In our daily hurly-burly lives, we tend to overlook that right under our noses there are wondrous universes, for instance in an inconspicuous half-frozen puddle, that are home to strange and alien beings. They are only visible for photographers with a macro lens. And they only reveal themselves to an audience with an open mind and a rich imagination.
This series won the 3rd place in the 6th Fine Art Photography Award (abstract category).

Des del punt de vista cultural, la història de Sa Trapa comença l’any 1810, quan una comunitat de monjos trapencs, que fugint de la Revolució francesa, arribaren a Mallorca l'any 1810 i, durant uns 14 anys, ocuparen la zona abans coneguda com a Vall de Sant Josep, que des d’aleshores es coneix com Sa Trapa. L’any 1813 una part de la comunitat va abandonar Mallorca i la resta ho va fer definitivament l’any 1820.
Des de llavors Sa Trapa ha canviat de propietari en diverses ocasions, el monestir es va transformar en cases de possessió, va sofrir diversos canvis i adaptacions als nous usos. S’hi construïren més marges i altres edificacions. Ben entrat el segle XX s’abandonà la possessió i les cases començaren a esdevenir ruïna.
L’any 1980 el GOB, preocupat per la manca d’espais públics i per una possible parcel•lació de la finca, adquirí Sa Trapa. El procés de compra va ser llarg, i adjuntà els esforços de centenars de persones, col•lectius i entitats. D’aquesta manera i mitjançant la subscripció popular, la celebració de subhastes d’obres d’art, exposicions, concerts, loteria i d’altres iniciatives, va ser possible fer front als pagaments i aconseguir la seva protecció definitiva.

Desde entonces La Trapa ha cambiado de propietario en varias ocasiones, el monasterio se transformó en casas de posesión, sufrió varios cambios y adaptaciones a los nuevos usos. Se construyeron más márgenes y otras edificaciones. Bien entrado el siglo XX se abandonó la posesión y las casas empezaron a convertirse en ruina.
El año 1980 el GOB, preocupado por la falta de espacios públicos y por una posible parcelación de la finca, adquirió La Trapa. El proceso de compra fue largo, y adjuntó los esfuerzos de cientos de personas, colectivos y entidades. De esta manera y mediante la suscripción popular, la celebración de subastas de obras de arte, exposiciones, conciertos, lotería y otras iniciativas, fue posible hacer frente a los pagos y conseguir su protección definitiva.

From the cultural point of view, the history of La Trapa begins in 1810 when a community of Trappist monks, fleeing from the French Revolution, arrived in Mallorca in 1810 and, for about 14 years, occupied the area formerly known as the Valle de San José, which since then known as La Trapa. In 1813 a part of the community left Mallorca and the rest did it definitively in 1820.
Since then La Trapa has changed its owner several times, the monastery was transformed into houses of possession, suffered several changes and adaptations to new uses. More margins and other buildings were built. Well into the 20th century, possession was abandoned and houses began to become ruined.
In 1980, the GOB, concerned about the lack of public spaces and a possible division of the farm, acquired La Trapa. The purchase process was long, and it joined the efforts of hundreds of people, groups and entities. In this way and through the popular subscription, the holding of auctions of works of art, exhibitions, concerts, lottery and other initiatives, it was possible to face the payments and get their final protection.
Quite comical getting this shot, drivers thought is was a speed trap so were slowing down until they realised it wasnt.

This is a photo of the evening light reflecting on a window winterizing plastic sheet that suggests a holographic or energy field pareidolia entity with its head turned to glance over its right shoulder.
This façade was the collective work of several artists, among them Andrea Orcagna and Taddeo Gaddi. This original façade was completed in only its lower portion and then left unfinished. It was dismantled in 1587-1588 by the Medici court architect Bernardo Buontalenti, ordered by Grand Duke Francesco I de' Medici, as it appeared totally outmoded in Renaissance times. The competition for a new façade turned into a huge corruption scandal. The façade was then left bare until the 19th century.
In 1864, a competition held to design a new façade was won by Emilio De Fabris in 1871. Work began in 1876 and was completed in 1887. This neo-gothic façade in white, green and red marble forms a harmonious entity with the cathedral, Giotto's bell tower and the Baptistery, but some think it is excessively decorated.
The whole façade is dedicated to the Mother of Christ.
The three huge bronze doors date from 1899 to 1903. They are adorned with scenes from the life of the Madonna. The mosaics in the lunettes above the doors were designed by Niccolò Barabino. They represent Charity among the founders of Florentine philanthropic institutions; Christ enthroned with Mary and John the Baptist; and Florentine artisans, merchants and humanists. The pediment above the central portal contains a half-relief by Tito Sarrocchi of Mary enthroned holding a flowered scepter. Giuseppe Cassioli sculpted the right-hand door.
On top of the façade is a series of niches with the twelve Apostles with, in the middle, the Madonna with Child. Between the rose window and the tympanum, there is a gallery with busts of great Florentine artists. (Wikipedia).

"Ad Infinitum" is a Latin phrase to say that some entity, or series, etc. goes to infinity and, as such, it has a long, honourable tradition throughout the history of mathematics (much less welcomed by physicists though). Einstein, famously, had caustic opinions about what things are infinite in our physical world ;-) However, more humbly, I restrain myself to imagine that the series of poles composing the wave breaker goes to infinity, as long as the horizon itself, in a way, is located at inifinity.
This shot is from my second sunrise session at Milano Marittima, the same as the video I posted one week ago. I hope that you enjoy it!

I have processed this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.3/-0.67/0/+0.67/+1.3 EV] by luminosity masks with the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal" exposure shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
Along the journey I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic, which improved a bit the sea and the wooden posts. Raw files processed with Darktable.

This photograph shows the same section of the frozen puddle as the previous one in my stream, but from a different angle and with a different processing. Funny how different they came out, isn't it?
