Strong people of the best country in the world!

I want to begin this address with words of congratulations. On my own behalf and on your behalf, on behalf of all our citizens of Ukraine to the employees of the Security Service of Ukraine. Today is their day.

30 years ago, on March 25, the Security Service of our state was founded.

The Service has come a long way. And we all know that. But we also know that during the eight years of the war in Donbas and during the 30 days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many members of the Security Service have shown themselves from the best - heroic - side.

They have shown themselves principled, courageous and able to inflict losses on the enemy that the enemy does not expect. This is exactly what Ukraine needs now.

I am grateful to all our heroes from the Security Service of Ukraine. I am grateful to everyone in the Service who during 30 years of our common history broke the plans of enemies and worked in the interests of the Ukrainian people only.

Congratulations on the holiday! Respect to everyone!

And we will always remember all the employees of the Service who died for Ukraine while performing tasks to counter Russian aggression.

During this month of hostilities, 77 employees of the Security Service were awarded state awards. Two of them were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. Both distinguished themselves in the battles near Makariv, Kyiv region. Thanks to their courageous actions, the enemy headquarters and more than 20 occupiers were destroyed.

I can't tell you the names of our heroes. This is the specifics of the service. But I can say with confidence: the memory of them will truly be eternal!

Today I signed a decree on state awards to 63 law enforcement officers of Ukraine. Seven of them were awarded posthumously.

Police, rescuers, border guards, special service officials of the State Bureau of Investigation and employees of the Court Protection Service. Thank you to everyone!

Over the past week, our heroic Armed Forces have dealt powerful blows to the enemy, significant losses. They say that the Minister of Defense of Russia has disappeared somewhere… I wonder if he personally wanted to visit Chornobaivka?

I am grateful to our defenders who showed the occupiers that the sea will not be calm for them even when there is no storm. Because there will be fire. As on those Russian ships that departed this week on the famous route from the port of Berdyansk.

I want to warn all traitors of Ukraine who sided with the enemy in Crimea years ago. You switched sides because you thought you would live better, right? Not because you want to repeat the tragic fate of your colleagues who died on those ships or somewhere else on land or at sea in Ukraine. Well, live. Stay as far away from our cities and our army as possible.

The number of Russian casualties in this war has already exceeded 16,000 killed. Among them are senior commanders. There have not been reports about killed Russian colonels-general or admirals yet. But the commander of one of the occupying armies and deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet are already there.

The Armed Forces continue to repel enemy attacks in the south of the country, in Donbas, in the Kharkiv direction and in the Kyiv region.

By restraining Russia's actions, our defenders are leading the Russian leadership to a simple and logical idea: talk is necessary. Meaningful. Urgent. Fair. For the sake of the result, not for the sake of the delay.

16,000 Russian servicemen have already died. For what? What does it give and to whom?

The conversation must be meaningful. Ukrainian sovereignty must be guaranteed. Ukraine's territorial integrity must be ensured. That is, the conditions must be fair. And the Ukrainian people will not accept others.

During the week we managed to establish 18 humanitarian corridors. A total of 37,606 people were rescued from the blocked cities.

In particular, 26,477 Mariupol residents were evacuated from Mariupol to Zaporizhzhia via the humanitarian corridor. The situation in the city remains absolutely tragic. The Russian military does not allow any humanitarian aid into the city. They only use Mariupol residents in fakes for their propagandists. Pretending to start giving something to people.

I will continue to inform the nations of other countries in great detail about such disgusting cynicism of the occupiers, about all the war crimes of Russia against the civilians of our heroic Mariupol and other cities of Ukraine. It is very important. I want to emphasize: not only politicians and government officials, but nations. Everyone on the planet needs to know what Russia is doing. So that the responsibility for crimes against the Ukrainian people becomes inevitable and as severe as possible for the Russian military.

