This clip is dedicated to Swt Snookie, who’s encouraging post this morning got me up off my arse and into the car and into the forest today, despite a painful toothache and almost debilitating leg cramps, which have had me gimped up for a couple of days. It was a rewarding and healing experience to be in the forest once again. Thank you, Patricia!!

Bennilover encouraged me to put up an entry for the "Smile on Saturday" theme this week, which is "portray a movie". She suggested a movie with a "gun" theme, knowing I collect firearms as another hobby (in addition to photography).
The first movie that came to mind was an old American western, "Winchester '73", that came out out in 1950. The movie is black and white, and starred Jimmy Stewart and a few other famous actors (Rock Hudson and Tony Curtis among them). But the true star of the show was a Winchester Model 1873, lever-action rifle. The plot involved Stewart's character winning it in a competition, and then the adventure that ensued after the rifle was stolen.

Preening time is my favourite time when it comes to bird photography
They get themselves into all sorts of unusual 'shapes' and 'poses' and that often presents an opportunity for something a little bit 'different'
This Glossy Ibis put on a wonderful show for us., and was completely aware throughout that we were watching his every move., and that probably encouraged him to exaggerate every twist and turn just that little bit more than usual

"You can encourage Huron Sachem butterflies into your garden by allowing a small patch of lawn to go un-mowed and planting native, low-growing flowering plants. According to the Alabama Butterfly Atlas, some great native flowers that you can look for include: the milkweed species like Butterfly Milkweed; the coneflower species like Purple Coneflower; black-eyed susan cultivars; phlox flowers; mountain mint flowers; Common Buttonbush; Joe Pye weeds, which flower beautifully despite being called "weeds;" blazing star flowers; Mistflower; ironweeds, which also flower vibrantly; asters; and goldenrods." www.inaturalist.org/projects/life-in-eagles-view-communit....

"OVER THE MOON!" when this winter visiting female brambling, put in a appearance to my feeders, and stayed for five days, before heading further north, heading for woodland with areas of mature beech, where they forage for seeds on the ground, put a huge grin on my face, every
time I saw it.

With my first shot of 2025 in the bag I started to think about sunset, and I had to think fast. As I rumbled west down the dirt road, I saw the tank train glinting in the sun as it curved into Siberia...and then an eastbound Z popped around the corner! Skidding to a halt in a cloud of dust, I bailed out to bag this shot. That was it for trains until after sunset, but not a bad start to 2025. Probably the most encouraging thing is me actually going out for a local outing, something I want to start getting back into. I think my goal for 2025 is to do one local outing per season, just to make sure I'm regularly taking advantage of the opportunities in my area. We'll see if I can keep at it.
To Althea, from Prison is a poem written by Richard Lovelace in 1642. He wrote the poem while imprisoned in Gatehouse Prison to encourage the Clergy Act 1640 to be annulled.
"When love with unconfined wings
Hovers within my gates,
And my divine Althea brings
To whisper at the grates;
When I lie tangled in her hair
And fettered to her eye,
The gods that wanton in the air
Know no such liberty.
When flowing cups run swiftly round,
With no allaying Thames,
Our careless heads with roses bound,
Our hearts with loyal flames;
When thirsty grief in wine we steep,
When healths and draughts go free,
Fishes that tipple in the deep
Know no such liberty.
When like committed linnets I
With shriller throat shall sing
The sweetness, mercy, majesty,
And glories of my King:
When I shall voice aloud how good
He is, how great should be,
Enlarged winds, that curl the flood,
Know no such liberty.
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage:
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage.
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone, that soar above,
Enjoy such liberty."

CONSPICUOUS AND VOCAL winter visitors, have become more tolerant of human observers, astonishingly close views can often be obtained, best to sit fairly near, and they may move towards you slowly grazing on certain seaweeds, at the tide edge. EARLY RISER:
With my little PowerShot (no image stabilizer for low light/movement issues), I am practicing building my "nightshooter" skills. This is more difficult than anything I've done photographically with this camera so far. Lots of "deletes". I have a long way to go, but I was about to gve up on night shots with this camera; too much graininess! Finally, I'm beginning to get some results that are encouraging to me.
I really encourage you to remember this. It is one of the verses that I live by. Sometimes you may ask the question "Why me?" "Why are you doing this to me, God? It's not fair." And my reply to this question is if you are still suffering, it is not the end.
Don't think you can get past this by yourself or with someone other than God. No one is as perfect as Him.
And if you find someone as perfect as Him, ask them if they would die and stuffer for you to live. I doubt it.
So remeber, it is not the end if it's still bad. God will reveal glorious things to us in the future.
"Patience, My darling" God says, "Just wait and see the glory I will soon reveal in my perfect timing,"

The UK tree sparrow population has suffered a severe decline, estimated at 93 per cent between 1970 and 2008. However, recent Breeding Bird Survey data is encouraging, suggesting that numbers may have started to increase, albeit from a very low point.

