. It's like the quote “The trouble is, you think you have time” from Jack Kornfield's Buddha's Little Instruction Book we skitter away our time mindlessly. Today I slowed down, breathed, sipped tea and enjoyed the sunlight in the crisp morning air.

Current home of the London Assembly:

"Examining decisions and actions to ensure promises to Londoners are delivered.

That is the job of the 25 London Assembly Members, who you elect at the same time as the Mayor. Eleven represent the whole capital and 14 are elected by constituencies. As the most powerful directly-elected politician in the UK, it is important the Mayor is held publicly and democratically accountable.

The Assembly has a Chair and Deputy Chair, who are each elected by Members for a one-year term in April."

The building opened in 2012 and was previously an exhibition centre for sustainable architecture, known as The Crystal. Built and opened by Siemens, it was the first building in the world to reach the highest sustainability award level (see LEED and BREEAM). It was bought by the GLA in 2019 for the docklands redevelopment project.

The building is situated next to the redeveloped Royal Victoria Dock in Canning Town.

Apologies for the multiple posts, I don't usually like to spam people's feeds but the mathematically sound will have worked out that there are not enough days left in the year for me to complete this challenge at my current posting rate of one per day..

"W agonii róż przeglądałam usta"

(Eng. I Examined My Mouth In the Agony Of Roses)

inspired by the poetry of H. Poświatowska

English translation by M. Lugowski

żeby napisać o tych różach

spieszyłam się nieskończenie

żeby nim umrą napisać

stałam przyciskając do szyby palce

patrzyłam na ich śmierć

one krwawiły

skarżyły się kolorem

i tylko

więdły

patrzyłam na ich śmierć

w agonii róż

przeglądałam usta

a gdy skurczone zgasłe

przywarły obco do siebie

odeszłam

wciskając paznokcie w palce

odeszłam

w inną śmierć

---

in order to write about these roses

I hurried infinitely

to write before they died

I stood pressing my fingers to the window

I looked on their death

they bled

complained through color

and simply

kept wilting

I looked on their death

I examined my mouth

in the agony of roses

and when shrunken snuffed out

they stuck impersonally to one another

I went away

jamming my nails into my fingers

I went away

into a different death

still life from a new body of work (which remains un-named for the moment). I can assure you that no life was harmed in the making of this photo or the previous one. My cat hunts insects and leaves their bodies on the floor for us to find in the morning. I have started to collect the corpses that are still in good shape and to use them as props in my photos. I assure you that they don't feel a thing when I prick their fragile bodies with a straight pin.