During the week alone, I addressed the parliaments of Italy, Japan, France and Sweden. I spoke at the summits of NATO, the G7 and the leaders of the European Union.

Each of these speeches attracted maximum attention in the respective countries and in the world as a whole. The reviews show that the Ukrainian position was heard. And this is my main goal in such speeches.

You know perfectly well what a powerful system of state propaganda Russia has built. They have spent and are spending tens of billions of dollars on it. Probably no one in the world has ever spent such crazy money on lies. But they did not take into account one thing. Where the path of lies needs to be paved with money and the result is not guaranteed, the path of truth is difficult, but the path of truth paves itself. The main thing is to be honest.

Next week I will continue this important work for our interests. Interests of Ukraine. Interests of freedom and independence.

I had a conversation today with Turkish President Erdoğan. The results of the NATO summit were discussed. Of course, we also talked about the efforts that could bring peace closer to Ukraine and end this senseless Russian invasion of a foreign land.

There is important news from our government officials.

First. They have already started paying pensions for April. In particular, the Pension Fund has transferred to Oschadbank the entire amount of pensions for the Chernihiv and Luhansk regions. Tomorrow people will have money on their bank cards and Ukrposhta will deliver cash.

Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, the payment of April pensions will continue in other regions of Eastern and Central Ukraine. The other day a wave of payments will cover the entire state.

This is one of our priorities: the Ukrainian state has fulfilled and will fulfill all obligations to our citizens, to our pensioners.

Second. Under the eSupport program, more than 20 billion hryvnias have already been paid to people who have lost their jobs or the opportunity to have business. The amount of payment is 6,500 hryvnias.

Third. Officials are preparing a new support program for our IDPs from the war zones.

Regional administrations have been given a clear task to quickly allocate land for the construction of temporary housing for displaced persons. I want to emphasize once again - this is temporary housing. Once we establish peace, we will begin the immediate, large-scale reconstruction of our state. But now people need a temporary home. Their home.

And it is better to have a home in Ukraine than somewhere abroad. We pay aid, we give a job. Native people. Native country. All the details of this support program will be presented by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

And a few more words about the path of truth. About those who bring you and us true information about everything that is happening in our country.

I would like to express special gratitude to our journalists today. To all those who ensure the work of the national telethon "United News", to all our media people. Correspondents, presenters, editors, media managers, cameramen, directors, video editors, make-up artists, producers - everyone without whom it is impossible to imagine television. Everyone who united and together with other defenders of our people provides Ukrainians with truthful information and, last but not least, confidence 24/7.

I am grateful to all of you! And, I'm sure, I can say this on behalf of all Ukrainians.

Glory to you all!

Glory to all our heroes!

Glory to Ukraine!

It's Rodeo time in Tucson and as we have done in years before we're parking cars in our lodge parking lot. The money we raise goes out to community projects we have like providing school supplies to South Tucson's community K-12 charter school.

www.southgateaz.org/

Next to our lodge is an empty dirt lot. In years past we've contacted the owner of the lot and asked him about using it to park cars and we would split the money taken in with him, and he's always refused. From what I understand he's one one of those guys that goes outside and yells at the clouds for passing over his lot.

This year it seems like he decided that a little cash revenue wouldn't be a bad thing so he hired Heckle and Jekyll to park some cars for him. I say "seems" because we're not sure if these guys are working for him or if they're entrepreneurs who saw an empty lot and decided to make some quick cash.

The lodge has parked cars for many years and we're well prepared. We've got signage, flaggers, chalked out parking spaces, radios, the whole works. People know that we man the lot for the entire rodeo and keep an eye on all the cars. The same can't be said for Heckle and Jekyll.

These muppets were walking out in the street, stopping cars and telling them they should park in "their" lot. If you look at my previous shot:

www.flickr.com/photos/nyalr/54348202566/in/dateposted-pub...

you'll see Engine Co. 22, the partner of Mr Pajamas. He was using that bunch of Caution tape as a flag, trying to get some attention. Needless to say it really didn't work.

