The Hume-Rowe House is an excellent example of vernacular Victorian residential architecture embodying elements of the Queen Anne style. The house features a prominent canted hipped roof, a bay window, a wraparound porch, a railing with gingerbread-style brackets, and turned wood balusters.
J.L. Hume, president of the First National Bank, purchased this property in 1897 and built the house around 1905, although it is still being determined whether the Hume family ever lived here. In 1905, Hume sold the property to Callie May Rowe, the daughter of James Cato Rowe and his wife, Mary.
James was an aide to Robert E. Lee during the Civil War and a member of a pioneer Austin family. Callie and her parents lived there until 1910, when James died. After that, Callie rented the house for several years, and Mary lived there from approximately 1916 to 1920. The house had a long series of owners before it was sold in 2006 to Aryn Sullivan, who applied for historic zoning for the property. Today, the house is a City of Austin Historic Landmark.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, the Hyde Park Historic District includes an eclectic mixture of architectural styles, from late 19th-century Queen Anne and Classical Revival homes to 20th-century bungalows and ranch houses. Additionally, many of the houses and buildings in Hyde Park have been designated City of Austin Historic Landmarks and Texas Historic Landmarks.

Between the Acts is a bronze relief representing part of the drapery and hem of a brocade theatre curtain, which appears to be billowing through the brick facade of the building from the stage inside.
The King Street Theatre, similar to most contemporary theatres, does not have a stage curtain. Nevertheless, the curtain remains a powerful symbol of the border between everyday life and the heightened experience that is the theatre. The image of a curtain embodies the anticipation, the excitement, the sense of magic and transformation that lie at the core of the theatrical experience.
Since Theatre & Company has since closed, this artwork serves as a bit of a historical document of what was once there.
My little Paddington is a very curious bear. He likes wandering around the house and looking for "something interesting" .Especially happy he is when Old Gentleman we work for allows us "To sort out things" which include opening drawers and clearing out dust of stuff. Paddington was the one who found Forgotten Bears and with his help Bears are not forgotten anymore but proudly sit next to Old Gentleman's bed.
One day Paddington looked up to Art Books and noticed Someone sitting there.
" Good morning" Paddington said politely " Are you busy there? Shall I climb to you? "
"Good morning! What a nice surprise! For years I have not seen a new face in house. What you doing there? "
"I belong to support team" answered Paddington. "I support Ilona who cares for Old Gentleman".
"Come up then! I just finished to read and decided to have a little break."
" My name is Paddington and what is yours? "
" I am a Panda Bear and I belonged to the Lady who is not around anymore. Old Gentleman put me on this shelf closer to his art books so I have always something nice to look at. "
"Panda Bear! Don't you have relatives in China?"
"In fact I was born in London and never have been to China. Sit next to me and I will tell you the story," said Panda Bear

In the spring of 1937, England’s Merrythought Toy Company began marketing a collection of panda toys. Customers went wild. The very next year “panda fever” escalated across the UK and throughout the West when Ming-Ming became the first giant panda to settle in England.
Merrythought responded by introducing a new grouping of soft toy pandas as part of its 1939 product line — including the 13” example featured here. Described in company literature as a “pram [baby buggy] toy,” this furry creature embodies all the qualities that have kept the Merryhought factories humming since 1930!
Made of quality mohair, the toy is fully jointed and retains its original black felt paw pads, stitched nose and mouth and glass eyes. The toy’s squeaker is no longer working but it’s still there. As the photos show, this little panda retains the original Merrythought tag that was used prior to World War II, along with a tag that reads Merrythought hygienic toys Made in England. REGD. DES No. 82156 — indicating that this was a registered design. The gifted designer Florence Atwood was the head of design at the time, and this may be one of her creations

The Navajo Loop Trail at Bryce Canyon National Park is one of my favorite trails in the Southwest. I have visited this trail multiple times during two trips to Bryce Canyon. In today’s photo, I focused on a rock formation that separates part of the trail that offers a wide view into the canyon, from the narrow switchback section.
During my recent winter trip, I captured a vertical panorama of this massive rock formation just before sunrise. The challenge with this formation is that it is almost always in shadow during golden hour, creating a high-contrast scene as soon as the sun rises above the horizon. While I was waiting for the morning light to illuminate the hoodoos, I noticed the softer light on this rock. Since I had never seen it illuminated in this gentle light before, I decided to take advantage of the moment and capture a couple of photos. I’m certainly glad I did!

