Designing landscapes and different environments for my stories is probably my favourite thing to do. Other than most artists I know, I first taught myself to create realistic or beautiful backgrounds, before occupying myself with character designs. When I was younger, I had very good eyesight. For no particular reason, it started to fade over the years and now I have to wear glasses in order to see in the distance. I noticed this change and therefore tried to draw and sketch as many landscapes as possible from sight before I eventually became dependent on my glasses and cameras to spot certain locations. To make my paintings look more realistic I studied the way cameras take pictures and became quite fluent in my style of capturing landscapes through thin lines and many dots.
The painting introducing this section is one I drew when I was still able to paint without glasses. I tried to capture a mythical part in the forest I passed a day before, while also adding a waterfall that I thought would fit well into the whole atmosphere.