They did get a couple of people to park, overflow from us since our lot was filled to the brim. Somebody (not us) call the local PD to complain about being harrassed so the PD had a nice chat with the muppets, let them know that if they didn't clear out they were going to get a free night's lodging at the GreyBar Hotel. They disappeared shortly after, never to be seen again.

We still don't know if they were employees or entrepreneurs.

I revisited the closed bridges that must have connected Mahwah, NJ with the ford plant across the Ramapo River.

UP 1111 holds on overnight display at UP's Global II facility on a very pleasant June evening. All the while, a well-timed firework show takes place in the background. There are many jokes that could be made about the irony of a locomotive like this, given Union Pacific's current bout with PSR, but never mind those. It was a fun night shooting this one.

My last night as an employee of the Wisconsin & Southern back in November of 2016 finds the 4007 and friends waiting at the depot for the Janesville crew to arrive, hop on, tie on to the train we spend the majority of the evening building for them and take off for points south. Bug things await for this guy, a drive to Homewood and a new beginning on the CN will take place in just a few days time. I enjoyed my time on the Wiz and met some great people, many of whom I still call friends some five years on. Only half a decade removed but it feels like another lifetime...

It's gone, but far from forgotten. When I'm out trackside, I love to capture heralds from fallen flags on freight cars. The Chicago & North Western has always been a favorite. So, when I saw an old C&NW Pullman Standard covered hopper on a cut of cars in Ogden, UT, I had to capture a photo of the classic logo.

My screenshooting has been a bit delayed. I decided to take the ENB I was working on and swap out NLA plugin for Climates of Tamriel. I haven't really ever made an ENB around Climates of Tamriel before so I had to basically start over again, but I like the results so far.

*Brickmaker’s dinner to celebrate opening of the Hoffmann kiln.

On Saturday night the directors of J Hallett & Son, Limited, entertained their employees at dinner at the Arcadia Cafe, to commemorate the opening of the Hoffmann kiln which has been installed at the brickworks, Torrensville. There were about 170 employees present, and the Chairman of Directors (Mr John Hill) presided. After full justice had been done to the many good things provided, the usual loyal toast was submitted by the Chairman. Mr G Stratton proposed “J Hallett & Sons Limited” and referred to the enterprise of the company in erecting such an up-to-date plant, which was probably the finest in Australia. The work of constructing the kiln had been entrusted to Mr A Whiting, of Mile End, and it was evident from the results now being obtained that the plans and specifications had been faithfully carried out. The kiln had a capacity of 380,000 bricks, and the weekly output would be 100,000 bricks. Mr Hill responded in behalf of the company, and referred to the excellent support which the proprietors were receiving from the men. In behalf of the proprietary he presented Mr Job Hallett, who was the originator of the business, with some handsome pieces of silverware. Mr Charles Willcox supported, Mr Hallett replied, and referred to the gradual growth of the enterprise from an insignificant concern to its present enormous proportions. Mr T Hallett gave 'The Employees' and spoke of the harmony which existed between the workers and the company. There were men now with the firm who had entered the employ of his father as boys, and they had never experienced any industrial trouble. He also thanked Mr J Grant, of Victoria, for supervising the construction of the kiln. The first round of burning which had been completed that day, had been a complete success. The toast was responded to by Mr Porter. Songs, recitations, and musical items were supplied by Messrs D N McPherson, H H Metters, C Bath, and Jack Cooper. [Ref: Register (Adelaide) 10-6-1912]

*Floods at Welland

At 5 o'clock on Monday morning the Torrens ran a banker at Torrensville and Welland, and, breaking out on the northern side, quickly flooded the brickyards and pugholes, subsequently involving brick-makers in extensive damage.

It is the worst flood since 1915, and it was estimated by Mr J Hallett that the loss all round would run into many thousands of pounds.

