Just 22 hours after fertilization, this zebrafish embryo is already taking shape. By 36 hours, all of the major organs will have started to form. The zebrafish's rapid growth and see-through embryo make it ideal for scientists studying how organs develop.

Another specimen from an exhibit at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. It's a real embryo. I blurred it because I found the hand really beautiful, but it was badly wrinkled and didn't look good. I found these babies disturbing and compelling and sad.

After four years of trying to conceive, two miscarriages, one year of accupunture, and yet another year of all kinds of self administered daily fertility shots we finally had success with Invitro(IVF). This is a picture of my son at 12 cells. Not many of us can say we have a baby picture us at this little ;-) I think he is gorgeous!!

This was posted last year, but I've heard from many women that this photo has inspired them, so I thought I'd move it up in the hopes that maybe more woman might see it. Besides, this still gives me chills to see. :-)

This large area of nebulosity in Cassiopiea is often called the Embryo Nebula because of its resemblance to a human fetus. This is a blend of red, green, and blue, mixed with H-alpha. The H-alpha only shot is at www.flickr.com/photos/56584747@N00/197540669/.
