To Londoners who were around in the 'swinging sixties', the city has changed a lot. The shops, fashion, architecture - they've all evolved. But one legend of 1960s Soho who strutted around in dapper suits when Rock 'n' Roll was pulsing from pubs is providing a vital link to that era by carrying on doing what he's always done.
George Skeggs, AKA Soho George, is still right here after 60 years. At 80 years old the great grandfather is still out and about at the local cafes and bars decked out in his signature blue/grey checked suit, Bolero style hat and bowling shoes and just about everyone who passes by stops to congratulate him on his appearance.
Halloween originated in Ireland as the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a pagan celebration marking the end of summer and harvest and the beginning of winter. Celebrated on October 31st, it was believed that the veil between the living and the dead blurred on this night, allowing spirits to roam freely. Traditions included lighting bonfires, wearing costumes to ward off spirits, and feasting. The name "Halloween" evolved from "All Hallows' Eve," the night before All Saints' Day on November 1st, and traditions were brought to America by Irish immigrants.

A mono view of Grand Prismatic Springs in the Yellowstone. It is an ethereal sight in the early morning hours, or anytime really. Grand Prismatic is most famous for it's amazing colors, and that is the way it is most commonly photographed. I wanted to see what it would look like shot in B&W, and I will say that it is just as magnificent - however it is captured....

Luxe Paris Brings Mondrian's Vision to Second Life: A Modern Take on High Fashion
In the ever-evolving world of Second Life fashion, Luxe Paris has once again proven why it remains a beacon of innovation and artistry. Their latest release, the Mondrian Dress, is more than just an outfit—it’s a statement. Inspired by Piet Mondrian’s iconic abstract art, this dress bridges the gap between the storied past of modern art and today’s haute couture.
The Fashion History Behind the Mondrian Dress
The roots of the Mondrian Dress trace back to the 1960s when Yves Saint Laurent introduced his groundbreaking "Mondrian Collection." His designs drew directly from Mondrian’s grid-based compositions of bold primary colors bordered by thick black lines. This collection was a revolutionary blend of art and fashion, showcasing how garments could transcend their functional purpose to become walking canvases of artistic expression.
Mondrian’s art, characterized by its simplicity and balance, was an ideal inspiration for Saint Laurent’s vision of modern elegance. By integrating these abstract paintings into couture, Saint Laurent didn’t just dress his models—he turned them into living embodiments of modernist art.
Luxe Paris: Revitalizing Mondrian for the Digital Era
Fast forward to today, and Luxe Paris’s rendition of the Mondrian Dress breathes new life into this classic design within the vibrant landscape of Second Life. The dress pays homage to the original with its striking grid patterns and color blocking. Yet, it reimagines the style with a contemporary twist that fits perfectly into the virtual world’s dynamic fashion scene.
The Luxe Paris Mondrian Dress is a seamless fusion of past and present. While it retains the essence of Mondrian’s minimalist aesthetics, it also incorporates modern elements like:
Dynamic Textures: The dress features intricate, high-definition textures that give the fabric a sense of depth and movement, adding realism to its virtual representation.
Flattering Silhouettes: Unlike the boxy shapes of the original 1960s design, Luxe Paris has tailored this dress to accentuate the avatar’s form, creating a sleek and sophisticated silhouette.
Styling the Mondrian Dress
This dress is a statement piece that doesn’t need much to shine. Pair it with minimalistic accessories like geometric earrings or a sleek clutch to enhance the artistic vibe. For shoes, opt for bold, single-tone heels to complement the dress’s striking colors.
In the virtual world of Second Life, where creativity knows no bounds, the Mondrian Dress by Luxe Paris stands as a tribute to both the history of fashion and the limitless possibilities of modern design. It’s a reminder that great art never fades; it evolves and adapts, finding new ways to inspire.
Final Thoughts
Luxe Paris’s Mondrian Dress is more than an outfit; it’s a celebration of artistic legacy and modern ingenuity. By bringing this iconic design to Second Life, Luxe Paris has not only honored the spirit of Mondrian and Saint Laurent but has also set a new standard for digital haute couture. So, whether you’re an art aficionado, a fashion enthusiast, or simply someone who loves to make a statement, the Mondrian Dress is a must-have for your Second Life wardrobe.
Step into the world of high fashion with Luxe Paris and wear a piece of history, reimagined for today. This dress is now exclusively available at the January Swank Renew Yourself Event:

Cambridge fence.
I spotted this railing while walking along the Backs in Cambridge.
I love rust! (... and perspective and blur too, clearly.) (Hmmm...how can you love blur clearly? :) ).
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Fence Friday :)
[Handheld in daylight.
Developed simply in Capture One, mainly to emphasise the blue in the fence paint and take down the greens a bit.
Sharpened with Unsharp Mask in Affinity. Added a gradient mask to the bottom left corner to take down the brightness. Avoided a vignette to retain people, top left.]

I never tire of the great art deco mascots of the 20s and 30s. This design evolved over the years, changing details and design elements, but it appears it was originally designed first by designer Joseph E. Corker patent granted to Packard Motor Car Co. 7/12/1927, patent #73,026, exhibited on a Rollston cabriolet at the New York City Automobile show January 1926, Packard deluxe emblem known as the Packard "Goddess of Speed.
Based on Nike, the divine charioteer of Greek mythology.
In Greek mythology, Nike was a goddess who personified victory, also known as the Winged Goddess of Victory. The Roman equivalent was Victoria. Depending upon the time of various myths, she was described as the daughter of Pallas (Titan) and Styx (Water) and the sister of Kratos (Strength), Bia (Force), and Zelus (Zeal). Nike and her siblings were close companions of Zeus, the dominant deity of the Greek pantheon. According to classical (later) myth, Styx brought them to Zeus when the god was assembling allies for the Titan War against the older deities. Nike assumed the role of the divine charioteer, a role in which she often is portrayed in Classical Greek art. Nike flew around battlefields rewarding the victors with glory and fame. Nike is seen with wings in most statues and paintings. Most other winged deities in the Greek pantheon had shed their wings by Classical times. Nike is the goddess of strength, speed, and victory. Nike was a very close acquaintance of Athena, and is thought to have stood in Athena's outstretched hand in the statue of Athena located in the Parthenon. Nike is one of the most commonly portrayed figures on Greek coins. The shoe and sports equipment company Nike, Inc. is named after the Greek goddess Nike.

I find getting an interesting image from a glass ball can be rewarding but often frustrating. I often find my finger prints and/or dust magnified on the surfaces or else after careful placement, the ball starts to roll away knocking down my background cards and reflectors. In this image I managed to avoid finger prints but happily for me, the imperfections of the silver card have added colourful "unreal" patterns.
A mobile phone torch produced the light source and A4 silver cards produced the reflections.
Beauty before the beast.
Church of Mykonos
There are literally dozens of small churches scattered around Mykonos, all with their snow-white exteriors, and often with small colorful domes. But the most iconic of all is Panagia Paraportiani, dating back to the 1400s, found facing the sea at the entrance to Chora (the location is reflected in the name, which means “Our Lady of the Side Gate”). It’s considered a perfect example of Cycladic architecture, and is classified as a national monument. Unfortunately it’s usually closed, but the main attraction is its exterior anyway. Its asymmetrical shape is due to it actually being five tiny churches squeezed together -- four below and one above. At the center is the church of Agios Efstathios, surrounded by the churches of Agia Anastasia, Agios Anargyros (the first one to be built, in the late 1300s) and Agios Sozon, and with the Church of the Virgin Mary standing out at the top with a dome.
In its surroundings, you may bump into the island's mascot, Peter the Pelican.
