In Kolkata with this transportation known as the "Rickshaw puller" you simply don't need oil or engine. it works with the help of person pulling it, while the customers sitting behind. Most of the people staying there prefer to use this as it is not fast but it is easier to go into a narrow Vally's and you can easily escape free from the traffic jam's. This transportation would be known as the cheapest, safest and environment friendly transportation.
At the end of the school year in May, I had wrapped teachers' gifts in newspaper. It was that time of the year to give gifts again even though the school district had come down heavily with a list of what is ok and what is not. Up to $25 is ok. A collective gift is not. So we didn't do gift cards as a class this year. I didn't have enough newspaper to wrap gifts in so I did the next best thing: I bought the black reusable grocery bags from the local Safeway and put all the teachers' gifts in there.
Santa had received special instructions and he did not gift wrap any of the gifts left under the tree. They were stacked neatly with a sticky note on top to identify the recipient of each gift. What was particularly interesting is that the kids did not care that their gifts were not wrapped. The two older kids were appreciative that Santa cared about the environment as much as they did. They were happy that their tree was pretty and that was all that mattered.
It would be great if everyone stopped to think about how much they spend on wrapping gifts - or rather how much of their hard-earned $$ they send right to the bin as soon as they buy wrapping paper and the baubles that decorate it.
There are other pretty alternatives to wrapping paper: cotton bandanas, kitchen towels, a small tablecloth...