Mykhailo Vasyliovych Nesterov (1862-1942) was only 23 years old when he appeared in the Volodymyr Cathedral in Kyiv. He was the youngest artist among the "congregants". The artist owns four iconostases of the lower and upper side-chapel (a total of 16 figures), two altar wall images, as well as "The Epiphany" in the baptistery.

The Speckled Hummingbird (Adelomyia melanogenys), photographed at La Minga Ecolodge near Cali, Colombia, embodies the dynamic beauty of the Andean cloud forests. Captured mid-flight while feeding on a vibrant magenta flower, the bird’s delicate speckled throat, muted green plumage, and subtle iridescent highlights stand out against a lush, softly blurred background. The vibrant colors of the flower and the bird’s fluttering wings create a striking balance between motion and tranquility, emphasizing the intricate beauty of this species in its natural habitat.
To capture this fleeting moment, I used the Canon R5 paired with the RF 100-500mm lens at 500mm. A shutter speed of 1/750 second allowed me to freeze the bird’s swift movements while still capturing the natural flow of its wingbeats. ISO 800 balanced the diffused forest light, ensuring clarity and preserving the rich details of the scene. Positioning and timing were crucial in showcasing the hummingbird’s grace while maintaining a composition that draws attention to the connection between the bird and its environment. This photograph highlights the challenge and reward of capturing such delicate creatures in their natural settings.

“The sculpture will be of three birds, all strongly embodying a sense of incipient action. The birds will be a Loon, the state bird of Minnesota, a Great Blue Heron, and a Sage Grouse; important birds in the natural life of Minnesota.”
This photo was taken in 2011 when the sculpture was located on Nicolett Mall. Since then it was moved. In 2015 the City Council tried to determine the feasibility of relocating Great Blue Heron, Loon and Sage Grouse Fountain to a location in North Mississippi Regional Park. Does anyone know where it is now?

«Speculating on the Blue is a site specific installation conceived by Flaka Haliti for the Kosovo Pavilion at the Biennale Arte. With this work she addresses the topos of borders that are not only part of her personal history but also our everyday global reality. The artist specifically examines the features of the borderland, often deserted and seemingly decaying within a short period of time. Barriers are manmade manifestations of political decisions made about territories, which are often drawn with little regard for natural and ethnical boundaries. Haliti aims at de-militarizing and de-familiarizing the aesthetic regime that is embodied by physical borders through the creation of a counter image. In doing so she transforms the former into a sign of optimism. Her approach is one of recontextualizing global politics through disconnection from its regime of appearance. The metaphor of the horizon, simultaneously emblem of possibility and enigma of our limitations is woven into the fabric of our past and present.
By drawing on the universal meaning of this metaphor, the artist removes the image economy of the horizon from any specific spatial-temporal context and speculates on its validity as an eternal truth.»

Flamingos are large birds that are identifiable by their long necks, sticklike legs and pink or reddish feathers. Flamingos embody the saying "you are what you eat." The pink and reddish colors of a flamingo's feathers come from eating pigments found in algae and invertebrates.
There are six species of flamingo, according to the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS): greater flamingo, lesser flamingo, Chilean flamingo, Andean flamingo, James' (or puna) flamingo and American (or Caribbean) flamingo.
The smallest of all Flamingos is the Lesser, and it is also the one that there is the most of. It is estimated that about 5 million of them reside in the world. They are found mainly in Africa and Asia. They are also one of the most common types of Flamingos in captivity due to their ability to adapt well to such environments.
