Joba is an enterprising young woman. A couple of years ago, she borrowed Rs 5,000 (£60) from Self Help Group set by FYF partner network PAHAL.
She bought a pig and farming inputs like manure. The manure has increased her crop yields meaning her family has more to eat. She is now producing a surplus that she sells in the local market. Joba has worked hard to pay back her first loan and now hopes to access a new loan to buy a small herd of goats.
For the past two years FYF has been working with 1,500 women like Joba, supporting them to increase their food security, gain access to proper health care and develop the confidence to make sure their voices are heard at a local and national level.
Now the BLF has awarded us a grant of £467,680 to work with 6,000 women in four districts of Jharkhand over the course of five years. The project will also reach an estimated 24,690 beneficiaries.

ORACLE TEAM USA won the 34th America’s Cup in a winner-take-all 19th race, defeating challenger Emirates Team New Zealand by 44 seconds in today’s clincher. Led by 35-year-old skipper Jimmy Spithill, ORACLE TEAM USA won by the score of 9-8.
This is the second America’s Cup win for ORACLE TEAM USA and Spithill, which won the 162-year-old trophy in Valencia, Spain, in February 2010. Then 30 years of age, Spithill became the youngest to ever skipper a Cup winning team.

September 7, 2011 -- Bringing together voices from Afghanistan, the Netherlands and the United States, “Empowering Women in Afghanistan: Stability Through Rural Development,” highlighted the state of Afghan women in rural areas, the promotion of stability through rural assistance to women, and ways in which America and Europe can work together to empower them.
The conference -- organized by the U.S. Embassy in The Hague and The Atlantic Commission -- highlighted the advantages of directing aid to programs for rural women.

The European Union co-financed SEEIWD project helped 5,000 people, including economically weak and landless families in 20 villages, to enhance their income through specific income-generation activities. The four-year project was implemented by Karl Kübel Stiftung and Peace Trust in Dindigul District
in Tamil Nadu.

The full inscription reads:
"She loved her husband, family, Mother Earth and the voiceless. She believed that the world's problems could be solved through the empowerment of women and love. She was right."
This woman died at the age of fifty-five.
Today, I'm posting a series of sixteen grave markers and tokens left near grave markers, at this cemetery in Huntingdon Valley, PA.
The corners were curled up, so I asked a couple of runners to help me out. (One of them was shy, so she hid behind the sign.) Anyway, here it is, in all its glory.

At 16 metres tall, Empowerment is the largest sculpture in Lincolnshire. Increasingly, it is used alongside more traditional images of Lincoln — the cathedral and castle — as a recognisable 'tourist emblem' of the city (similar to the adoption of the Angel of the North as a symbol of North East England).

Had coffee at 200 Degrees, near the station, and had lunch at Elite on the Bail, Bailgate (near the Cathedral). The timber-framed building on top of the ancient bridge is Stokes High Bridge Café.

May 23, 2013 - Scenes from the Empower Campaign launch party marking the start of the University's $1 billion comprehensive campaign on Thursday night at an event held in the Marino Center that featured inter?ac?give research exhibits and inspiring calls to sup?port the university’s momentum.
"Empowerment" is a sculpture by the artist Stephen Broadbent. It spans the River Witham in front of the Waterside Shopping Centre in Lincoln. The sculpture is reminiscent of the shape of turbine blades: a part of Lincoln's industrial heritage.
