Jagged and flowing...

Finding solutions to the enigmatic forces of nature has focused the mind of man over his ages. With surfing, there is an elegant cohabitation that shows strengths in both subjects without loss of vitality.

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ THE ENIGMATIC BRONZEBACK ♥

"I can still vividly recall the first time I laid eyes on a series of head illustrations of the Bronzeback Legless Lizard . They were drawn from the type specimen by B.C. Cotton, in Waite (1929). I was ten years old and sitting quietly in the school library. I likened the large head plates and protrusive, wedge-shaped snout as bearing a striking resemblance to that of the Archaeopteryx, the earliest and most primitive bird. In line with most fanatical herps, I already had a solid grounding with Dinosaurs, my own considerable book collection now competing for shelf space with the ever-growing titles devoted to modern day reptiles. I remember day-dreaming of a time when I had my own car, and of finding an Ophidiocephalus in the desert myself...."

This passage forms part of the introduction to a feature article I did for Reptiles Australia magazine back in 2007. For those interested, you can click on the link provided to read the full article and view the full set of images pertaining to the Bronzeback and other reptiles encountered during the search. These are located at the very end of the page.

This image is of an adult male that I was fortunate to rake up around Coober Pedy a couple of months ago. The excitement of finding this lizard was on par with the first one, and it was so cool to walk among the Gidgee-lined channels on those vast gibber plains once more.

A large enigmatic owl of bogs, meadows, and coniferous forest. This rare and sought-after species is most often seen hunting around dawn and dusk, when it perches silently at the edges of clearings. Feeds mainly on voles. When vole populations crash, Great Grays can be found in large numbers south of their usual northern haunts, especially in winter. Yellow eyes and white bow-tie pattern on neck separate Great Gray from Barred. Its deep hoots are rarely heard.

Every four or five years, there is a highly-anticipated irruption of Great Gray Owls in the Ottawa area. Birders and photographers enjoy these occasions immensely. It was one of these irruptions that turned me into a birder.

Nature's enigmatic sculpture. Could be a prehistoric creature. Could be an ancient man wearing an animal skin. Nature had something in mind. We found this along a wash in Valley of Fire.

Note: I have added two new videos of 'Sculptures By The Sea', 2025, to all of the sculpture pictures that I have posted.

So this is Sculpture 67 entitled 'Enigmatic' by the Danish artist Steffie Talks. 'Enigmatic' is located along the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk, just near MacKenzies Bay.

Steffie says: "My sculpture 'Enigmatic' explores the balance between strength and vulnerability, reflecting the spectrum of human emotions and experiences. It symbolises the dualities of stability and change, the known and the unknown, and the ongoing transformation of life."

And here now is the German band 'Enigma' with the haunting song 'Sadeness, Part One'. Perfect for listening to while observing Bondi's sculptures in 2025.

Image of an enigmatic man walking the roads of Northumberland countryside, England.

It was a very early Sunday morning, and I just came off from the nearby fields myself when I saw this man walking towards me from all the way of the horizon. I found the moment of his passing quite eerie and somewhat surreal as well.

Re-imagining that moment made me push the surreal tones and colours further than usual, it just seems to match the memory of my experience better.

some enigmatic parts of that evening.

This AI thing has got me concerned about my mental stability. I'm worried that these strange images that emerge out of my imagination could be indicative of a troubled mind. Anybody know a good shrink?

Image imagined in MidJourney AI and finished with Topaz Studio 2.0 and Lightroom Classic.

That´s actually what I said when I saw the Milky Way. Having been on my yearly tour to the Glaskogen nature reservation canoeing and shooting the sunset I stayed for a while after the sunset to shoot stars and test my new Samyang. When I walked back to my car I looked up and saw this magnificent phenomena. I just stopped stared and said Hello there! It might be hard for people that are not Scandinavian to understand that from march/april until august/september the sun sets very late. During the midsummer the sun does not set at all in north part of the country and just a little earlier in my part of Sweden. Now as the summer is fading I can see the stars and I am in awe when I see can see and shoot the Milky Way again.

Emu Portrait from Australia

If one carefully looks for it, this cairn can be seen from the Hat Point Road. It's about 5 feet tall. The USFS indicates the cairn may have been constructed by ancient native Americans to mark a nearby spring. Evidently there are additional cairns in the vicinity of the springs. It is believed the cairns are very old given the age of the lichen on stones of the cairns. It would have been interesting to go look for the others if we had more time but darkness was coming and we had many miles to travel.

Perhaps the most distinctive and enigmatic of the prehistoric monuments on Dartmoor are the stone rows. There are over seventy stone rows on Dartmoor today although there were probably once considerably more. There are two double stone rows near Merrivale on the west side of Dartmoor, and the famous quarry can be seen in the distance on the right. The monuments were probably built over a long period, between about 2500 BC and 1000 BC and it is now thought they are even older than Stonehenge.

On the left is is Long Ash Leat. A leat is a man-made watercourse or stream designed to move water naturally, following the contours of the ground, to wherever it is required, whether that is a farm, a quarry, a mine or other industry. The early leats which date back to medieval times were in effect a power supply for the tin-mining industry. It is thought that the dozens of leats on Dartmoor add up to several hundred miles.

The islet Es Vedrá, located less than 2 kilometers from the coast of Ibiza, is an enigmatic rock formation 400 meters high that emerges majestically from the sea. It is a biodiversity sanctuary, and is located within a UNESCO World Heritage biosphere reserve. Murtosa, Portugal - 2025.02.08

The fire salamanders, with their fascinating and enigmatic beauty, are creatures that have always stirred the human imagination. Known for their slender bodies adorned with vibrant yellow spots, they are often associated with myths and legends surrounding their mysterious existence.

In the Middle Ages, salamanders were frequently seen as magical beings, related to fire. It was believed that, due to their ability to survive in damp and dark environments, they possessed a unique connection to the elements of nature. Some myths said they could walk through flames without burning, being viewed as creatures with the power to control fire, a symbol of power and transformation. This association with fire made them figures of protection against evil, capable of warding off disasters and diseases.

In all these myths, the fire salamander is more than just a simple creature of the fauna; it is a symbol of resilience, of beauty that persists in the shadows, of a silent strength that, many times, goes unnoticed, but carries with it an ancient power. Its presence in nature, with its vibrant colors and enigmatic behavior, reminds us of the complexity and magic that exist in every corner of the world, waiting to be uncovered.

One of the many towers of the huge enigmatic faces carved and sculpted on stone blocks, looking out in all directions.

Each face has individual features, some appear to have their eyes closed, others appear open. Each smile is different. The changing light and shadows change their perception - sometimes slowly, sometimes fast - it feels almost like the temple is moving and alive around the visitor. Common is the impression they make on everyone, once you have seen these giant faces you won’t forget.

This shot is from 2011, it was so early there were no other tourists yet, the only sounds came from the jungle around. Have you experienced Bayon so serene? What was your impression?