Pugholes belonging to the Welland Brick Company, J F Attiah, Hounslow's Riverside Brickworks, A E James, and J Hallett & Sons, Limited, were filled. At Hallett's a large drying shed holding a million and a half bricks was inundated, and as the earth subsided there was a continual rumbling of bricks falling over. Mr Hallett said the loss would amount to more than £3,000. The flood also filled Barry's pughole, at which place three kilns were washed out. The water then came across like a tidal wave to Hallett's, where two holes, one five acres in extent and 20 ft deep, were quickly filled. It is estimated that it will take three weeks before the water soaks away.

The flood waters have caused most loss to householders in the inundated area around New Hindmarsh, Welland South, and Torrensville. Gardens have been submerged, and those who rely on gardening products for a livelihood have lost heavily. The water got into the majority of the properties—some of the houses having a couple of feet of water in them, cellars have been flooded, and edibles damaged, labels washed off jams and sauces. A boat was requisitioned to convey several people to safety. Furniture has been spoiled, and in some cases removed from the homes. [Ref: Observer (Adelaide) 16-6-1923]

*Brickworks and Floods

In view of the decision of the Government to make immediate repairs to the break in the river bank, the directors of Messrs J Hallett & Son, Limited, have decided to commence manufacturing bricks at their Welland works at the earliest possible date. The managers report that the cleaning up after the recent flood is progressing, and they are hopeful of starting operations with one machine early next week. They anticipate having bricks ready for delivery from the Welland yard in about six weeks.

In the meanwhile, to meet the situation and to keep their men employed, they are working the machines at the Torrensville works two shifts a day. [Ref: Observer (Adelaide) 6-10-1923]

*A social was tendered on Saturday evening to Mr Job Hallett (managing director of J Hallett & Son, Limited, of Hindmarsh and Welland) on the eve of his departure for England by the ‘Mooltan’ on Thursday.

Every brick company in the metropolitan area, in addition to the Littlehampton Company, was represented.

In behalf of the gathering Sir Frank Moulden (Chairman of directors of the Metropolitan Brick Company) presented Mr Hallett with a handsome wallet.

The toast of 'Our guest' was honoured at the instance of Mr C B Bourn, who appropriately referred to Mr Hallett's sterling qualities, and also gave a brief and lucid address on 'Unanimity.'

The success of the social was in a large measure due to Mr Bourn's untiring enthusiasm.

Mr Hallett will be accompanied on his trip by Mr G Dabinett, who came to Adelaide 45 years ago with Mr Hallett, as a fellow passenger on the ship ‘John Elder’. They will both visit old haunts at Kingsbury, Somersetshire. [Ref: Register (Adelaide) 4-3-1924]

*New Brickworks

Very good progress is being made with Messrs Hallett & Co's new brickworks at Poonindie, and it is expected that bricks will be on the market in about six weeks' time.

Some little time ago Mr Harris, of Millers Lime Co, took samples of the clay over to Adelaide and had a number of bricks burnt, the result was highly satisfactory. The bricks made are hard and true to shape with very good edges, or "arrisses" as they are technically termed.

The sample bricks are on view at the showrooms of Millers Lime Co, in Waymouth Street, Adelaide, and have been favourably commented on by many leading builders and bricklayers. [Ref: West Coast Recorder (Port Lincoln) SA 24-11-1927]

*Pen Portraits of People-Founder of Brick Firm

At the age of 74 years Mr Job Hallett (managing director of J Hallett & Son Limited brickmakers) is an active worker in the business which he founded about 45 years ago. Mr Hallett was born in Somersetshire, and his only education was at a night school before he came to Australia at the aged of 24 years. As a youth he worked in brickyards in England and Wales. For several months after arrival in this State he was farming at Riverton, but later returned to the brickmaking industry, working at Hindmarsh with the late Mr T T Brown.