Who doesn't know them, the lucky clovers that wander onto our windowsills on New Year's Eve. At the beginning they are still nice and round and compact. After the first 10 days at home, they start to develop longer and longer leaf stalks and no longer look very attractive. The heat and lack of light in the flat encourage them to do this. It is not uncommon for them to end up in the rubbish bin. If you keep them on your windowsill until spring, you can plant them out in the garden after the Ice Saints (early May). They need a shady, moderately moist location. They then develop into splendid plants and often begin to flower in pink-red later in the summer. In autumn, protect them from frost with a layer of leaves about 15 cm thick, so they will survive the winter well and sprout again the following spring.

JAGO: "It's alright Daisy-Maud. Go ahead!" *Encouraging.*
DAISY-MAUD: *Looks to Jago.* "Are you quite sure, Jago?"
JAGO: "Of course I am, dear Daisy-Maud."
DAISY-MAUD: "I mean, are you really, really sure, Jago? I don't want Benny to be upset, or not like me any more!" *Concerned.*
JAGO: "Trust me, Daisy-Maud. Have I ever lead you astray?"
DAISY-MAUD: "Never Jago!" *Shakes head.* "You are my big brother! You always take care of me!"
JAGO: "Then believe me. Poor Benny thinks he isn't worthy of you, and you are concerned that Benny thinks you are grander a lady bear than you are. Just tell him the truth about how you feel, and that you love him and everything will be alright."
DAISY-MAUD: "Promise, Jago?"
JAGO: "I paw promise!" *Holds up paw.*
DAISY-MAUD: "Alright dear Jago. I'll try." *Nervous.*
JAGO: "Go on, Daisy-Maud. Just be yourself."
DAISY-MAUD: "Err hullo Benny. I hear from sweet little Peter that Mummy Marion is having a fish and chip party, and that you are embarrassed and upset that you asked me to come, because you think I am such a fine lady bear that I wouldn't enjoy it after the fine time we had at The Proms." *Looks anxiously at Jago.*
JAGO: "Keep going Daisy-Maud!" *Encouraging.*
DAISY-MAUD: "Well Benny, I am here to tell you that you don't need to feel embarrassed one little bit, and I definitely don't want you to be sad at all, because..." *Looks anxiously at Jago again.*
JAGO: "You can do it, Daisy-Maud!" *Hopeful.*
DAISY-MAUD: "Because I really like you, Benny! I like you lots and lots! In fact, you make my heart go flippity flop!" *Blushes pink beneath mohair plush.* "In fact, I think you are the sweetest and loveliest gentlebear I know! No wonder my brother Jago is your best friend! Jago has very good taste, don't you Jago?" *Pauses.*
JAGO: "Keep going Daisy-Maud! This isn't about me. It's about you! You are doing so well!" *Encouraging.*
DAISY-MAUD: "I was just worried, Benny, that you were trying to impress me with grand gestures when you really don't have to. I mean, I loved going to the Night at the Proms with you... and..." *Blushes red beneath mohair plush.* "It was the most lovely and romantic evening of my little life so far and I enjoyed it so much! But.. but, well... I’m just Daisy-Maud, a sweet little bear who was born in the seaside village of Blakeney in Norfolk who likes the simple things in life, like sunsets, the seaside, playing hide and seek, reading faerie tales and lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses... oh and fish and chips and lemonade!” *Sighs.* “I don’t need you to go to a big fuss on my account, and I feel badly that you have spent all your money on little me!" *Puts paw to mouth.* "You don't need to take me to a fancy restaurant, or spend lots of money on me to make me happy, Benny! My idea of a nice dinner, is a dinner with bears I love, like you, my sweet gentlebear Benny! So fish and chips and a glass of lemonade at Mummy Marian's house with you will be wonderful, dear Benny! Maybe after we have eaten our fish and chips, we can take our lemonade into the garden and sit somewhere nice under a tree or a flowering bush like the one behind Jago and me. I love flowers you know, Benny - just pretty home grown ones from the garden." *Looks at Jago again.*
JAGO: "You are nearly there, Daisy-Maud!"
DAISY-MAUD: "Well Benny, just being with you would be romantic, and more than enough for me, because... because..." *Blushes crimson beneath mohair plush.* "Because you will be there, and that will make me so happy! You are the loveliest gentlebear ever, Benny, and I think you are so wonderful! I hope that even though I am just a little lady bear, and not a grand, sophisticated lady, that I am enough for you!"
JAGO: "Very good Daisy-Maud! You did it!"
DAISY-MAUD: "Wait Jago! I need to say one more thing to Benny!" *Holds up paw.* "Benny, I would love to join you at Mummy Marian's fish and chip party and I am looking forward to enjoying delicious hot fish and chips and drinking lemonade with you! And then maybe we can share some soft snuffly kisses and some big little bear hugs."
JAGO: "I'd like to come to the party too, dear Benny! I enjoy fish and chips! Grumbly tummy, Benny! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*
My bear Jago has made very good friends with a bear called Benny www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577200585... and his Mummy Marian Kloon (on and off) Jago and his best friend Benny are very similar. Benny recently finally plucked up the courage to ask Daisy-Maud (whom he has been admiring from afar for a long time) out to a Night at the Proms as you can see here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/53815237068/in/gallery... or in the first comment below. Benny and Daisy-Maud had a lovely and romantic evening together as you can see here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/53845547859/in/gallery... or in the first comment below. Now Daisy-Maud needs to make sure that Benny loves her, and not an incorrect image he may have of her, and even though she didn\'t realise it, Benny felt ashamed that he wasn\'t enough for her, as you can see here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/53902528147/in/datepos... or in the first comment below.
Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.
Daisy Maud is Jago's little sister and was made by the same friend in England who made him. She is made of German mohair with floral fabric cotton paw pads that match her pretty sunhat, and glass eyes. A sweet and loving little girl bear, she is happy to be reunited with her big brother, Jago, and enjoys being spoiled by her new Daddy.
This was one of six Spot-billed Pelicans seen cruising until dusk on a large lake in Kaziranga National Park, Assam, northeast India. The Spot-billed Pelican or Grey Pelican breeds in southern Asia from southern Pakistan across India east to Indonesia. It is a bird of large inland and coastal waters, especially large lakes.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments, and, so everyone is aware, I do feel fine, and am pretty happy with life in general. The thing I felt tired about was Flickr, more specifically the issue was not so much the time spent visiting and commenting, although there was a bit of that in my thinking, but how much mental anguish I was putting myself through in terms of what to post and what not to post. Images are kind of like songs to me, you know the first time you hear something it might sound great the second time perhaps not so much. Sometimes it works the other way around, you hate something at first and then grow to love it.
Anyway, I became more and more judgmental of my own stuff, and got kind of locked down, where the best thing I could do was push myself back from the table, so to speak, and take a break. I also was slightly numb from all the images I was taking and parsing through, I went a little nuts there for a little bit with how many images I was trying to work with (although I doubt that will change very much any time soon).
At the end of the day, I like Flickr, I like sharing, and I really do love seeing all the wonderful, artistic and creative posts of all my contacts and beyond.
Wishing everyone a great weekend. :-))))

