Woods Hole Group modeled the hydrodynamics of an artificial inlet in an effort to aid in the cleanup of unexploded ordnace at Tisbury Great Pond. Researchers used a RiverSurveyor to help with the efforts.

Back in the spring, our editor Daniel Kelly took a trip to Sippo Lake in Stark County, Ohio. Park managers are studying water quality after recent sediment load reduction efforts. As a part of the study, local high schools and colleges are using the lake to create place-based learning opportunities.

Improving accessibility to environmental science fieldwork using a portable communications network

This workshop has two main aims. Firstly, it demonstrates a field-based approach to teaching environmental impact assessment at a site of former metalliferous mining activity. Secondly, it utilises mobile technologies to allow participants to engage ‘remotely’ in field-based activity by receiving voice and video data via a local area network.

Since the 1950s and 1960s, UMCES scientists have been tracking the population of blue crabs and striped bass. The Chesapeake Biological Laboratory is recognized for its fundamental research on life cycles, ecology and taxonomy of Chesapeake fish and shellfish populations and pioneering work on the links between estuarine circulation and fish reproduction.

this is a commercial heating and cooling unit for a high traffic double door entrance. lessons for this include adiabatic change and how that is used for both heating and cooling and also the use of refrigerants and their environmental impact and how to handle them responsibly

Arboretum Manager Tom Kirk knows every inch of the property. Kirk has lived on the site since becoming arboretum manager in 2001.

Tetra Tech, a global environmental consulting firm, rented a water quality monitoring system from us to keep an eye on the Avalon Bay dredging project. The goal was to clear out portions of New Jersey's harbors to help with shipping and recreation. A remote data logging system helped project managers keep constant watch on water quality at the sites.
