Encouraged by the sun and blue sky, we braved the 3°C for a ride through the countryside. Passed this little cabin that looks like an ideal spot to spend some time - on a warmer day.

This shot is taken in JPEG (NOT in RAW), thus very minimum editing made. Essentially, what you see here is what was there. It is one of my works for an Nat Geo Assignment from a Nat Geo producer. The assignment prompted me to explore area less visited by people, injecting something new in the photography community.
Disney just shut down a wonderful photography community, Nat Go Your Shot (Nat Geo YS), forcing me, a Your Shot photographer to migrate my works from Nat Geo YS to flickr and/or instgram. Your Shot is a place to be missed. Other than socially connecting people, YS inspires and encourages every photographer.

The wide angle lens is probably the most often used, but also misused, lens in landscape photography. It is a powerful lens, as long as it is used with forethought and for the right scenes. In my article I share with you useful tips for composing powerful wide angle images and I hope it encourages you to go out there and capture the beauty! Please feel free to read the article at this link. I hope you enjoy!
An encouraging fellow photographer in Quebec said the berries on my Japanese yew will look very nice in snow. Pessimistically I said they won't last through the strong winds and rain. But the temperature dropped precipitously last night and the rain turned to snow. I took this before it all melted. This is the photo on the same bunch of berries he saw. The previous shot is on a different branch.

When Costa Ricans say “pura vida,” it's a way of saying hello. For the Costa Rican people, it represents a way of life that welcomes a minimal lifestyle, celebrates good fortune, and encourages you to take things in your stride.

I’ve never participated in a “Bird Photography” tour, but while traveling in other countries I’m always on the lookout for birds. So, while our tour group was enjoying evening cocktails at a lodge in Costa Rica, I was out on the deck with one hand on my drink and the other for my camera. This male Tanager flew in for a visit and was close enough for me to snap a quick portrait without spilling my drink. It was a good day 😉

(I think this is a Hepatic Tanager. Correct me if you know the proper name.)
The Hepatic Tanager’s sweet, caroling song carries well through the open pine and pine-oak forests of its highland habitats. Named for the male’s dusky reddish upperparts (“hepatic” refers to the liver), this species’ scientific name (flava) also references the female’s yellow plumage. Hepatic Tanagers occur in much of South and Central America and barely reach the southwestern areas of the United States. In Central and South America there are 300+ species of tanagers that, despite sharing a name, are unrelated to the 4 species in the U.S. and Canada.

Wow, 100 music pictures. What started as a little bet between friends a year ago now is one of my favorite past times. And Who knew a cynical old bat like me likes so many songs? And there are still more to come, I haven't barely touched my most favorite artists. But this spot on my list was always reserved for exactly this song!
This is my all time favorite. A simple melody, direct and from the heart lyric that describe perfectly what love is for me. Thank you John Denver for making me dream and hope and keep smiling. You had the heart of a true poet and we miss you.

ABOUT THE HISTORY OF VENICE CARNIVAL:
It is said that the Carnival of Venice was started from a victory of the "Serenissima Repubblica" against the Patriarch of Aquileia, Ulrico di Treven in the year 1162. In the honor of this victory, the people started to dance and make reunions in San Marco Square. Apparently, this festival started on that period and became official in the Renaissance. In the seventeenth century, the baroque carnival was a way to save the prestigious image of Venice in the world. It was very famous during the eighteenth century. It encouraged licence and pleasure, but it was also used to protect Venetians against the anguish for present time and future. However, under the rule of the King of Austria, the festival was outlawed entirely in 1797 and the use of masks became strictly forbidden. It reappeared gradually in the nineteenth century, but only for short periods and above all for private feasts, where it became an occasion for artistic creations.
After a long absence, the Carnival returned to operate in 1979. The Italian government decided to bring back the history and culture of Venice, and sought to use the traditional Carnival as the centerpiece of its efforts. The redevelopment of the masks began as the pursuit of some Venetian college students for the tourist trade. Today, approximately 3 million visitors come to Venice every year for Carnival. One of the most important events is the contest for la maschera più bella ("the most beautiful mask") placed at the last weekend of the Carnival and juried by a panel of international costume and fashion designers.