Mr Hallett was a young man when he laid the foundation for the present brickmaking business, which is the largest of its kind in South Australia. His first works were at the corner of Chief and Fourth streets, Brompton, in a yard previously operated by the South Australian Brick Company. As he progressed Mr Hallett acquired other yards in the district, some of the smaller ones have worked out since.

Those in existence are at Grange road, Welland, Taylor's road, Torrensville, John street, New Hindmarsh, West Thebarton road. West Thebarton, Coglin street, Brompton Park, and Poonindie, Port Lincoln.

Those works turn out many thousands of bricks a year. Mr Hallett has been managing director since the business was formed into a limited company in 1911. He watches the latest developments in the brick trade: and his one hobby is his work. Mr Hallett was a member of Hindmarsh Council for two years about 20 years ago. *Danger From Pughole Fire

The Town Clerk (Mr C E Wyett) told the Thebarton Council last night that rubbish tipped into Hallett's pughole, River Road, Torrensville. had caught fire the previous night and there was a danger of its spreading to Hallett and Son’s sheds. The fire was under control, but might smoulder for weeks.

Councillor F G Phelps asked if something could be done to prevent inflammable material being tipped into the pughole by people who visited the site at night with motor cars and motor lorries.

The Mayor (Mr A G Inkley) said that it was difficult to detect offenders. [Ref: Advertiser (Adelaide) 5-10-1939]

*Death of Mr Job Hallett

Mr Job Hallett, who died recently, was born in Somerset, England, in 1855, and came to South Australia at the age of 22.

He was employed on a farm at Riverton for a short period, but then moved to Hindmarsh, the centre of the brickmaking industry, having had experience in the work in England.

He was employed by the late Messrs Tom Sherring and T T Brown, and in 1890 started brickmaking on his own at Brompton.

In 1904 he took his son, Mr Thomas Hallett, into partnership and expanded the business, which became the limited company, J Hallett & Son Ltd which is now established at Hindmarsh, Welland and Port Lincoln.

The works are the largest of the kind in South Australia and employ 170 men.

Mr Hallett was the first to manufacture roofing tiles successfully in the State. He was a member of the Hindmarsh Corporation, a foundation member of the Masonic Lodge. Hindmarsh (King Edward VII), of which he was a trustee for a number of years.

Special Constabulary Chief Officer Mike Walmsley.

Over 100 Special Constables have been helping to make local communities in Manchester safer today, May 20, 2016, when they took part in National Give and Gain Day.

The celebration day promotes the power and potential of employee volunteering and will see thousands of people across the country spend a working day volunteering for good causes in their local community.

All of the special constables have been released by their employers for the day, to take part in a range of activities across the city with officers from Greater Manchester Police.

These included taking part in a number of warrant operations across the city as well as taking part in Automatic Number Plate Recognition activities with patrol teams.

The specials also took part in Court Enforcement Arrests, work with dog handling teams and supported a number of information events on issues such as legal highs and crime prevention.

As part of the initiative ten of the employers supporting the specials attended the events themselves, to shadow their employees as part of the Employee Supported Policing (ESP) initiative.

This gave them the chance to observe them first hand in the role of a volunteer police officer. It will also enable them to see the skills that specials constables develop in their role that can then be transferred back into their paid workplace.

Among those attending was Rory Underwood, the former England rugby international and British Lion and currently the Development Director for Alcumus Group. Alcumus is supporting Special Inspector Donn Houldsworth with two weeks additional paid leave per year to undertake special constable training.

Greater Manchester Police Special Constabulary has 230 special constables that are supported by 48 employers. Last year these employers contributed to over 16,300 volunteer hours of policing in the communities through Employer Supported Leave.

Chief Inspector Mark E Kenny said: “Give and Gain Day was a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate what an important role the Special Constabulary makes to the local community.

“It also gave local employers who support the work of special constables an excellent chance to see for themselves the work that the specials do and how their experience can benefit the jobs they have with them.”