Toronto Artists are turning electrical boxes into things of beauty!
Outside the Box Toronto is an art program as part of the StreetArtToronto Initiative that empowers street artists to have their work legally displayed on property in the City of Toronto.
The city of Toronto is trying to make its streets more beautiful by asking artists to think inside the box.
The city is commissioning local artists to re-imagine the dull grey traffic signal boxes that control lights at intersections and transform them into hand-painted works of art.
The Outside the Box program provides an opportunity for local artists to create works of art on traffic signal boxes across Toronto. Since 2013, over 350 boxes have been hand-painted by local artists, or wrapped featuring designs by local graphic artists, and transformed into extraordinary works of art. Artists and graphic designers applying to this program are encouraged to consider the context of the local area and the city as a whole. Art calls for hand-painted boxes, and graphic designs for wrapped boxes, are issued separately."
The artist fee paid is $650 honorarium (including HST) for each completed traffic signal box.
Thanks for visiting, I will do a series of these boxes soon.

In Loving Memory of David Lynch
Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of a true visionary, David Lynch. Through his art, he invited us into realms of mystery, beauty, and uncharted imagination. His films were not merely stories—they were dreams brought to life, with every shadow and every flicker of light carefully orchestrated to move, provoke, and inspire.
David’s brilliance transcended mediums. Whether through film, painting, music, or coffee, he infused the world with his unmistakable essence: a blend of the surreal and the profoundly human. He taught us to embrace the unknown, to find beauty in the quiet corners of existence, and to never stop asking, "What lies beneath the surface?"
With a calm, quiet demeanor that belied the depths of his creativity, he encouraged us to live fully—creatively, passionately, and with an open heart. David showed us that life is not just to be lived but to be explored, experienced, and celebrated in all its strangeness and wonder.
His influence will ripple through generations, reminding us to dream big, to create fearlessly, and to savor the mystery of life. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the worlds he created and in the countless lives he touched.
Rest well, David. Thank you for the magic, the mystery, and the inspiration to see the world in a different light. You will forever be our guide to the extraordinary.
